Ted Cruz would make a great President. Cruz is a patriot and an expert on the US constitution. He has made freedom-loving Americans happy with his attacks on ObamaCare, and his call to abolish the IRS. But he is obviously not an expert on everything, and does not seem to know much about music and the demographics associated with music. Cruz recently said:
"...I grew up listening to classic rock, and Ill tell you sort of an odd story: My music taste changed on 9/11. And its very strange. I actually intellectually find this very curious. But on 9/11, I didnt like how rock music responded. And country music collectively, the way they responded, it resonated with me. And I have to say, it just is a gut-level. I had an emotional reaction that says, these are my people. So ever since 2001, I listen to country music. But Im an odd country music fan, because I didnt listen to it prior to 2001..."
I have been a fan of both country music and classical rock music for 48 years. I bought my first country record in 1967, before Ted Cruz was born. The record was a duet of Johnny Cash and June Carter, titled "Jackson". June Carter later became Johnny Cash's wife.
Ted Cruz was wrong on the facts. Classic rock musicians and fans responded properly to 911, and raised a lot of money for 911 victims. The Democrats are likely to take Cruz's statements and use them in negative ads, which say that Cruz questioned the patriotism of rock music fans.
We should not promote the idea that rock music fans are less patriotic than country music fans. Imagine if Scott Walker had said that he stopped driving Sedan cars after 911, and started driving pickup trucks, because owners of pickup trucks are allegedly more patriotic than owners of sedans. That would be a stupid thing to say. And it is stupid and political suicide for Ted Cruz to question the patriotism of rock music fans.
I always wondered they used an anti-American song for that theme
This is satire, right?
You can’t be series.
Just as long as we get rid of the “aspiring rapper” I couldn’t care less.
Let’s Roll!
Who said that, a country guy or a rock guy? (I know the answer).
What kind of sound does this guy like?
Who GAF?
I don’t think he’s calling anybody unpatriotic. Just saying that it was different. And he’s right. Rock went back to its “protest music” roots, it is a genre that celebrates the questioning of authority. And country dug deeper into its “roots music” roots, it is a genre that celebrates home and hearth. So really what he’s saying is that 9-11 pushed him in the home and hearth direction and away from innately distrusting authority. Which happened to a lot of people, and is why the abhorrent and previously rejected Patriot Act got passed so easily.
Well, if we decided elections on whether a person liked Rock or Country...all I have to say is the South goes Left:

Anything to tear down Cruz. Their agenda is showing.

Thank you.
The man voiced a musical preference. Who cares? Are conservatives really so hyper-sensitive and easily offended?
Sheesh.
I was in a band that featured a girl singer who could really belt out the blues. Unfortunately she also liked what I called “angry lesbian love songs” like Morissette. It was difficult to play to without camping it up (so to speak) ;’)
Dumbest. Thread. Evah.
The way he put it, sounds like tarring with one brush. And it is the fault of his unfamiliarity with the larger genre.
That said, the right will be more forgiving to him on this one than the left would be. There will doubtless be a mea culpa from Ted and that will end the issue for all intents and purposes.
(Yes, dividing, like Obama, is not a good strategy. Thanks for the tip. I doubt he is being divisive with music. Next?)
Some is regular Rock and some is Rock In a Cowboy Hat, but it sure isn't Country anymore.
What kind of Ding Dong bases their vote on someones taste in music?!!
It’s a fumble. It can, and doubtless will, be corrected (by qualifying that he was still unfamiliar with a lot of the genre). I sincerely hope this is the worst problem Cruz has.
I know someone who voted for John Kerry b/c she liked the school his daughter went to.
I really think this was due to Cruz’s ignorance (the mass media country crowd is different from the down home conservative values country crowd). Ignorance can be fixed. Stupid lasts.
