West Virginia Republican Congresswoman Shelley Moore Capito will announce Monday morning that she is running in 2014 for the U.S. Senate seat now held by Democrat Jay Rockefeller. Capito has long considered a run for the Senate, and passed on the most recent opportunity following the death of long-time Senator Robert Byrd. She's expected to say, among other things, that the timing is now right for her run. The announcement sets up a potential race between two West Virginia political heavyweights.

A Tulsa man is arrested for killing his girlfriend Wednesday evening. Tulsa Police officers booked Travis Greer into the Tulsa County jail on a complaint of first degree murder. They say Greer's girlfriend, 44-year-old Monda Taylor, showed up at a Tulsa hospital Wednesday afternoon with severe injuries, she died around 6:30 PM.

I have been a little out of the loop lately but I just seen pictures of the alleged cop killer in a rhode island courtroom. What the hell happened to his face? I am not excusing what he may or may not have done. (Yes, I know, he did kill that cop.) But this is way over the line, I could not believe what my eyes were seeing. I am disgusted by what I saw but maybe I don't have the whole story. Any Freeper insight is appreciated. And yes, I did search, look etc....I can never find anything on...

On KFAQ 1170 in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Dr. Coburn said there would be things coming out about the Terri Schiavo case that would, "shake some people up". He said he could not reveal that info. just yet. That is a direct quote from him. I just wanted to let my fellow Freepers who prayed for Terri daily to have a heads-up.

I heard on Fox & Friends this morning that new Zogby Poll would be coming out today that would have different results than those in the past about Terri. Anyone else know anything about that? Been to the Zogby webpage and no info. there that I saw.

WASHINGTON — A Senate panel heard testimony Wednesday on ways to limit congressional pork (search), but even its sponsors recognize that the resolution to cut out lawmakers' pet projects has little chance of prevailing. Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz. (search), is leading the very small pack of lawmakers interested in reducing the amount of money earmarked by legislators in appropriations bills. By some estimates, those earmarks -- generally described as last-minute, unrequested, specially designated projects -- totaled $45 billion in the 2003 budget.

Citizens Against Government Waste (CAGW) today named Senator Ted Stevens (R-Alaska) its July Porker of the Month for promising to filibuster a resolution, if it reaches the Senate floor, which would reduce pork-barrel spending. As the top porker per capita in the U.S. Congress, Sen. Stevens is staying true to form by trying to deny a vote on a reasonable budget reform measure designed to end abusive earmarks in appropriations bills. The resolution, S. Res. 173, would allow any senator to raise a point of order against appropriations earmarks.
