Might want to take a look at Frank Miller Lumber, their front room section. Union, Ohio/Indiana, just north of Greenville, Ohio right on the Ohio Indiana border. I get 95 percent of my wood supplies there.

Typically lurk (at least 20 yrs) but just had to respond to your question: “One manager for every eight employees?”

Not quite as simple as 1 manager for 8. Without being snide or too disagreeable . . . allow me if I may to share this.

As noted in this case, such a plant in a typical GM environment consists of union and non-union staff. All non-union staff is not a field manager. Among the 300 listed are many fields of responsibility.

Some of the more notable would be: Plant manager, assistant plant manager, department managers, area supervisors, engineering group managers (research & development, product testing, plant/facilities, industrial, electrical, environmental), purchasing & procurement, contract negotiations, legal, etc. Then there are the staff required for billing, accounts management, receivables, and the many tasks associated within this area.

Within just the engineering group noted above would be employees responsible for plant layout, production planning, ergonomics, health & safety issues, electrical distribution, hearing protection programs, structural and property management, facility utilities managing/controlling water, compressed air, waste stream disposal (both solid & liquid), communication systems installation & support for telephones and computers, heating, A/C, lighting, sewage, roofing (both systems and loads), dust/fume exhaust systems, plant pressurization, product line design and necessary upgrades, material and product flow, warehousing, shipping/transportation/distribution, permits, environmental regulations/interpretation/compliance, air & soil monitoring, asbestos and lead remediation programs, aquifer protection, fire protection, site traffic & security, quality control & zero defect implementation methods, operations/worplace organization, time studies, tooling design, housekeeping, new equipment specification/quotation/bid analysis/selection/purchasing, installation design & drafting and manufacturing line support, lockout & tie off program/training, air pollution control, inventory management to name only a few of the many non-union undertakings.

Noting that for 20 some odd years, I was involved in easily 70% of these challenges as a facilities engineer. After which Obama involved himself in the GM bankruptcy reassigning my earned pension to the government (PBGC) while using taxpayer dollars to prop up unionized pensions which remained GM.

No, not all of the 300 non-union folks are managers (except for managing a massive work load). Loved each and every minute of it for each day presented a new challenge and opportunity. Miss it terribly.

After years of hiding among other authorized patrons the child ages, enjoys the facilities, accepts the many pleasures and delights. This poor child now determines being within Disney to be a “right”. Upon discovery, will the cries for sympathy from the child and others prevent Disney from throwing the child back over the fence?

Adding insult to injury, this illegal is now expecting the many relatives, close and distant, to be given a free pass because it is only right not to separate them from their family. And finally, is it really wrong or illegal to jump the gate at Disney in the first place if the sob story is heart wrenching enough?

The security people at Disney would be real monsters to penalize these children when it wasn’t the child’s fault they are in the park illegally. s/

Try very hard not to post but just could not control my self today.

Very disappointing. A number of issues come to mind. Is this actually constitutional? Does this fit with knowing we are broke? How does this comport with reducing the size and budget of government? Is this really the intended function of government and should the populace be taxed for such?

I know, it feels good and government is so out of control now, just a little more will not hurt or even be noticed. Besides, who wants to be accused of being sexist or conservative or anti anything?
