( Its like the Democrats are running baseball)
Goose Gossage doesnt need to be welcomed at spring training to chime in on the sign-stealing scandal that has rocked baseball.
Gossage, who was banned as a Yankee spring instructor in 2018 for various criticisms of GM Brian Cashman and the teams analytics department, offered his latest Get off my lawn rant this week, including what his response would be to the Astros cheating scheme to steal signs via electronics during the 2017 season.
Guys used to steal signs all the time, the Hall of Fame closer told the Tampa Bay Times. Robin Yount and Paul Molitor were a couple of the best at stealing signs from second base, and [catcher Thurman] Munson comes out one day and says, I think theyre stealing our signs.
I said, Oh, OK. Munson runs back, he didnt even say anything, we knew what to do. He called a breaking ball and I threw a fastball under Robin Younts chin, and I think he saw his life flash before his eyes.
Gossage, a member of the Yankees 1978 World Series championship team, also dusted off a few of his greatest hits, with shots at Cashman and the analytics craze that has taken over the game in recent years.
These (stat-driven) workouts are all eyewash. Its a bunch of bullst. Its like the Democrats are running baseball, Gossage said. Theyre trying to control something that is uncontrollable. And theyre taking all the beauty out of the game.
(snip) -- Swinging for the fences, that uppercut (thats so common), oh my God, if I pitched today they wouldnt even sniff a ball.

If the signs are visible, they are not secret
There is no copyright on signs

LOL! Stick Bob Gibson on that little list.
And never forget wildman Ryne Duren....ouch.
Nearly half the batters are having shifts against them.
I could end that tomorrow by ordering bunts - sure hits.
But they wont do it.
Whatta bout the Heater from Van Meter?
I wouldn't argue strenuously that they are wrong.
I’m not really a sports guy, but I do know the names you mention. How would Randy Johnson stack up against Gossage, Ryan, and Drysdale?
Drysdale threw at a guy on the on-deck circle because he was trying to time Drysdale’s pitches. Imagine throwing at someone on the on-deck now. You see guys timing pitches all the time on deck.
I remember when Don Zimmer was with the Cubs. A player had a homer with RBIs, meeting players at the plate, high fiving, elbows, celebrating. Zimmer sat steaming on the bench. “Not happy, Zim?” A player asked. “No!” Responded Zimmer. “In my day, the next pitch would be in the next batter’s ear.”
Even Reggie Jackson said, round the bases as quick as possible with yuor head down and sit down. You don’t want anyone to get hurt.
The game isn’t what it was.
Those were the days.
Think about it. The pitching motion would be a lot easier on the pitchers' elbows and shoulders, and the batters would be seeing better pitches.
A BETTER GAME all around.
Pitchers are generally a bunch of sissies ........ needing a damn mound to throw off of!!
LOL
(A mound. Who in the hell came up with that ridiculous idea?)
Amen brother!
I especially loved his old fashioned baseball comment:
"He called a breaking ball and I threw a fastball under Robin Younts chin, and I think he saw his life flash before his eyes."
LOL! That's baseball........
Gossage was intimidating
ROFL
You’re right.
That too.
It’s a rigged system...
_______
Pretty similar.
As a lifelong Cardinals’ fan, I gotta the GREAT Bib Gibson to your list.

LOL ...... I hesitate to laugh though.
I was a hitter all my baseball life (centerfielder) and we don't like to laugh about HBP's.
But that is funny.
