Voters in Longmeadow rejected three controversial gun control measures at the annual town meeting Tuesday evening.
They call for a $300 fine for anyone possessing a gun on town property, providing police with descriptions of each firearm a resident owns, and banning assault weapons.

The debate went on until after 11 PM. But in the end the articles on the Town Warrant were slapped down pretty hard.

Not to worry. The people that wanted those measures to pass will sue and find a sympathetic judge to overturn the will of the voters and implement the measures. /s (but just barely).
providing police with descriptions of each firearm a resident owns”
...this would’ve come in handy whenever there’s an armed crime because every time there is one they’ll see it wasn’t a local unless he’s a local felon.
From the article: “I think the emotional part of it makes me want to vote for it,” said Megan Piccus, an undecided voter. But I also question some of the long-term legality of it.”
Some? Liberalism in a nutshell.
Thank God. At least there’s one town in western MA that hasn’t lost it’s mind.
My Son in Law is a State Trooper. He and my daughter are living with us until he gets his next assignment.
He was muttering something about the stupid rules, and how he and the other trooper in Town are the ONLY ones in town with real assault weapons.
The whole thing was a play by an outgoing Selectman to be uber liberal going into the next phase of his political life. He is trying to be a “Boston suburb.” What he doesn’t realize is that Smith and Wesson, Savage Arms, and Colt—as well as the Springfield Armory—still have pretty deep roots here.
It was nice to see them slapped down.
This is an affluent suburb. There are lots of insurance and legal people who live in town.
While we did not change many minds on whether or not “guns are bad (read, they should be illegal)”, they DO understand how these things could be the basis of a huge legal suit.
The thought of having to get a special town meeting to fund the legal costs of these laws opened some eyes.
When you are fighting for your life, you have to use the tools that are handy and fight aggressively.
The citizens of Longmeadow have spoken ...
“Get yo hand outta my TUKKAS!!”
Oy....
So there is a $300 fine for anyone possessing a gun on town property, a $300 fine for providing police with descriptions of each firearm a resident owns, and a $300 fine for banning assault weapons?
LOL. Looks like the author did not learn much in journalism school.
The last two are pretty reasonable!
They were allowed to vote on it?
Usually the fascists just make it law, and to devil with the voters.
LOL !
liberal ignorance on what they are trying to ban and regulate can work both ways.
Some greedy lawyers should file a civil rights class action suite against the people that brought this up. It could be a RICO case for conspiracy to deny a constitutional right. It could be as big or even bigger than the tobacco case.
The left wants to take guns from non-violent citizens while leaving them in the hands of violent criminals.
You live in Longmeadow?
Yup.
