This is to such a great extent that the city has come to be known by some as 'Catstantinople'. While they may be pleasant to look at, the cats don't always have a saucer of food and a warm place to sleep. A kind Imam has decided to remedy this by opening up his mosque to the stray cats and kittens, so they can eat and safely rest their heads away from the perils of the outdoors. Imam Mustafa Efe calls the cats "guests" of the mosque, and they've made themselves quite at home. They sit down on the plush...

REDWOOD CITY (CBS-SF) - An eight-week-old kitten that was dyed purple and badly injured when it was dropped off at the San Jose Animal Shelter earlier this week was on the road to recovery Thursday, according to the chief veterinarian of the 9 Lives Foundation. Veterinarian Monica Rudiger told the Bay Area Newspaper Group that the wounds the kitten - nicknamed Smurf -was suffering from led her to believe it had been used as 'bait' for a large animal, possibly a dog. "I've seen a lot of animals used as bait for other animals, it looks to me like he...

This is Merlin the cat modeling the dragon haircut he got courtesy of the Main Lion Cat Grooming Salon in Bumf*ck Paoli, Pennsylvania (it's behind the Starbucks on Plank Ave). I'm not sure how much the dragon cut costs, but their lion cuts go for $65, so probably somewhere around there. That might sound expensive, but if you live in Paoli, Pennsylvania, I imagine there's literally nothing else to spend your money on except saving up to move you and your cat the hell out of there.

NORTH CATASAUQUA, Pa. -Surrounded by his pets is when North Catasauqua's Tom Newhart may be at his happiest. One cat isn't exactly doing anything to dispel the notion that cats are jerks. A woman somewhere in what appears to be Russia uploaded a video on YouTube that will have cat lovers chortling and toddler lovers squawking in outrage. The video has received over 700,000 views in two days. A friendly orange and white tabby is playfully following a toddler in a puffy snowsuit through a field of snow and at first he appears amicable enough, continually rubbing against the little girl and wanting her attention. But when the kitty decided the girl isn't paying him quite the amount...

Freepers are such good sources of information (with an ocassional goofball mixed in) that I thought I'd reach out to get a little additional advice. Recently, my daughter got a major job promotion which includes a transfer to Japan. One problem with the transfer is that they couldn't take their cat whom my son-in-law, she and our two young grandsons adore. So we offered to take her for the duration of the assignment, probably about one year. She is a wonderful cat, sweet with the boys (doesn't bite or scratch when they get rough with her, just walks away and hides...

The new viral craze is apparently scaring cats with cucumbers, because the Internet is a weird place and humans enjoy low-grade animal cruelty as long as it's adorable. But National Geographic reports that we should all maybe not be scaring our cats with cucumbers. According to Upvoted, the first cat-scared-by-cucumber video appears to have been uploaded in May and went viral by July or so. Countless others followed, to the point where Reddit has an entire Cucumbers Scaring Cats community. The idea behind these videos is that if you put a cucumber behind a cat, it'll freak out when it...

Cats have long been notorious for their picky eating habits, but a new study now suggests that humans shouldn't be too quick to dismiss a cat's selective behaviour as finicky. The study from the Monell Chemical Senses Center in Philadelphia found that pickiness may not be the cause of feline food aversions. Instead, the presence of bitter tastes may raise cautionary flags to these carnivores.
