The Primary is Over It's Time to Back Trump

Posted on 05/04/2016 9:11:00 AM PDT by Cubs Fan

Other than the possibility of GOP convention shenanigans the primary is over. Trump is the nominee. Yet today on talk radio and in the punditry and elsewhere I see people still saying they won't support him.

The most common objections-

"Trump is not conservative."

Perhaps, but (look them up) his stances on the issues have a big overlap with conservatism. More than Romney or McCain ever had.

"He doesn't mean it"

When the media went after him for his positions he still stood by them steadfast. Most republicans would have caved under such pressure. Trump did not.

"His past is liberal"

Yes, he has had some things in his past that look bad. So what should we do? Stay home and get everything we all KNOW we don't want? or take a chance that Trump might be sincere in his change of mind? if he is not, and wins, then in four years we can vote him out.

I love the man’s message, it’s the ego I don’t trust.

Anyone who even entertains the thought of running for POTUS has to have a big ego. The job demands it.

And it his ego that will keep him honest. If he's got such a YUGE ego, he's not going to want to tarnish his legacy by going back on his word or doing something monumentally stupid as president.

I don't understand the "I don't trust his ego" argument.

Although I'm a Trump supporter, it would be nice if I had a chance to vote and have it count.

I'm getting sick of everyone else choosing the damned candidates.

I want one primary day for everyone.

“If only party matters, and not principle, then I would agree with you. “

The parties are squat. The issue is whether you want to see Hillary in the White House.

Donald Trump is at best, a Moderate Democrat. A Liberal Republican.

Build a wall on the border with Mexico
End the EPA, Dept. of Ed, etc.
Audit the Fed
Bring back coal
Secure the 2nd Amendment

Yup, sounds like a liberal to me...

We have no choice but to “take a shot”.

Trump may be to the right of McCain and Romney on immigration, but beyond that?

I don’t think anyone really knows.

Trump won fair and square - time to unite.

Now that I dispute completely. I've never seen a more vile and disgusting mass of unfounded accusations leveled against anyone so much as I have seen in this campaign, except for the Racist accusations made against Chris McDaniel in Mississippi by the GOPe coalition.

That's about the only thing i've seen worse than this vile and nasty primary campaign.

No, I don't think any of this was "fair and square", but it is what it is and we will just have to try and move forward from here.

God Bless and protect Donald J. Trump! Without him, we would be holding our nose and voting for another RINO. Most likely Jeb! Cruz would never have beaten Jeb without Trump! Trump cleared the field all on his own. Cruz layed low until the others got smashed by Trump. That is the only reason he lasted until the end. Even when Cruz was tag teaming with Rubio and Kashik he could not beat Trump. Trump is clearly the undisputed Heavy-Weight Champion! Thank you MR. Trump for saving this party and country from another 4 years of disaster and misery!

But most of them loved their country because they’ve been sucking on the teat of the country’s gravy train, compliments of the taxpayers. What’s not to love? They love it for the same reason people with EBT cards love it. The country supports their existence.

I respect Cruz for backing away from the abyss last night, particularly in the midst of the latest feud. But he did what was best for the country...and it surprised quite a few people.

No No No!!!! The man's a pathological liar who has committed adultery with Five different women and who's father helped assassinate Kennedy! He's a lunatic Religious NutJob who will impose Witch Trials on the nation, and Fling open the doors for Mexican Immigrants while he's plotting how to "Globalize" us with the Council on Foreign Relations.

He's a Vile, Evil, prevaricating Slime that needs to be thrown in Jail.

We know this is true because so many people here on Free Republic kept repeating this over and over and over and over, and they wouldn' LIE to us, or make up such horrible things, would they?

There is nothing Honorable about him. Obviously he quit because he was worried that Trump was going to expose his family in the Kennedy assassination plot! Or Expose his Mistresses! Or Expose his connections to the Tri-Lateral Comission! Or Expose his midnight devil worshiping ceremonies.

Yup, sounds like a liberal to me.

As they say, the devil is in the details.

And when Trump wins the presidency in a landslide (which I expect) because millions of former Liberal Democrats cross party lines what will be left of us Conservatives? We will be left with our "Deal Maker and Chief", left pressing harsh hope against time.

Cruz has been a solid conservative when the GOPe was spineless, and they hate him for that.
It has been VERY depressing to see how he was treated here, the home of conservatism. I thought we were better than that.
Those that loudly screamed Ted was ‘in bed with the establishment’ deserve to have their judgement questioned.
That said is it not wonderful that the vast majority of Republican voters voted for the two anti-establishment candidates?
Now that our little bloodbath is finished can we celebrate a giant victory for the voters over the GOPe?
I sent $$$ to Cruz but will happily support Trump.
I would point out to those who do not care for Trump you can default to ‘voting against Hillary’.
Now is the time to turn out the democrats, to the best of our ability.
Still, the best election ever!

Any time you see a #nevertrumper just realize that this is a person that wants to lose the Supreme Court and all their gun rights and a whole host of other things.

Remember that.

So much in terms of bring conservatives to support him depends on his VP pick. I personally think Newt would be a great choice.

....”The issue is whether you want to see Hillary in the White House”....

No it’s not for those who opposed Trump....this is being seen, now for many, that we have a choice between 2 Democrats for President and all that entails.....As a voters there are lines that many will not cross and they see both Trump and Hillary pass far beyond those lines....

It is not the least bit comfortable having to be presented with a choice between two of the most deeply flawed and disliked candidates ever to present themselves for election of Potus..... Clinton has proven herself completely unworthy of the office she seeks. And Trump has not proven himself even remotely worthy....and that’s where it’s at.

This is not what my father and grandfather fought and died for......Whatever America once was, it no longer is but has become something else...and neither of these candidates represent what many conservative voters are struggling with at this time........

.... You cannot expect them to jump on your train until they’ve worked through this tornado mess left in the trail of this primary election.......Trump and his supporters must give people time.

Two NYC liberals, mix-n-match. Not a dimes worth of difference.

Exactly. The greatest president warned us about that during his farewell speach in 1799.

I don’t know where people got the idea that the conservative republican referred to morals. I’ve always thought it was fiscal conservatism that they really were but would pander to people who were morally conservative and take advantage of their confusion. If people want a party that is morally conservative then they need to start one. I want a president that keeps us protected and the economy rolling. I would prefer they not get involved in moral issues.
