A new Republican House proposal would push federal workers off their employer-sponsored health plan and onto the insurance exchanges being established under the Affordable Care Act.
Rep. Dave Camp (R-Mich.), chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, introduced the bill Friday after talk on the Hill that Democrats were trying to exempt members of Congress and their staffs from a provision in current law that requires them to enroll in the exchanges in 2014.
Camp’s measure would extend that policy to all federal workers except active-duty military members and postal workers.
“If the Obamacare exchanges are good enough for the hardworking Americans and small businesses the law claims to help, then they should be good enough for the president, vice president, Congress and federal employees,” said Camp spokeswoman Sarah Swinehart.
Most employees who would be affected by the proposal are enrolled in the Federal Employees Health Benefits Program.
Labor groups that represent federal workers oppose the Camp proposal.
“It seems to be a political gimmick to help lawmakers undo an amendment to the Affordable Care Act that was meant to be a poison pill,” said American Federation of Government Employees President J. David Cox. “Federal employees rely on FEHBP during their working lives and in retirement, and Congress should not play around with eliminating this crucial element of federal compensation to make a political point.”

About twice a year I get something in my mailbox that I don’t throw away. Otherwise it’s complete garbage.
By eliminating the federal employees from the FEHB program USPS employees come out substantially ahead. Their jobs keep them physically fit.
The state exchange (or federal exchange) operations aren't designed to provide CHEAPER or LOWER COST insurance ~ they are designed to FORCE yout' and entrepreneurs into health insurance whether they need it or not. The insurance packages that will be available will be substantially more costly than the FEHB packages.
Guess who gets to pay the higher cost?
They voted on a bill to abolish ObamaKKKare ~ they’ve done that several times. The Senate hasn’t taken up the bill.
Yes although they know the senate won't do anything. The House has the purse strings and they consistently vote to fund obamacare. Bills that they know will do nothing don't impress me.
Why don't you figure out how we can destroy the Democrat majority in the Senate.

What one congress gives, another congress can take away.
I'm not convinced that a GOP majority in the senate would be much different. I'd rather see a conservative majority. GOP and conservative are no longer synonymous. Both parties are behaving like ruling elites and I'm fed up with it.
Make excuses for the GOP if you like. I'm not going to. This law has had a hugely negative impact on me in ways I don't feel compelled to share here. And because of the difficulty this law has made for me, I'm not inclined to excuse any elected official who claims to represent me but authorizes funding and engages in merely symbolic gestures for repeal. And--this irritates me as much as anything else--keeps silent when opportunities abound to call attention to some of the nasty things coming down the pike. These guys won't even TALK about it!

Don’t push this federal retiree, covered by the FEHBP, into Obamacare. I didn’t vote for it or for Obama so why should I have to suffer.
Went to a meeting about my insurance plan that was to be supplementary to Medicare all paid for. I retired after 40 years and they think it may be a $50 month charge after 2014!!!
My hearings were due for replacement and I selected the TOP OF THE LINE $6k + next replacement may be a plastic funnel. I have very good insurance ... for now!

The RINO GOP has been as dishonest with everybody about the constitutionality of federal Obamacare as Democrats and Obama guard Fx News have been. So I'm angry that GOP is now merely pushing mandatory Obamacare as a threat for political gain.
If the GOP doesn’t have the seats it doesn’t get the votes. now maybe one of our elderly Senators, maybe mccain, could show up with a PLO dynamite belt or something and make a difference, but short of that, not likely the Senate is going to vote with the Republicans on anything.
And, simultaneously create a 5th amendment situation ~ naw, some of us are too expensive to mess with.

GM salary employees rely on Health & Life Insurance during their working lives and in retirement, and Congress/GM should not play around with eliminating this crucial element of benefits . . .
Some people are just more special than others I guess.
