Ted Cruz Will Lose, if He Tries To Divide Rock Music and Country Music Fans

Posted on 04/06/2015 9:25:43 AM PDT by pinochet

Ted Cruz would make a great President. Cruz is a patriot and an expert on the US constitution. He has made freedom-loving Americans happy with his attacks on ObamaCare, and his call to abolish the IRS. But he is obviously not an expert on everything, and does not seem to know much about music and the demographics associated with music. Cruz recently said:

"...I grew up listening to classic rock, and I’ll tell you sort of an odd story: My music taste changed on 9/11. And it’s very strange. I actually intellectually find this very curious. But on 9/11, I didn’t like how rock music responded. And country music collectively, the way they responded, it resonated with me. And I have to say, it just is a gut-level. I had an emotional reaction that says, these are my people. So ever since 2001, I listen to country music. But I’m an odd country music fan, because I didn’t listen to it prior to 2001..."

I have been a fan of both country music and classical rock music for 48 years. I bought my first country record in 1967, before Ted Cruz was born. The record was a duet of Johnny Cash and June Carter, titled "Jackson". June Carter later became Johnny Cash's wife.

Ted Cruz was wrong on the facts. Classic rock musicians and fans responded properly to 911, and raised a lot of money for 911 victims. The Democrats are likely to take Cruz's statements and use them in negative ads, which say that Cruz questioned the patriotism of rock music fans.

We should not promote the idea that rock music fans are less patriotic than country music fans. Imagine if Scott Walker had said that he stopped driving Sedan cars after 911, and started driving pickup trucks, because owners of pickup trucks are allegedly more patriotic than owners of sedans. That would be a stupid thing to say. And it is stupid and political suicide for Ted Cruz to question the patriotism of rock music fans.

The great irony is that Marxist professors at some of our universities have criticized rock concerts for their supposed "lack of racial diversity". Marxist professors view rock as "white music" alongside Country, Opera, Classical, etc. Marxist professors expect peoples tastes in music to be shaped by quotas.

A slight majority of rock music fans in America vote for Republicans. We cannot pit two Republican voting blocs, rock fans and country fans, against each other.

Anybody who thinks Cruz is trying to divide rock and country fans is too stupid to vote anyway.

I’ve been in classic rock and country bands since 1999. I’m not stupid. His remarks don’t phase me a bit. I actually understand where he is coming from.

The author seems to think the right is as stupid as the left. We aren’t.

For those who remember the 1984 Republican National Convention which re-elected Ronald Reagan. Born in the USA by Bruce Springsteen was the theme song of the convention.

I, for one, will not be selecting a nominee based on what music he/she listens to.

Perhaps some single-issue 'music' voters will?

I write both country and rock music. No dichotomy there.

Cruz was talking about Springsteen and Bono and Sting and all of the other big liberals.

The kind of music a candidate likes is not very high up on my list of criteria in deciding whether I will vote for them. I am not really sure that I could care less.

I'm not hiring him for his opinion on music, so I don't care what he says about that.

I did vote for him so that he could be up the noses of the lamestream media and the Senate.

He seems to do a good job of that. ;)

I pray God there is nobody in the country foolish enough to cast their vote for president based on his taste in music! That would be even more shallow than voting for a woman simply because it is allegedly “Time for a woman”.

Now if he was an Alanis Morissette fan, that might make me think twice.

I'm pretty sure he means Gordon Sumner and other liberal rockers.

And yet Springsteen is a flaming liberal. As far a country goes, you have the Ditzy Chicks. I don’t think it means a thing.

Born in the USA by Bruce Springsteen was the theme song of the convention.

Completely missing the point of the song.
