Everyone associated with the National Football Leagues has to be worried about this.
One of the current parlor games playing out in sports media executive suites is why the NFLs television ratings have dramatically fallen through the first four weeks of the season....
its oversimplifying it to say Colin Kaepernick and kneeling NFL players are driving way football fans. But its a factor, and maybe the biggest factor.
A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone and online survey finds that nearly one-third (32%) of American adults say they are less likely to watch an NFL game because of the growing number of Black Lives Matter protests by players on the field. Only 13% say they are more likely to watch a game because of the protests. Just over half (52%) say the protests have no impact on their viewing decisions.

I just don’t find NFL football that entertaining anymore. Too many flags. Too many injuries. Too predictable. Maybe I’m just getting old and grouchy. Short term problems for the NFL: ticket prices and competition with other forms of entertainment for the attention of millennials. Long term problems: See above and add injuries and the reluctance of parents to support the participation of their kids in the support. All that being said, at least in the short term the value of NFL franchises keeps going up. Even the Chargers are worth two billion dollars.
Same for the two-ply raglan-sewn henley shirt with the long tail.
Nobody makes or sells one like it any more...other than Duluth Trading and it's made in Madagascar or Timbuktu...some damned where other than the US and it's not raglan-sewn...probably because they can't profitably teach the method to the natives or some such crap.
They still charge an arm and a leg for it.
One problem with that, though. You can’t know who is doing the advertising unless you take a deep breath and turn on the game.
Just having the watching numbers will hurt the advertisers as well as the money the NFL gets. It’s a twofer.
Meanwhile Brady’s back this week. GO PATS. I can turn on the radio and listen on a LOCAL station.
Anti-Americanism is a good way to have your supporters drop you like a hot potato. Anti-White, Anti-Cop sport should be boycotted by ever real American, black and white. Let BLM support the NFL. What would Red Grange say? Time to Drop Professional Football and re-embrace Baseball—an American Sport.
Tom Brady he’s so dreamy. /s
“...when it comes to extorting hundreds of millions of dollars in stadium deals from local communities.”
Well put. he did the same thing back in 2012 when Minnesota’s legislature was debating a bill to help a billionaire pay for his new NFL stadium.
He flew in on his corporate jet, wore a nice suit and told the legislature that the Vikings would leave if they didn’t pony up the money for a new stadium and oh, by the way, it’ll be all of your faults if the team does leave. And then he got on his corporate jet and flew out again.
I have no time for Roger Goddell.
My 14 YO son loves football, all 5'10" and 115 pounds. He didn't try out for the freshman team, which surprised all of us. If he's not up to 150-160, I'll forbid him from playing next year, if he has a change of heart.
His reputation for toughness and game IQ preceded him, to the point where the varsity coach tried to convince him to try out.
For now, he's focusing on basketball. Varsity coach sat down with him, saying he would have made the team if he showed more skill with his left hand. He was one of 80+ that tried out for 24 slots.

Goodell was the NFL’s point man on stadium shakedowns for many years before he became Commissioner.
ESPN, Disney, and the NFL have tried to turn professional football into a shadow of it’s former self to promote endless SJW causes. I grew up in the 70s watching the hard nose teams basically have at it with out seeing a flag dropped every minute or endless lawyer debates over a catch. These guys think they have a captive audience that they can indoctrinate and teach them how to be civilized.
Across the board, the push to diversify and wussify the NFL appears to be damaging the entertainment product while at the same time they are trying to milk out more profits. Do we really need a month of players dressing in pink for breast cancer? If you want to emasculate a barbaric male sport while getting women to buy NFL merchandise, you bet. Another example is the hypocrisy about player safety, which if they really cared about the players, they would not be asking these guys to play 3 days later for the lame Thursday night game. The other thing I have noticed is empty seats at NFL games this year, which removes them as the last live sport not to suffer from the lack of audience participation.
Regardless of all this, I fully expect the SJW brigrade to double down on stupidity and continue the demise of the sport.
Exactly True !
The teams have already made their money in advanced ticket sales, season ticket holders, and television revenues.
If you want corrective action -> hit the money stream ..
television broadcast revenues paid by advertisers.. that is where they are vulnerable and responsive.
The television revenues pay the players contract salaries !!
Players and team management understand viewers resentments and take action when it affects their wallet !
“It has reached the point where wearing NFL gear has become an endorsement of the BLM agenda. I wouldn’t wear the gear if somebody paid me to do so!”
Ding ding ding, we have a winner!
I’m boycotting the NFL this year because the Cowboys weren’t allowed to pay homage to our fallen law enforcement officers.
I totally concur.
Might I add the too many flags.
or better yet, inconsistency in penalty calling.
And I don’t recall who said it, but when it comes to the so-called protests: Any coach has the right to bench a player, or for that matter, keep him in the locker room until the anthem is completed (followed by a benching).
This is all Goodell’s fault. the NFL used to be a place where we forgot about politics and everyone just rooted for their team one day a week. But NOOOOO.
First we gotta appeal to the women (Like they weren’t watching already)
Then we gotta go pink in October (really?)
Then bench a guy for a whole season for whipping a rookie (read: pu$$y) into shape (to which there were NO rules broken) - then being forced to pay him anyway [Richie Incognito]. All because a few text messages were un-PC.
Then, let’s hype up the fact that we literally FORCED a team to draft a sodomite.
And now, they OPENLY ALLOW insubordination at the opening of the game, which is of course encouraged by the media.
Look folks, I’m a black guy. But if I were a team owner, my rule would be simple: If you don’t stand up for my country, I won’t be standing up for you - stay in the locker room until I can put you on the trade block.
jimjohn - OUT.
Oh, and I forgot to mention:
Suspending a player for taking a drink in a different country not knowing there was a controlled substance in it.
(I believe that was Wes Welker)
My idea of a great pro football game:
Any of the following teams: Bears, Vikings, Packers, Giants, Steelers
Playing in an open air stadium
In December
A windy day, with some sleet or freezing rain
Final score: 7-3.
Don't think I have much chance of seeing that ever again.......
Stupid 65% of the people in this country.......is it really worth saving?
PLUS 13% said it made them watch MORE!!
NFL has jumped the shark.
Advertising and the manipulation of public perception have created a desire, and in some cases a “need”, to watch football.
If healthy Americans go through football “detox” they will discover that then can get along quite nicely without it. Then the problem will be what to do with all those extra hours on the weekend, and possibly with the extra money saved by not buying tickets and overpriced food, parking, and souvenirs.
(Maybe a good idea for a thread. What are you going to do with your extra time and money. I previously posted in jest about organizing my sock drawer. But some real answers might be enlightening and provide ideas for those going through withdrawal.)
A true Commissioner like Pete Rozelle would never have allowed this.
The buzz is folks want Kaepy starting.. Gabbert is not ready for prime time..
personally, I wish he would be allowed to wear his piggy socks for the game and watch the police turn their backs to him..
