TORONTO, Nov 25 (Reuters) - General Motors Co is planning to close all operations at a plant near Toronto and an announcement is expected on Monday, a local TV news channel reported on Sunday
Citing multiple sources, CTV News reported that the plant closure in Oshawa in the province of Ontario was expected to affect “thousands” of high-paying jobs. GM builds sedans on one assembly line and pickup trucks on another. The plant closure is part of global restructuring, the report added.
A Canada-based GM spokesman declined comment.
GM employs about 2,500 union staff and roughly 300 salaried employees in the Oshawa area.

Could be. GM has had a plant at Oshawa since before WW2 , I believe.
Two more reasons to avoid fine GM products.

In 2015, FedGovCan wrote off $3.5 BILLION of that debt. Now, they walk away, screwing Oshawa. While I would never buy a GM vehicle, this only further reinforces my loathing of Government Motors. F’em!

As long as it’s not in the US, it’s just one more plant that should be in this country. “Nearshoring” and NAFTA were always BS. GM should be producing cars for the American market in the US and anything we need to send to Canada - whose population is less than California’s - can be made in the US and sent there. Canada’s tax structure is garbage, its politicians are corrupt and socialist and it’s quickly going the way of Europe. Let them reap what they’ve sown.

The previous Liberal governments in Ontario have left the province in such horrible shape that it will be a miracle if Dougie Ford can get it back on track. This GM hit is just the latest in a string of hits that coupled with the outrageous electrical rates brought on by the Green Energy Act (and other policies that make the province totally uncompetitive) means that Ontarians are in for a world of hurt.
