President Barack Obama repeated on Monday that he will not take executive actions to halt deportations of undocumented immigrants, saying that such unilateral action would "violate our laws." "We are a nation of laws – that’s part of our tradition."

Don't let their sweet smiles fool you; this is a fearsome foursome of trained killers. This cheery selfie shows the first group of women to complete the Marine Corps' infantry combat training, a grueling 59-day course that preps Marines for war. Fifteen women began the training at Camp Lejeune, N.C., on Sept. 24, but only Harlee (Rambo) Bradford, who snapped the pic, and her grinning crew made it through, CNN reported.

KATHLEEN SEBELIUS: In an ideal world there would have been a lot more testing. We did not have the luxury of that with a law that said it's go time on October 1st and frankly a political atmosphere where the majority party at least in the House was determined to stop this any way they possibly could including shutting down the United States government. So it was not an ideal atmosphere.

There's a big story getting passed around in military circles and beyond from The New York Post that President Obama wants the Marines to start wearing 'girly' caps... As a Marine veteran who knows how these changes actually happen, I can tell you the story is 100% B.S. The bottom line: The President doesn't involve himself in what troops happen to be wearing... "The President in no way, shape, or form directed the Marine Corps to change our uniform cover," said Capt. Maureen Krebs, a spokesperson for the Marine Corps. "We're looking for a new cover for our female Marines...

The National Park Service director will blame terrorism for having to shut down most of the National Mall during the government shutdown, saying that was the only way to protect the memorials with limited staff “in a post-9/11 world.” In testimony submitted to Congress, Director Jonathan B. Jarvis said he’s only been able to keep a dozen of the normal 300 employees charged with cleaning and caring for the capital region’s memorials during the shutdown, and without the rest of his staff he cannot guarantee the safety of the property.

I posted this last night on the thread that discussed the NBC report, but it needs to be seen by some of our talking heads who lurk on here and later report things without looking at the details... So it has it's own thread. Go to the complete poll PDF on the WSJ web page on page 16 it has the demographics of the poll. 43% of Respondents are Democrats and 32% were Republicans. 44% voted for Obama vs 35% for Romney. And 5% did not know who the voted for? That right there should instantly put this poll in...

If you really love your cat, don’t stroke it. Researchers say that the pets become stressed if they’re constantly petted. Animal behaviour experts discovered that cats released hormones linked to anxiety when they were handled by humans. In fact, the tests appeared to show that no cats enjoyed being stroked. Some were prepared to tolerate it – but they were the individuals that showed the highest levels of distress. The researchers concluded that genuine cat lovers should avoid constantly petting their feline friends to spare their feelings. -snip- The research also dispelled the popular belief that cats are solitary creatures...

It is far from clear how badly the country’s environment will be damaged by the government shutdown. But the immediate prospects are not promising. Republicans who detest the Environmental Protection Agency were not bothered in the least by the fact that the agency furloughed more than 90 percent of its 16,000-plus full and part-time employees. But people living near toxic waste sites will be bothered. Forced to perform what amounts to emergency triage, agency officials said they had no choice but to stop work on about 500 of the nation’s Superfund sites, more than 60 percent of the total, with...

As it intensifies its withdrawal from Afghanistan, the U.S. military is being forced to fly massive amounts of gear and equipment out of the country instead of using cheaper overland and sea routes, according to Pentagon officials. Military logisticians would like to send home 60 percent of their equipment and vehicles by trucking them into Pakistan and then loading them onto ships — the least expensive method by far. But cargo is flowing out on that route at only one-third the planned rate, the officials said. ... The government of Afghanistan closed the border this summer after a dispute over...

Clinton bombed an aspirin factory to cover up his scandal with Monica and Obama has so many scandals that his advisers obviously recognize that if he bombs Syria with no real purpose in mind, that he should be removed for such reckless incompetency. The jerk is such a total farce...America would be better represented in the global community by Pinocchio!

The Oscar-for-Oprah campaign starts now, with the oversimplified Hollywood tearjerker Lee Daniels’ The Butler, a film by the director of Precious that plays Hollywood’s white liberal guilt like a Stradivarius. Marching through the decades like a chocolate Gump, the title character (Forest Whitaker) is a stolid, nonpolitical White House servant (Winfrey plays his wife) in every administration from Eisenhower to Reagan. Through his eyes we witness many of the most telling chapters of the Civil Rights epic. But the movie doesn’t treat the topic with the seriousness it deserves. Here are five big conceptual errors in the movie.

The House Ethics Committee is launching a full-tilt investigation of Republican Rep. Michele Bachmann of Minnesota. The committee announced on Friday it had received a referral from the Office of Congressional Ethics, an independent investigative body, and said in a brief statement that it would formally investigate the one-time Republican presidential candidate. A lawyer for Bachmann had previously acknowledged the investigation by the OCE and said that Bachmann was cooperating. That probe is focused in part on her short-lived presidential bid.

There have been many lawsuits challenging Barack Obama’s eligibility to be President—most based on the fact that Obama is not a natural born citizen, his father being a Kenyan. Other lawsuits challenge the validity of Obama’s PDF long-form birth certificate, riddled with strange anomalies like multiple layers and eight different fonts. The lawsuits have all crashed and burned in flames for two reasons: 1. The court hearing the lawsuits have treated the cases as a joke instead of a valid question of Constitutional requirements. And 2. The plaintiffs haven’t had Reed Hayes on their side. Reed Hayes is a forensic...

Investigator who has documented White House fraud says interest surging The dispute over Barack Obama’s eligibility was headline material in his first term, as lawsuits reached as high as the U.S. Supreme Court and the president released his purported “original” birth certificate from Hawaii in an attempt to silence the doubters. But there’s been a lot of silence over the past year, with the exception of a couple of diehard, truth-seeking individuals and websites. That might change soon, according to the lead investigator for Sheriff Joe Arpaio’s Cold Case Posse in Arizona, which was assigned to do a thorough investigation...

President Barack Obama won't intervene in the Justice Department's determination of whether to file civil rights charges against George Zimmerman, White House press secretary Jay Carney said Monday. The president "has no position to express" on how the department chooses to move forward in its response to the killing of Trayvon Martin, and the decision will be made by career prosecutors and not by the White House, Carney said. "The process will be handled in the way it should be at the Department of Justice and certainly not here."

Allen West: This week we’ll celebrate the 237th anniversary of our independence. But are we a free people? SCOTUS made an ill-conceived ruling believing the choice of sexual behavior should trump the peoples’s referendum. We are free to love anyone or anything we desire in America, but that does not correlate to rights beyond the unalienable ones Jefferson articulated 237 years ago. In California we have a state-funded grant for the Los Angeles Unified School District to abuse the concept of public education by turning public schools into indoctrination factories, forcing children to spout the joys of Obamacare. Obama said...

Audible gasps, shock, outrage and support for a congressional investigation were the responses by law-enforcement officers, elected officials and attorneys to a presentation by Sheriff Joe Arpaio’s Cold Case Posse of evidence that Barack Obama’s birth certificate is fraudulent. Arpaio’s lead investigator, Mike Zullo, made a public presentation Saturday at the annual convention of the Constitutional Sheriffs and Peace Officers Association in St. Charles, Mo., then held a closed-door session for police officers, elected officials and others. “Sheriff Arpaio wants this in Congress. That’s where we intend to take it,” Zullo said in an interview with Carl Gallups of PPSimmons...
