Two New Orleans area men, including a National Rifle Association instructor, are accused of scheming to forge documents as part of applications for concealed handgun permits, according to Louisiana State Police. Annis Broussard, 54, of Slidell was booked Thursday (June 14) with conspiracy to commit forgery. Broussard was serving as an NRA Certified Instructor, but the state has revoked that certification, a state police spokeswoman said. According to state police, Broussard plotted with Derrick Jones, 47, of Waggaman, who was booked Thursday with 27 counts of forgery and conspiracy to commit forgery. An investigation into the permit applications kicked off...

The United Kingdom’s legions of miserable scolds are at it again. A mere two weeks after admonishing an English national team soccer player for a firearm tattoo, the anti-gun whiners have found a new target. This time the killjoys have deemed it their station to lecture the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge on proper parenting. The sad controversy erupted on June 10, as Kate Middleton, Prince George, and his sister Princess Charlotte watched Prince William participate in the Maserati Royal Charity Polo Trophy in Gloucestershire. During the match, four-year-old George was pictured playing in the grass with an orange-tipped toy...

Gun control advocates can now boast of a new group of allies joining their dubious coalition: witches. It kind of makes sense. We all know that gun control is based mainly on magical thinking. Its advocates, after all, ask us to believe we’re just a few more “commonsense safety measures” away from a world in which evil people who are otherwise determined to kill others refrain from doing so for fear they might violate a gun control law somewhere along the way. A related premise is that gun control advocates hold the keys to ending violent behavior once and for...

Before the Parkland shooting and Governor Rick Scott’s capitulation to the forces of civilian disarmament, Florida was affectionately known as The Gunshine State. That moniker was earned for having the most citizens with concealed carry permits in the nation…nearly 1.8 million. One side benefit of all those armed law-abiders going about their business is that it makes things more difficult for law-breakers. That’s a fact that Christopher Hill learned the hard way. Hill apparently didn’t have much of a plan for robbing a Jacksonville Walmart, but rob it he did. After jumping over a counter and grabbing a cash...

Guns and gun crime are the new climate change: those who know nothing about the subject are suddenly "experts." I call this faux expertise Albert Gore-itis, and I discuss it at length in my upcoming book, 10 Warning Signs Your Child is Becoming a Democrat. Here's a roundup of some of the new – and old – lies, myths, half-truths and conspiracy theories. It's estimated that there are 300 million legally owned firearms in the U.S., and 2 trillion rounds of legally owned ammunition. The percentage of households owning one or more firearm has fluctuated over the years and was...

From my limited research, it seems likely that Stapleton will win the Republican primary for the Governor's race, and that he'll almost certainly face Polis in November. And then Stapleton will likely lose. Polis has a 5 point edge on him in current polling, but I don't know that any of the other Republican candidates have any better chance. Incidentally, here's each candidate's position on my #1 issue, gun rights: Walker Stapleton Supports teachers voluntarily carrying concealed weapons. Supports repeal of "misguided" 2013 gun control measures limiting magazine size and requiring more background checks. Advocates increased security at schools and...

The deadline for gun owners to register their firearms as “assault weapons” or modify them to be compliant with the restrictions that resulted from SB 880 and AB 1135 (2016) must be completed by 11:59:59 P.M. on June 30, 2018. NRA opposed these bills because gun registration inevitably leads to gun confiscation. NRA is continuing the fight against recently enacted gun control laws in the Golden State by supporting ongoing litigation efforts. In the case of Villanueva v. Becerra, challenging the regulations that accompany the Assault Weapons Control Act, an order was recently issued denying the petition to invalidate CA...

TAMARAC. FLA. (WSVN) - - The Broward Teachers Union, state representatives and Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School parents and students held a joint press conference, Thursday afternoon. The union called for Florida Gov. Rick Scott to force the state pension board to stop investing teacher retirement fund contributions in three firearm manufacturing companies. “You have turned our teachers retirement fund into blood money,” said Meiling Hoshing, Marjory Stoneman Douglas student. “No teacher wants your unhealthy decisions on their soul.” One of the firearm companies receiving a bulk of the funds manufactures the AR-15 rifle, the weapon used in the Marjory...

A homeless man living in a Seattle tent allegedly attacked and strangled a tourist visiting the Space Needle with his family earlier this month. The tourist was visiting Seattle from Arizona with his family on June 2. On the way to the Space Needle, a homeless man from a nearby tent encampment allegedly began to harass the family. According to the police report, the homeless man punched one of the tourists from behind before trying to strangle him with a rope. The tourist was able to escape. But the homeless man caught up with him, running at “full force,” and...

