Drysdale said something like “half the plate is mine and half is the batter’sbut he has to guess which half is his”. If the batter guessed wrong, he might get a little “chin music”.
Drysdale and Koufax were a force on the mound, back in the day.
The photo of Nolan thumping Robin Ventura’s head is a very popular souvenir at the shops in Cooperstown.
When Winfield was with the Yanks and playing a game in Toronto, he hit a seagull with a throw from the outfield. The next time the Yankees were in Toronto there was a warrant for his arrest.

Greatest moment in Texas Rangers history, well that, and the ball bouncing off of Canseco's head for a home run.
So that explains it! I've read previously that Gibson's 1968 season (along with a lot of other great pitching that season) led to the mound be lowered by 6 inches. Anyone have insight on that?
Ryan Duran brings a smile to my face, he with his coke bottle bottom glasses and 99mph fastball on the inside corner, that was baseball’s greatest years.
Gibson is needing all his toughness. He’s fighting pancreatic cancer.
Randy “The Big Unit” is also the one who splattered a flying bird as a fastball was on the way to the plate.
Batters get intimidated by the speed, and go for the bad stuff allowing the guy to get by with not such good control.
Countless times I've seen a guy swing at one in the dirt, or up eye level, off the base by six inches...
I haven’t followed baseball in a long time.
I grew up living and breathing it.
Yes. You’ve reminded me of it. I’d forgotten that. Feathers flew every direction. Thanks.
Gossage threw mid to upper 90's fastballs in a time when that was rare, and few batters could handle them, true. I think he would still be a dominant reliever in today's game because he knew how to pitch. The difference between Blake Cederlind (or Geoff Hartlieb, etc.) and an effective major league pitcher with similar stuff is command and sequencing. Parker Markel that pitched for the Bucs last year had great stuff, but got lit up every time because he had no idea where it was going.
No, he has Parkinson's disease....

Unfortunately my four years in college baseball were from 1964 through 1968. Oh well. I never saw Bob Gibson ...... then.

Thanks for the details. I still think the game would be better WITHOUT A PITCHERS MOUND.
(Every time I see a courtroom scene on tv with a judge it reminds me of a pitcher's mound. ....... (same thing with some pharmacists.) ___
By the way, do you remember "the terrace" in right field in old Crosley Field in Cinci.? As the outfielder approached the wall, the ground began to incline toward the wall. Made it a little hairy for a fielder who was not used to it.
LOL
I think he came into the game to pitch in relief once, was warming up and threw one up on the screen behind home plate. Got the batter’s attention.
Google Bob Gibson pancreatic cancer. It was a big story in Omaha where he lives.
LOL! I only saw “Gibson” and automatically thought he was referring to Kirk Gibson of the Tigers......
I live in wv. Twice our little league went to Crosley. Maybe 57 and 58. Sat in si deck for doubleheaders.
