I just don’t find NFL football that entertaining anymore. Too many flags. Too many injuries. Too predictable. Maybe I’m just getting old and grouchy. Short term problems for the NFL: ticket prices and competition with other forms of entertainment for the attention of millennials. Long term problems: See above and add injuries and the reluctance of parents to support the participation of their kids in the support. All that being said, at least in the short term the value of NFL franchises keeps going up. Even the Chargers are worth two billion dollars.
My 14 YO son loves football, all 5'10" and 115 pounds. He didn't try out for the freshman team, which surprised all of us. If he's not up to 150-160, I'll forbid him from playing next year, if he has a change of heart.
His reputation for toughness and game IQ preceded him, to the point where the varsity coach tried to convince him to try out.
For now, he's focusing on basketball. Varsity coach sat down with him, saying he would have made the team if he showed more skill with his left hand. He was one of 80+ that tried out for 24 slots.
