WASHINGTON — When a half-dozen Democratic donors gathered at the Whitby Hotel in Manhattan last week, the dinner began with a discussion of which presidential candidates the contributors liked. But as conversations among influential Democrats often go these days, the meeting quickly evolved into a discussion of who was not in the race — but could be lured in. a group of people standing on a stage: Senator Elizabeth Warren has faced persistent questions about her viability in the general election, and there is concern among some Democrats about her liberal politics.© Parker Michels-Boyce for The New York Times Senator...

Dream on, Joe! On today's Morning Joe, Joe Scarborough floated the fanciful notion that whereas in 2016 Trump supporters were unwilling to publicly admit that they were voting for him, now, despite polling data showing overwhelming Republican opposition to impeachment, the Trump base in fact secretly supports impeachment.,/B> Get the rest of the story and view the video here.

Posted on October 21, 2019October 21, 2019 by Msgr. Charles Pope What I Saw While Serving on a Grand Jury (part two) In yesterday’s post, I wrote about my experience serving on a grand jury, describing in particular the darkness we jurors had to face each day as we listened to testimony about and video of some horrible crimes. In today’s piece, I’d like to point out some light I saw in the midst of that darkness, some positive elements of my experience. For much of my life I have looked somewhat askance at lawyers, despite the fact that my...

On Monday, Politico Magazine pondered the unthinkable (for liberals). What if President Donald Trump actually wins re-election next year? In order to present this dystopian future, Politico's senior White House reporter Darren Samuelsohn took us on a trip to the (possibly) near future in a time machine. Although it was Samuelsohn's obvious attempt to frighten readers with the imagined Trumpian dystopia of his second term, the result was so absurd that he has provided unintentional comedy gold. So step into the Politico Time Machine and set the dial to January 2021 and let the flux capacitor power our trip to...

To twist Lenin’s quip, it will be a communist who sells capitalists the cheap advanced telecommunications technology with which China hangs them. A new and exciting movie was just released illustrating through semi-fictional dramatization how the Chinese government-controlled telecom company Huawei is a primary economic weapon in an arsenal through which Beijing seeks global domination. The names of the people and the company are all changed, but “Claws of the Red Dragon” dramatizes Canada’s arrest at U.S. request last year of Meng Wanzhou, Huawei’s financial chief and daughter of its founder, for violations of sanctions on terrorist Iran and other...

Were they REALLY dumb enough to pull this in Texas? Alright, everyone… Let’s make ’em famous! With all the excitement surrounding the idea of freedom these days, it seems a strange time to step in opposition to it. It wasn’t so long ago that a single tweet in support of the Hong Kong students threw the NBA into a firestorm of controversy, pitting their profit motive against standing with students wanting freedom. Students wanting freedom. What could possibly be more American than that, right? That’s what the group of students starting up a local chapter of YAF thought on the...

President Trump's three Republican primary challengers will debate on Saturday in Nashville, Tenn., organizers announced. The debate and conversation with former South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford (R), former Rep. Joe Walsh (R-Ill.) and former Massachusetts Gov. Bill Weld (R) will take place at 11 a.m. at the Politicon political convention, officials said. "Join Gov. Bill Weld, Gov. Mark Sanford, and Rep. Joe Walsh as they discuss 2020 and the future of the republic. Is President Trump listening?" organizers asked on the convention website. It was not immediately clear whether Trump was invited to the debate. Allies of the president including...

A federal judge on Tuesday declined to dismiss the city of Chicago’s lawsuit against former “Empire” actor Jussie Smollett. U.S. District Judge Virginia Kendall rejected a motion filed by Smollett’s attorneys, The Associated Press reported. The lawyers argued in the motion, filed last month, that Smollett should not have to pay the city $130,000 because the actor did not know how much time and money would be dedicated to investigating his allegations that he was the victim of a racist and homophobic attack. Smollett told police in January that two men attacked him and used racial and homophobic slurs as...

Fox News pundit Tucker Carlson hosted Senator Rand Paul (R., Ky.) on his show Monday night to discuss Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Lindsey Graham’s (R., S.C.) handling of the ongoing investigation into the origins of the Russia Investigation. In a segment titled “Lindsey Graham Keeps Making Empty Promises,” Carlson challenged Graham for not unearthing the facts behind the initial probe. “From the beginning, Graham promised to use his powers as [Senate Judiciary Committee] chairman — which are substantial — to get to the bottom of the Russia investigation: how did it start, as well as the bottom of other efforts...

