It might work quite well unless you live in a rural area.
I don’t want prey (coyotes and the like) to notice my cat so no reflective collar for her.
To: Slings and Arrows
Seems like a good idea. Not to the cat, who will do everything on earth to get the collar off.

I suspect that scent would be the bigger issue.

I had a cat named Houdini.......there was no collar he could get out of.....usually in the first five minutes. He was amazing in that regard. Shoulda spent a little more time looking for cars, if you get my drift.

We adopted two young males at the end of July from our local Humane Society. Within 48 hours one had clawed through a screen & disappeared. We thought he was gone forever. But he had a collar on (& he was chipped) & three months later some folks about 2 miles away decided to check on this poor little kitty begging for food. He’s home now, & after some training he’s able to go outside & find his way back. He’s still inclined to go walk-about, though.

Thank you for the ping.
Two of our cats have microchips, and the other two do not.
However, none of the four are allowed outside, and never will be.
They have no fleas or other parasites, and they’re quite healthy.
We never let them near an open-to-the-outside door, but they are
able to get some fresh air when we open the door to the deck, which
has a screen door, so they can’t get out onto the deck either.

Our latest cat is the same. We’ve tried at odd whiles for about 11 years to get a collar on him. Some of them are with Amelia Earhart... wherever she may be.

I followed links to the details of their Exploding Kittens game. That & some of the pix on this thread have caused guffaws on this end of things, so thankya vera much.
Might just treat m’self to the card game. Looks fun for after holiday meals, at least until the menfolks nod off & we gals can go out for a walk. Heh

You’re very welcome.
I don’t let mine out either, but in her youth Zia was an escape artist. (These days she appreciates regular meal service.)
