Former ABC, CBS and NBC anchor Katie Couric takes on the National Rifle Association and other Second Amendment supporters in a new film entitled Under the Gun, which will debut at 8 p.m. on Sunday, May 15, on the Epix pay cable channel. Currently an anchor for Yahoo! Google News, Couric is an executive producer and narrator of the documentary, which -- according to the movie's website -- “examines the events and people who have kept the gun debate fierce and the progress slow, even as gun deaths and mass shootings continue to increase.” In case there was any inkling...

ORLANDO, Fla. — A man is claiming self-defense after another customer at a gas station pulled a gun out during an argument early Monday. The incident happened at about 12:48 a.m. between Titus Bernard, 29, and Delvin Jamar Broner, 36, the Orlando Police Department said. The altercation started as an argument between the two that was instigated by Broner, investigators said. The situation escalated and Broner, a convicted felon, pulled out a gun. Bernard, who had a valid concealed weapons permit, pulled his own gun and fired several times, killing Broner, police said. "I don't know what I would have...

A science professor’s personal feelings about firearms is leading her to consider instituting her own form of gun control -- refusing to write a letter of recommendation for a student gun enthusiast. Writing under a pseudonym, Myrtle Lynn Payne, the instructor at an unidentified western college, said she’s conflicted about whether to honor the girl’s request for a recommendation note, given the professor’s deep disdain for guns. “How can I say that I don’t want to support students who are gun enthusiasts, without getting put on some sort of list?” she wrote in The Chronicle of Higher Education on April...

In 2010, the police department in Rutledge, Tenn., was riven by scandal. The police chief, a 12-year department veteran, had been charged with assault and was under investigation by state authorities. But that wasn't what Mayor Danny Turley cited when he fired the top cop that year. Turley "had no choice," he said--his "hands were tied"--because the city could have lost its liability insurance if the chief kept his job. That would have left Rutledge responsible for paying out on future lawsuits, potentially crippling its small budget. So the insurance company got its way, and a police officer got an...

Donald Trump heads this month to the National Rifle Association’s annual convention in Kentucky riding a wave of strong support from the country’s gun owners, who say he’s just what they’re looking for in November. While pro-lifers, tax-cutters and others in the conservative coalition are struggling with Mr. Trump as the likely GOP presidential nominee, gun-rights leaders say there’s no hurdle for them. “I have not seen anything on the issue of guns that’s caused me to hesitate with him,” said Philip Van Cleave, president of the Virginia Citizens Defense League. “He seems to be the real deal on guns,”...

Hillary Clinton is not an advocate of the Second Amendment nor the Constitution as she claims. In fact, when it comes to the Second Amendment, there is no way this woman is not going to attack it and the rights it was designed to protect, and now we can easily see her six step plan to disarm the American people. She has even vowed to attack the rights of gun owners on her “very first day” in office, if elected. Awr Hawkins, writing at Breitbart, lists six of Clinton’s unlawful, tyrannical and even criminal proposals when it comes to infringing...

Oh dear foreigners – the Piers Morgans of the world, if you will – what is your sick obsession with America’s Second Amendment? Enter Canadian “celebrity” Nicole Arbour. The 30-year-old actress, choreographer, comedian, dancer, musician, singer and writer hails from Hamilton, Ontario and despite her education at Humber College, apparently still doesn’t understand that the United States is not Canada. In her ignorant, nonsensical video, she says, “It’s somewhere in the American constitution that everybody has the right to bear arms. Yes that’s in the Constitution, but no one seems to keep in mind that sh*t was written a long...

Donald Trump threw a new claim Hillary Clinton's way at a Saturday rally, telling the crowd that she wants to do away with the Second Amendment. "Hillary Clinton wants to abolish the Second Amendment. She wants to abolish it," Trump said at a Saturday rally in Lynden, Wash. "Hillary Clinton wants to take your guns away and she wants to abolish the Second Amendment. She wants to take the bullets away." "We're going to cherish the Second Amendment, we're going to take care of the Second Amendment." Clinton is in favor of universal background checks, closing loopholes on gun purchases...

Hundreds of people carrying photos of loved ones killed by gun violence marched across the Brooklyn Bridge on Saturday to rally for stricter gun laws and chanted demands for action. The fourth annual march, held on the eve of Mother’s Day, was organized by the group Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America. “We are going to stand up and fight until our last breath because if we lose our children we have nothing left to lose,” said the group’s founder, Shannon Watts. …

The proposition you can vicariously control criminal or psychopathic behaviour by confiscating private property and burying law-abiding citizens under a mountain of regulation is simply absurd. Former Australian prime minister John Howard has claimed success because there had not been another mass shooting. The reality is last year we had our first mass shooting (four or more victims in a single incident) when a man shot his wife and three children before taking his own life at Lockhart, NSW. Mental health issues were a factor and firearms had been confiscated from this house previously.

Big Tim Sullivan on right New York state, but particularly New York City, has long been a nexus of infringement of Second Amendment rights. New York had more than its share of Tories during the revolutionary war, and New York is one of only six states that has no protection for the right to keep and bear arms in its state constitution. Still, the right was routinely respected until 1911. That was when the infamous Sullivan law was passed to protect organized crime from armed citizens. The bill was created and pushed through the legislature by "Big Tim" Sullivan,...

The Oklahoma legislature has passed HB 3098, the bill to restore permitless open carry to Oklahoma. The bill passed the House 73 to 15, and the Senate 37 to 9. Unless it is stopped in conference committee, it will be sent to Governor Mary Fallin. Two years ago, in 2014,Governor Fallin, (R) Oklahoma, vetoed a number of bills in what has been described as a “tantrum” on the 29th of April. The legislature overrode one of the bills. It is unclear if Governor Fallin would veto HB 3098, which passed with veto proof majorities. I have read the bill,...

A report released this week by the Bureau of Justice Statistics says 6.5 percent of teachers in Minnesota public schools have reported being physically attacked by a student. The report adds that 11.4 percent of Minnesota public school teachers have reported being threatened by a student. This is above the national average of 10 percent. The Bureau of Justice numbers are from the 2011-2012 school year, during a 12-month reporting period. Mary Broderick is the President of the St. Cloud Education Association, she says violence against teachers is creating concern at local school districts and statewide. “We really feel it’s...

The English language is an inexhaustible gift to writers. It has the largest vocabulary of any language, with multiple word meanings that vary according to etymology and context. We even have words that can mean their own opposites, like “sanction”, “oversight”, “left”, “dust”, “stone”, “cleave”, “fast” and others. In the human resources field “resign” can refer either to leaving employment or to returning to it. In the practice of law, “continue” may have its usual meaning of carrying on or it may be a legal step which temporarily halts proceedings. For seamstresses, “trim” may mean either removing material or adding...

This biathlon rifle was designed for target competition, not to kill people. A common slogan of disarmists is "Guns are designed to kill people". There are several variations; the only purpose of guns is to kill people; guns are designed for one thing: to kill; assault weapons are designed for one purpose: to Kill as many people as quickly as possible. All are false. It is easy to demonstrate that this is true. First, what are guns designed to do? Guns are designed to project force at a distance. They do this by propelling a projectile out of the...

NEW YORK (CNNMoney) — The year 2016 is still on pace to set a record for background checks for gun purchases, according to new data from the FBI. The Federal Bureau of Investigation reported on Wednesday that there were 2,145,865 background checks in April. That’s the slowest month so far this year, but it’s a 25% increase from April 2015. Background checks in every month this year have made double digit gains over 2015, which had a record number of requests for background checks. If the current pace keeps up, 2016 will beat last year’s record.
