A lively but peaceful crowd of about 150 gathered yesterday outside the tall white gates of the Mormon temple in University City to protest the passage of Proposition 8, which banned same-sex marriage.
The passage has been credited in part to a coalition of Mormons, Roman Catholics and evangelical Christians that poured tens of millions of dollars into the campaign.

'Isi Mataele, 33, a schoolteacher and member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, was there to clean up any trash left behind. There wasn't much, if any, and Mataele talked with protesters.
Police watched as about 30 protesters gathered around Mataele, a few raising their voices as they bombarded him with questions.
One man asked why the Mormon church promoted discrimination and spent millions in support of a measure that denied him his right to marry.
Mataele remained calm as he answered, saying it was that man's choice to want to marry another man.
“You have the same rights – you can marry who I can marry,” Mataele said.

A whole 150 people... I have seen conservative gatherings outnumber this by 1,000’s and never get any coverage. News media bias...
Why is it that the Mormon church cannot give funds to defeat a ballot proposition, but Evangelical Lutheran Church can give funds to support same proposition?

It’s simple, they can UNDERSTAND prop 8. They THINK they understand Obama and his plans and so voted for him, they do not.
Last Sat. over 8,000 gays marched in San Diego.
We don’t march and threaten Catholics and Mormons.

I wish churches would stay out of politics, period. I think it's just as unseemly for the Mormon church to be putting dollars into the gay marriage fight as it is for Jeremiah Wright to use his pulpit to agitate for Barack Obama.
And I've always hated how the left talks about separation of church and state, but gladly invites Democrat candidates to come and campaign er, speak at black churches. What a sham.
Keep politics out of religion and religion out of politics. Pretty simple.

Religion is a personal thing. Political policy affects everyone.
When you look at how many religious denominations there are (i.e. competing and conflicting interests), it gets a little daunting to think that religion should become involved in politics.
The CHOICE is to act or not to act on same-gender sexual desires. Everyone has the freedom to do so, within the law.
But when you choose to marry, by definition, marriage is for the production of progeny. And two same-genders cannot, without outside help, produce progeny.
Liberals are always talking about CHOICE. Well, here’s an opportunity for them to choose and they want more. Does it ever end?
Political policy affects everyone. I agree. The homosexuals are attempting to force me to believe what they believe. I just want to be left alone. After they change the laws I won’t be able to practice my religion. It is happening in Sweden, and Canada, and they are trying to make it happen here.
Personal but not private. My worldview impacts my politics. My worldview is in turn impacted by my Christian faith. Your worldview impacts your political viewpoints too. In our democracy your worldview is every bit as legitimate as mine.
Everyone's political views are a reflection of their moral values which are a reflection of their religious beliefs.
It's the power of 'celebrity.' Generally speaking, whoever the press designates as the 'celebrity' in the race, wins. True since Jack and Jackie. This is particularly strong in CA which possesses an especially powerful celebrity culture.
I said this on another thread, but while these nuts are screaming at these churches for supporting the ban, why isn’t anyone going after the celebrities for their failure to donate? Seems to me that mega-millionaires could give quite a bit towards this cause if they really supported it.