Protesters Gather in Santiago, Chile - LATIN AMERICA1 8:58 22.10.2019 The Chilean capital has been rocked by protests for more than two weeks already since the government announced increase in public transport fares. People are taking to the streets in protest in Santiago, as the political turmoil continues in the country. Mass protests against the increase in the subway ticket prices are in full swing, despite Chilean President Sebastian Pinera having announced on 19 October that the public transport fee hikes would be suspended. The demonstrations started on 6 October and quickly grew into mass riots, in which at least...

——Why We Wrote This—— How to counter invasive species, a common, and often intractable, problem? One entrepreneur’s clever approach offers lessons in finding solutions in the unlikeliest of places. If you can’t beat them, eat them. That is the common wisdom of many scientists, conservationists, and fishermen who dream of ridding the western Atlantic of invasive lionfish, a stunning aquarium fish that, when introduced in the wild, dominates and destroys reef ecosystems. However, catching lionfish has never been simple; they are not easily targeted by line or net fishing. Now, a surprising new invention may bring lionfish hunting to the...

Full Header: Police Organizations Torch 2020 Democrat's Gun Confiscation Plan As 'Asinine, Ridiculous, and Likely Unconstitutional' Former Rep. Robert Francis O’Rourke (D-NM) (aka ‘Beto’) is the left-wing blowhard on guns that liberals fear. Why? Well, it’s because he gives up the playbook and he did so on a national stage. You all know about his plan to confiscate so-called scary guns from the hands of the law-abiding citizenry. AR-15 rifles, one of the most popular in the U.S., and AK-47s are the two scary rifles anti-gun liberals want out of the hands of civilians. Only the government can be trusted...

Striking Chicago teachers who are seeking smaller class sizes and higher pay also are demanding that the nation’s third-largest city do more to lower housing costs and put more resources into helping homeless students. The demand for affordable housing citywide — for students and their financially-strapped families as well as for school employees — stands as a dramatic example of organized labor’s effort to expand bargaining beyond bread-and-butter issues.

If a soundbite winds up being the highlight of a quarterback's night, that clearly means he didn't have a good night. When a mic'd up Sam Darnold was caught saying, "I'm seeing ghosts," down 24-0 in the first half of Monday night's contest against the New England Patriots, it was evident that things were somehow going to get worse for the New York Jets and their star QB. And by the time the final whistle blew on the brutal 33-0 loss to the undefeated Patriots, those suspicions had been confirmed: Darnold went 11-of-32 for a career-low 86 yards, was sacked...

Muslim employee files discrimination complaint against NY DMV for not accommodating his schedule for Friday prayers The New York chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-NY) announced Monday that an employee filed a discrimination complaint against the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) for not accommodating his schedule for his Friday prayers. A 40-year-old Bengali-American filed the complaint against the New York DMV Friday after he said the department failed to adjust his schedule for Friday prayers and Ramadan after his repeated requests. He said in the complaint that it is his “sincerely held religious belief that...

“Times have changed and they will continue to change. Avoiding victimization is your personal responsibility and how you choose to react to situations can have a very meaningful impact on the outcome for yourself and others. As Americans and New Mexicans, we are very resilient, resourceful people who always find a way to rise to the occasion and triumph. I have no doubt we will continue to do so. God bless those who have suffered and God bless those who have risen up to defend the defenseless.”

‘Woke’ idiocy comes full circle. The Chinese Communist Party says that criticizing LeBron James over his anti-free speech, pro-Beijing stance is racist. You knew it was coming. Following Houston Rockets General Manager Daryl Morey tweeting his support for the Hong Kong protesters, James said that Morey “wasn’t educated on the situation at hand and he spoke.” Siding with his Communist paymasters, who forced the NBA into a groveling apology after Morey’s tweet, the basketball star added that free speech had negative “ramifications.” Now the government-run China Daily, a mouthpiece for the Communist Party, has backed LeBron, asserting that criticism of...

On Hannity Monday night, Donald Trump made a statement about prominent media outlets that under any other administration may have come as a surprise. The Trump administration has long had a combative relationship with the media, in particular the New York Times and the Washington Post, and Trump told Sean Hannity he may “terminate” the outlets from the White House altogether. “They gave Pulitzer Prizes to people that got it wrong, OK?” Trump said. “All these people doing it for the New York Times, which is a fake newspaper, we don’t even want it in the White House anymore. We’re...
