I suppose that would depend on how the particular individual presents the change...

" I was wrong, and I've learned from my mistakes" would go a long way with me.

Speaking of hires...I’ve noticed Gov-elect Abbott hired several of Perry’s campaign staff. I get emails from the same people (who were on Perry’s campaign staff), with different (Abbott) email addy’s. I guess that’s standard procedure.

People want so very badly to have a white knight/cowboy ride in to save them that they will flock to a guy that merely dresses the part and reads scripted lines with words they want to hear.

Rick Perry not only spoke to LaRaza and funded illegals, he called Hillary a great SOS. Now if people think somehow that these major problems (among MANY others) are just non issues, those people deserve to have President Perry strip them of their cash to fund those illegals and send their kids to die in Bhenghazi or some other muslim craphole.

If they want the fantasy Rick and are content to ignore the screaming neon warning signs that Mr. not so former when it comes to his actions and utterances Democrat broadcasts with great frequency, then they DESERVE what happens to them. I just wish they’d stop pretending they are conservative and go somewhere more suited to their political and moral beliefs.

Of course they DO push Perry BECAUSE they don’t want us getting a conservative into a position of power. Because they are liberals with an agenda and they are here acting on that agenda. Thus the Perry talk is ongoing.

I will vote for Rick over Jeb, Santorum, Huckabee, and the likes if necessary but I would like a more solid conservative.

There isn’t a dimes worth of difference between Rand and Ron Paul, both are Libtardians, not conservatives.

There are much deeper problems with Perry besides the La Raza connection, as if that isn’t enough of a problem. He has a history of making bad decisions and having to retract himself, whether its the TTC or Guardasil fiasco. He also engages heavily in crony capitalism with the same crowd who support amnesty. He also went all in on supporting Dewhurst over Cruz for senator. That’s a major tell of where Perry’s heart lies. He’s a liberal (converted) republican opportunist and always has been since his entry into Texas politics.

Won’t work. The President and VP cannot be from the same state. Cruz could make the best AG the country ever had.

Oh I know. And I agree completely.

the problem with the Perry situation on FR is that we have all at one point or another beaten all of his horses into molecular dust. And that’s a lot of work since his stable of jaunts into liberal land looks like a stockyard.

But his true believers are intent on rewriting history for the lurkers and newer Freepers that may have missed said beatings. The problem is that this cycle has repeated so very many times that most, myself included, just resort to listing a few of his more recent liberalisms or his greatest hits.

You are totally correct. There is a TON more. But I think a lot of us are just fed up to the gills with fighting the same battles over and over and retyping the same facts we’ve typed for literally years now. So we just use shorthand. Which does leave out a lot.

Americans are very forgiving----they will absolve their politicians of most anything.

But Americans cannot forgive a politician who does not understand the ramifications of his words.

Perry's 2008 debate sneer---slapping down voters as "heartless" for not wanting to subsidize illegals--- was his self-serving notion that he was better than voters---but it exposed his political self-destruction.

In politics the old adage still applies---its not about how much "voters like the candidate"---it's about how much the "candidate appears to like the voters."

Thanks for the link!

I remember the story, he saved his daughter’s dog from a nasty fight, IIRC!

I’d still take Perry over the squatter now occupying the WH.

true believers are intent on rewriting history

That is true of most of the {preferred-candidate}bots who especially show up during election cycles. They post their propaganda in nearly every election-related thread. Many of them then browbeat anyone who posts oppostion or raises questions. Their attack posts become more vile, more vicious, and more scorched earth, as the election approaches.

Then we get the 'well, nobody is perfect but my candidate preference is the closest to perfection'.

Do you really believe that Obama is a failure simply because he had no executive experience?

This is a significant part of it. Bill Clinton, for all his foibles, at least knew what the hell he was doing.

Perry didn’t make a mistake.
He made a graft.

And supporting vaccinations for venereal diseases in school age kids? The man should have seen huge giant “don’t throw away your career in Republican politics” sign. You don’t try to get conservatives to make their kids all ready to go bed hopping. That means that there was a massive intelligectual failure to match the moral and ethical one.

Others have covered his coddling of illegals.

The TTC is a similar mess.

He is not as bad as McCain, but he doesn’t miss that mark by much.

I had positive thoughts about winning in 2016 with a good conservative, but then I kept reading threads about the election here at FR, and now I figure we’ll screw it up just like we do everytime, with conservatives all fighting each other over which candidate is the purest of them all, until some establishment candidate ends up our nominee again.

Meanwhile, we teach even somewhat conservative outsiders that the best way to get the nomination is to kiss up to the establishment. In 2008 that’s what McCain did, in 2012 Romney got the message and won the nomination abandoning any pretense of supporting any conservative causes.

I don’t know which of the 2012 quasi-conservatives will jump to the establishment in 2016, but I’m guessing we won’t be happy in the end.

If your candidate supports abortion, amnesty, gun-control, socialized medicine or bigger government, your candidate is a liberal.

Don't tell conservatives they have to vote for a liberal.

They won't do it.
