Can Donald Trump's Mockery of a Disabled Reporter be Defended?
RedState ^ | November 27, 2015 | Leon H. Wolf

...Mocking a disabled person for their disability has been universally passe since at least the 1950s, and so some of his supporters have been out on twitter over the last couple of days offering various defenses for Trump's behavior on this video. It is important to note that Trump himself has (as far as I know) offered only this by way of "explanation" for his actions:

Defense 1. Trump didn't know Koveleski was disabled...

So, to believe that Trump had no idea what Koveleski looked like or the particulars of his disability, you would have to believe a) that the entire written record of their numerous interactions is fabricated, and Koveleski in particular (the very person on whose word Trump is staking his 9/11 claims) is flat out lying b) that he said "the poor guy" when referring to Koveleski because... well, I have no idea what the "because" is even supposed to be on that one and c) Trump was able to pull off an imitation of Koveleski's specific physical deformity purely by chance...

2. "The Media" mocked Trig Palin for having Down's Syndrome, so they are fair game.

...if Tom Brokaw insulted Dick Cheney, that would not give Rick Santorum free license to punch Jake Tapper in the face.  That's more or less exactly the defense that is being raised by Trump supporters, though.

3. No one is above mockery...

The problem comes when people are mocked, not for the things they've done, but for the physical conditions over which they have no control...

Trump has demonstrated time and time again that he simply is not suited for the office either by temperament or by judgment...

Dang! Missed my chance to be "IBLL"!

Koveleski himself has noted the extent to which he and Trump have had personal interactions:

Kovaleski is a "journalist", which is to say "he's a liar".

Kovaleski also claimed that he got a quote from Sarah's Palin hairdresser, who begged to differ. She called him a liar, too.

The old "you're better/smarter than this " attack from which there is no defense.

The nation is about to be swallowed up by illegals and Syrian terrorists. I could give a crap about what Trump says about ANY reporter.

If he builds the wall, maybe. I guess that you don't get that this is all about action, not about feelings or sensitivity.

Andrew Jackson would have knocked the guy out---THEN made fun of him.

Trump is a professional. He is way beyond the level of the garage band playing the local sock hop. There are some spontaneous things that can happen, but most everything is pretty well choreographed.

Nothing this edgy comes out of a performer spontaneously unless the performer is very, very loaded. And, that does not happen very often anymore and it certainly is not happening with Trump.

Seriously you Trumpers need to read this and get a wake up call about the guy you are supporting. Its getting crazier and crazier and ya’ll are better than this.

Are we really? Just curious, who is setting the standard on how and what our candidates should say and behave? I suspect it's the clever MSM who have the knack in being able to sneak into the GOP politics and attempt to influence our opinions on any of the candidates.......

I favor two of the GOP candidates and won't let my opinions of either of them be influenced by the crap that's now being slung onto the wall in an attempt to create controversy over what's left dripping.........

As a post script, if the MSM should succeed in taking out Trump, who do you think their next target would be? And when that guy is eventually taken out, who is next?

Listen, I am not being particularly critical of what he did. That was his show and he knew what he wanted to do. All I am saying is that he did do what he wanted to do. It was not just an accident. Good or bad, you can judge it for yourself.

The great performance is by the NYTimes.
Their reporter is publically mocked as a weaselly liar and they turn the story upside down: that one of their reporters was not mocked for being a lying weasel, but for being handicapped!

Yes, they are all putting on a show.

Well, almost everyone - except Malcolm X, of course. ;-)

I watched the video clip in question and compared it to other trump speeches. I just don’t see him mocking this reporter comparing this speech to all the others with Trump flailing his arms around.

If Trump was mocking this guy it was a private deal because everyone I know thought he was talking about how flustered the guy was, at least when he said it that’s what we thought.

If by judge you mean votes, there is lots of evidence that Donald J Trump, Queens, New York native will win the Republican nomination and will give his acceptance speech in Cleveland, OH on June 28 or July 18, 2016.

Do you think Kasich will show his face? Kasich is a closet Democrat. He's not even a RINO. He should be banned from the Rep National Convention where the Trump/Cruz team will likely accept the nomination. Then a full court press to lock up all the swing and even some Red states to vote Republican. Game on! Go future President Trump!

‘The news’ is the longest running scripted reality show on TV.

Of course, he was. You're can't be that stupid.

Can you?

This is really the kind of guy you want to see as President?

All of this is entertainment while we await the election of Hillary Clinton. Conservatives have no candidate to rally around except Cruz and he is pretty much a dud as a candidate. Mr. excitement he ain't. Then you have Trump who just does what Trump does.

You need to watch some of Trump’s speeches because he he has used that exaggerated mocking for lots of things. Nothing new. This is just another example of the MSM looking for something to tear him down.

I proudly support Sen. Cruz and I know that I am never going to have to defend him for mocking a disabled person because he is much to honorable to do so.