A police department in Virginia sat on a seized German military rifle for almost a decade before moving to turn it over to a military museum. The Chesapeake Police Department seized a Sturmgewehr 44 in 2009 from a felon that could no longer possess the firearm. Seeing that it had historical significance — the StG 44 is considered by many to be the first true “assault rifle” due to its select-fire design and use of an intermediate cartridge — the agency rendered it inoperable and this week moved to have the City Council approve donating the piece to the...

Following a string of burglaries in the neighborhood, the residents of the 2800 block of La Canada Street in Las Vegas were on high alert. That’s why, when two suspicious characters were seen lurking around, the police were quickly called. The situation escalated, however, when the two men in question began prying their way into a man’s home. The home owner grabbed his gun and fired, killing one of the burglars while the second man fled (and hasn’t been found). Police are sending the case to the DA’s office, but they’re not expecting any charges to be filed against the...

On Sunday, YouTuber Callum Long-Collins announced he would be effectively shutting down the channel EnglishShooting, a YouTube channel that racked up more than 15,000 subscribers and more than 12 million views in the past four years. Long-Collins said the police had marked his YouTube channel as a "forum of extremism," and that he had to "show the police that I am a fit character to own firearms within the U.K.""I was told that due to repeated comments from other people on the videos [police] felt that the channel was a forum of extremism and it was promoting views that were...

Any time we talk about handgun cartridge comparisons, the .357 magnum vs 9mm comes up and is a good talk. These two cartridges are very popular for personal defense. However, when debates are in motion within the two school of thoughts, objectivity isn’t always clear. In this segment we'll compare the ballistics and performance of these two cartridges next to each other with an unbiased approach not on implying on one cartridge is better than the other. When it comes time for you to choose which is the better, it's all about picking the cartridge that is going to work...

A Connecticut Democrat introduced legislation Thursday designed to give all involved with so-called “smart guns” a tax credit in one form or another. The Start Advancing Firearms Enhancements and Technology Act, introduced as H.R. 6109, would up federal tax credits to cover 100 percent of the research expenses in smart gun technology and, should the firearms become commercially available, exempt smart gun components from long-standing federal excise taxes. The net effect, said the sponsor, would be to both make development less risky and guns cheaper to buy for the consumer. “If we can incentivize manufacturers to invest in smart...

Janique Walker knows the cost of a split second. Her younger brother, 17-year-old Charles Macklin, was killed while trying to steal a Jeep from a Chicago fire lieutenant on the West Side last August. The lieutenant had left the Jeep running, and Macklin jumped behind the wheel. The lieutenant ran in front of the Jeep and shouted, “Get out,” according to a police report. When Macklin began pulling away, the lieutenant drew his gun and fired through the open driver’s side window, hitting the teen in the chest. Macklin’s last words were, “Sorry, bro,” according to the police report....

(snip)The Tribune combed through police files, court records and news reports to compile its own list. The analysis shows that: Most of those shot by CCL holders have been armed robbers. Others include carjackers, a burglar with a crowbar, a robber with a gun to a clerk’s head, neighbors, an ex-girlfriend, a father-in-law, an unarmed teen stealing a Jeep, a passenger in a car during a road rage attack and a naked man acting “aggressively.” They were shot by homeowners, customers, security guards, store clerks, a Chicago police dispatcher, a Chicago fire lieutenant, a Chicago Park District worker, a tow-truck...

Image from reddit.com Governor Gregg Abbott has been a friend to Second Amendment supporters in Texas. After the tragic shooting at the Santa Fe High School, he held several meetings to come up with suggestions to improve school safety. In the Longview News-Journal, former Texas Land Commissioner Jerry Patterson writes that these firearm related measures are what Governor Abbot will send to the legislature as part of his plan. Patterson contends that none of these measures will infringe on Second Amendment rights. From Longview newsjournal.com: â– 1. Closing reporting gaps for federal background checks by creating a case management system...

The gun control bills that New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy signed this week won’t save lives. If anything, it will lead to more crime and death. The laws aim to keep firearms out of the wrong hands, expand background checks, and reduce magazine size. But at best, the new laws will harass otherwise law-abiding New Jerseyans and make it difficult for the poor to defend themselves. Take the so-called Red Flag law. This law will allow the government to take away people’s guns without even a hearing before a judge -- something that most states currently require. When people “really”...

“(In Japan) I wasn’t scanning every grocery store for its nearest exits as I shopped with my toddler son and newborn daughter, or standing on the fringes of a crowd at concerts, or wearing sneakers to the local playground solely so I could more easily grab my children and run for all of our lives if I had to. We were fully enjoying life again, and it wasn’t until the weight was gone that I realized I’d been nearly crushed beneath it. “After two years enjoying the safety and serenity of Japan, we are now on the cusp of...
