Thanks for your response guys.

You make some good points. It doesn't bother me like it does you.

Hey, you may be right.

If the rules state you shouldn't do it, and I believe they do, then I
would object to it on those grounds.

They can expect a lot of chin music this year. And they deserve every bit of it.

One of the great baseball writers (can’t recall his name) describing the 1978 single game tiebreaker for the AL east at Fenway between the Red Sox and Yankees which the Yankees won with Gossage getting the save...Gossage came into the game not throwing pills....he was throwing quarks. Granted he gave up some runs but that descriptor made me laugh.

Thst would be fun to watch but they just need to raise the mound back up. Thats what made most of these guys unhittable.

It changes the delivery angle so these guys are pitching down hill. Watch some old footage of Bob Gibson and Juan Marichal and all the batter sees us their cleats followed by a fastball high and tight...

If you've got the control and can place the ball exactly where you want,

If they can's then they're not playing in the majors......

Yep, that was a tough series to lose.

IIRC, Curt Flood (CF) misplayed a flyball that cost them the series.

Gibson was amazing and tough as nails...but Stan the Man was my baseball idol as a kid. HUGELY underrated superstar.

Yes. Randy (The Big Unit) Johnson along with Alex (A-Rod) Rodriquez and Jay (Bone) Buhner they formed the late 1990’s Seattle Mariners all-sexual nickname group!

The delays and stories are fun. I miss Tony Gwynn a lot. His play and respect for the game were great. I think a lot played the kid game like kids. They enjoyed the game. Hard nosed as competitors and hard partying when it ended. There were grudges no doubt but there were characters and bs going on a lot. I hope these newbies still enjoy it. The old timers did.

I miss Catfish Hunter, one of the greatest money pitchers of all time. His complete games usually finished in two hours or less.

I still don’t know how the Tigers beat Gibson and the Cardinals in 68, but I’m just glad they did.

Gossage is delusional in thinking he would dominate today. He’d still be good, but today’s pitchers are better, overall . The Pirates suck, and they have a pitcher, Blake Cederlind who has as much “stuff” as Gossage. It’s unlikely he will start the season in the majors.

Ah, Thurmon Munson

There’s a story about Ken Clay, a Yankee pitcher from Lynchburg, Virginia. He was home speaking to a group, (Fellowship of Christian Athletes, I think). Ken was asked a question, “what to you think of Bob Lemmon as a manager?” He said one of his first starts for the Yankees, he was getting shelled in the first inning. He had faced 6 batters with no outs and 3 or 4 runs given up. Lemmon walked to the mound, took the ball, and said, “That’s OK son. Go have a few beers and shake it off.” Thurmon Munson was on the mound and said, “Hey coach, since you’re conceding the game, can I go get a few beers, too?”

My favorite Munson story.
