Rick Perry, hungry for redemption, says he’s a ‘substantially different’ candidate

The man who could be president is ambling through the Texas governor’s mansion on his own, whistling “Frosty the Snowman” as he approaches the parlor to greet a reporter.

Gov. Rick Perry (R) leads a tour and points out a historically inaccurate depiction of frontiersman Davy Crockett in an oil painting in the foyer (“His coonskin cap — that’s a myth”). In Sam Houston’s bedroom upstairs, Perry lifts an antique upholstered settee, a gift from the French, to read an engraving signifying Texas’s early-1800s ties to France. He shows off a Civil War-era saber that belonged to a Union general and mentions having just read a thesis on race in America that his friend’s black father wrote in 1970.

Rick Perry is trying to show that he is not the Rick Perry you remember.

Cruz is saying what you want to hear and he is indeed passionate. He's known for his rhetoric. He's a legal beagle.

But executive experience....he's a little short...in fact...a lot short.

He'll make a great USSC Justice someday.

“Don’t think we would lose as much of the base with perry as we had in 08 and 12. Still prefer a Cruz or Paul or Palin candidacy.”

If you want to lose a lot of the base, a libtardian like Rand Paul is a surefire way to do it.

Imagine my shock at yet another thread filled with people determined to pretend this POS is something he isn’t. Just what exactly does Perry have to do to convince people he’s a liberal? How far does he have to go before people admit what he is?

Wait. Forget it. FR still has people making excuses for Romney. Nevermind. Some people WANT liberalism.

Don’t prejudge Rick based on his former run which was done very suddenly and while he was recovering from back surgery. Rick is a very smart politician and could be a great president.

For one thing, on the foreign policy stage, no one is crazy enough to screw with him. I would vote for him in a heartbeat.

His wife? To know her is to love her, quite a nice lady. She would be a real to the First Lady position.
I am looking forward to his run.

I think it's more productive to deemphasize their amnesty obsessions---
and focus on the EFFECTS of amnesty----the destructive curricula, as one example.

Texas is a unique state that breeds a particular type of individual ideally suited for the presidency in my opinion.

I am ALWAYS distrustful of any candidate from the North East, the culture they grew up in makes them unreliable at best as conservatives.

Paul is not his fathers libertarian.

I could back him....I do need to do more research on him.
he is conservative compared to his father. I have lots of problems with some of the liberation mantra...but some of it overlays on top of the conservative perfectly. then there are gray areas.

I am a constitutionalist ...that is, we follow this vaunted document and its first 10 amendments religiously. (some of the post founding father amendments are dangerously wrong....I am too conservative to be a liberatarian and too libertarian to be a conservative.).

Pat Boone performed horrible music. His pap, white bread version of Tutti Fruti was too awful for words.

lessee...

Perry/Cruz
Secretary of State: John Bolton
AG: Trey Gowdy
Sec of Defense: Since Vlad the Impaler is unavailable I would go with the best man, not sure just who it would be.
Sec of Education: a shutdown artist to eliminate this agency. Weld the doors shut.
Sec of the interior: Someone like Jack Welch to uh.. streamline the operation.
EPA: Sarah Palin...,Bwahahahahahaha. Will drive the the eco whackjobs nuts and she will be in charge of shutting down all of the AGW rulings and getting agency back in touch with the real world at half or less of the current cost.

Not only has he aligned with that snake Schmidt but has also hired that conservative stalwart /s Henry Barbour. Two for the price of one? Hah!

It would seem that either ol’ Rick has absolutely no clue or he is as arrogant as the boobs he has chosen to associate with. I think it’s a lethal combination of both. Buh bye Rickster.

Cruzin’ to ‘16.

That’s the problem with Republican primaries, well meaning people don’t understand how much their favored candidate pisses off many of their fellow voters.

I loathe that bastard as do many others here. Just the other day he was off meeting with Al Sharpton about all the things they agree on. He hates the police, the military, our allies around the world, social conservatives, border security, the list is endless.

I expect Rand Paul supporters to be about as popular here before long, as Rooty Ghouliani supporters were in 2008.

You are right.

Perry is not Reagan.

And Perry did nothing the last time around to remotely reward him with another run unlike Reagan.

I think Rudy was a good mayor of the city of NY....considering its liberal stance on just about everything, Giuliani was a breath of fresh air....and he made it safe to walk the streets in many heretofore dangerous areas. just wait and see how the city turns to crap with this guy Diblasio.

but in any other context Giuliani is a liberal republican and cant pass muster in a national election.

I did not like Ron Paul’s seemingly Big L Libertarian stance. His son seems to be less, but I am not sure. My big problem with Ron was him condemning the country and blaming us for 9/11. You don’t bring this up in a time of national crisis. You go out and take care of the problem.
We should have done everything short of nuclear war to get Bin Laden (well maybe a few tac nukes would have been ok).
(BTW: I was disappointed with Bush for stopping the search for Bin Laden to take care of his daddy’s failure of not getting Saddam Hussein.)

It’s amazing how little he did to stand up against Obama with regards to Illegal immigration in Texas, but we are supposed to ignore that because why? He can shoot a gun and wears a cowboy hat?

Ted would be light years ahead of Perry in the position of President.

Senator Cruz is a good man and a solid conservative. Unfortunately, he has zero executive experience. The office of the presidency is no place for amateurs, a lesson we have painfully learned.

Al Gore, IIRC, remade and reintroduced himself 3 or 4 times during the 2000 race. Kerry tried it a couple of times in 2004.

Whenever a candidate has to remake, reintroduce and reinvent himself, he/she is already running from behind. That gives them the appearance of being a questionable chameleon more than a potential statesman.

Do you really believe that Obama is a failure simply because he had no executive experience?

Obama never meandered or ambled...

Of course not, he was carried by libtard reporters in one of those King chairs. Then when set down, he "strode" or "marched". The media is so obviously biased it's funny. I watched Nora O'Donnell visibly clenching her teeth as she angerly grilled the former cia chief. She hates america and protecting our freedoms.

>>Pat Boone performed horrible music. His pap, white bread version of Tutti Fruti was too awful for words.<<

But some things are so exquisitely bad they achieve a sort of uber-worldness,

I also think that Boone was winking at us for that entire album, like Lorne Greene when he recorded the “Bonanza” album.

And the best info we got from the latter is the first name of Hoss..
