Grandmother and alzheimers

Alzheimers

TOPICS: Prayer
KEYWORDS: alzheimers
My grandmother needs prayers. She has alzheimers and appears to be in the middle stages of it. Finally had to put her in a nursing home but she is not doing well. They are taking her to the hospital today to try to get her medicine correct. She will stay a while at "Senior Care" for them to monitor her. Please pray for her and that we find a cure for this terrible disease.

I know what you are going through. My Aunt who just passed from breast cancer had alzheimers. Get your grandmother a good doctor who understands this disease.

There are several medications out there that can slow down the progress. My Aunt took Aricept. Also getting her outdoors and moderate exercise can help.

I will pray for your grandmother.

Thank you Vicki. It is nice to hear from someone who has gone through it. And yes, she is on the medicine you mentioned. Thanks for your prayers.

Good luck, yellowdoghunter. It's heartbreaking to watch someone you love deteriorate with Alzheimers. I went through it before there were meds that could help my loved one--and she lived on and on in the nursing home, defying all odds. You cannot do anything for your grandmother, but you can take care of yourself and of your parents and relatives, who are also going through grief, sorrow, and even fear.

I'll never forget the kindness of a social worker at the nursing home who asked how I was feeling and what I was doing to cope. I had no idea that anyone would care about that.

Thank you. This disease has made me question my faith in God, which I thought would never happen. Unless you have been through this disease, you can not understand. But it is that way with many things in life. Thanks for your encouragement and prayers.

p.s. love your tag line!!!:)

God loves all of his children, even, perhaps especially, those with sickness and disease. Alzheimers is just another illness, yhellowdoghunter. I don't think that those who have it suffer as much as their loved ones do. So I do pray that you and your family come to accept the realities of this condition and learn the lessons it presents to you.

I found it very humbling. Nothing I could do, I had no control, I didn't even have any suggestions. And sometimes when I'd visit, she didn't know me, sometimes she did. Alzheimers really is the long good-bye. With so many families going through it, there must be support groups where you can go to talk about your despair and frustration and help others going through the same thing. Really, such gruops can be amazingly beneficial.

God bless.

My mother was in a nursing home with dementia. Many of the symptoms and meds are the same. We found that it was extremely difficult to get her medicines balanced properly because some side effects would throw off the other meds.

Once they do get them balanced, your family needs to keep a close eye on her condition. Any other physical illness is likely to throw the balance off, and needs to be addressed quickly. My Mom was susceptible to bladder infections and we could tell almost immediately when she was starting one by her change in mental state. YOU need to let the nurses/doctors know as soon as you see a change and insist they test for the infection.

Prayers for you and your family
