During the 200 election I found Free Republic. For the next 12 years it was a place I went several times a day for news and analysis. Then during the 2012 election I got fed up with the people who had/have the exact attitude that Herman Cain talks about in this article. So I left probably to never return. This article explains very well my feelings for people who stayed home because Romney was not pure enough for them. Enough that we could have won. I would say those people got what they deserved but the rest of us are paying the price also.
Well, good for you.
Personally, I had no intentions of voting for Romney. I prayed about it quite a bit and I had no doubt that God was leading me to pass on voting for that queer-loving liberal. Then came Benghazi, and I went against what I KNEW God was telling me, and I voted for Romney anyway.
Immediately, the day after the election, I didn’t feel God there any longer. Of course it was I who created that distance, not Him. I had asked Him for His guidance and then deliberately ignored it.
It’s taken this long to rebuild the relationship I had with Him. I did some sincere repenting and asked for His forgiveness, and He, in His grace, granted it.
But I’ve learned a hard lesson. I will not-—repeat, NOT-—ever again endanger my standing with God by aligning myself in the voting booth with a candidate like Romney. By that I mean a moderate or liberal Republican who does not espouse conservative social principles and values. And I couldn’t care less how much I get flamed, or called a purist, or any of that other garbage.
And all that 0bama touches turns to $hit...the demoncRATS and the RINOs own ALL of this.
Romney would have been the “Republican” fall guy, the Republicans and by extension, Conservatives, would have been held accountable for all the idiocy that the feckless and useless Congress is enjoining right now...0bama is just a bit player in this production.
How I loathe whining and finger pointing...
I didn't vote for Romney because I wanted someone who would dial back the welfare state and reduce the size and power of our government.
Someone who was on board with the Republican platform, in other words. None of our mainstream Republican candidates seem to be so... and it takes more than "not being the other guy" to win the vote of anyone you'd respect.
I recollect a relatively recent NYT article indicating that the last congress was the least productive ever.
My expected result of not voting for Romney was realized.
I failed to vote for Romney, not because he wasn’t pure enough, but because he wasn’t even close.
Romneycare was an unforgiveable in my eyes. When faced w/a choice of a free market solution or a government one, Romney chose government, so I did not choose him.
The problem w/”insurance” and healthcare was that the gov’t was already too involved. We needed less gov’t there, not more. Romney gave MA more.
So who’d want a Romney that would produce a “more productive congress” that would just further erode our freedom?
By not voting for Romney, I voted for legislative stalemate and that’s exactly what we got.
RINOs and folks like you obviously still don’t get it.
I am a staunch conservative, but I held my nose and voted for Romney in 2012 when I considered the alternative.
Lo and behold, before the dust from the debacle had settled, staunch conservatives were being blamed for Romney’s loss because they stayed at home.
Damned if I do, damned if I don’t.
At that moment, I made the decision that now guides my political participation: You want my vote, you earn my vote.
It’s not going well for the GOP-e, given that they’ve declared war on people like me.

Guilt, it’s what’s for breakfast!
Just remember, you can lead a horse to water, but you can’t make him cross the street.
Understood. I honestly don’t think people realize that there wasn’t a dime’s worth of difference between Obama and Romney on the moral issues God cares about. God blesses obedience. God punishes disobedience. So our freefall would’ve been the same or worse under Romney.
Our Founders understood that simple formula. That’s why they conformed our laws to God’s commands. And our nation was richly blessed for the first couple hundred years for that obedience. Neither that obedience nor those blessings were accidents.
But in the past few decades we’ve rejected God’s commands in favor of depravity, and our formerly rich and prosperous nation is teetering on the brink of bankruptcy. That punishment isn’t an accident either.
So the moral views of our leaders is a national security issue, with God removing our security. I could’ve no more voted for Romney than I could’ve voted for Obama.
Romney did not win because posters on free republic stayed home. That’s silly. While Free Republic has a fairly large following, it isn’t anywhere near big enough to affect a national election.
But, to discuss your point for a moment.
You think people left Romney because he wasn’t “pure enough.” I say that the people were not the ones running Romney’s campaign, so your blame is pointed at those who had absolutely nothing to do with the positions Romney chose to take.
Romney lost because of poor strategy. HE, Mitt Romney, decided to run to the left in order to capture left leaning voters. Therefore, he came out in favor of gay adoption, gay scouts, health of mother abortions, gun control like he passed in Massachusetts, Romneycare, and “revenue enhancement.”
That strategy failed. He thought he’d pick up more moderate liberal voters than what he’d lose out of the conservative base. He was simply wrong in his calculation. He didn’t attract liberals, and he lost the conservatives that he had intentionally decided he could do without.
So, blame me, blame free republic, but you might as well be blaming Santa Claus.
Romney lost because Romney chose a bad strategy. The general lost his own war.
With the former, we get a House and Senate well stocked with RINOs and sometimes even a Republican majority. With the latter, we get a ideologically pure minority. SO FAR. But, I keep dreaming we will make even more gains over the next two or three election cycles. THEN we can effect real change. Only then.
But in the past few decades weve rejected Gods commands in favor of depravity, and our formerly rich and prosperous nation is teetering on the brink of bankruptcy. That punishment isnt an accident either."
Very well said, IMO. There will always be consequences for defying God. They may come now, or maybe later, but they're a sure bet.
Here is what totals on the first and second slots looked like:
Romney - 2,270,395 50.39%
0bama - 2,178,391 48.35%
Libertarian - 44,515 0.99%
Governor:
McCrory - 2,440,707 54.62%
Dalton - 1,931,580 43.23%
Libertarian - 94,652 2.12%
You can see the discrepancy. Romney should have won NC in a landslide.
There was a determined and successful fraud operation carried out which elected 0bama.
Romney was a pro at pushing the “gay” agenda in Massachusetts.
In May of 2012, he said that any two people who “love each other”(retch), including queers, should be able to adopt children.
The Folsom Street Fair in San Francisco features sodomites parading their adopted toddlers on leashes. The children are dressed in leather bondage clothing. Giving children over into the hands of such perverts is one of Willard’s core principles.
Poor Herman and billva...
It is not the job of the voter to choose a candidate that can win. The RINOpublican party chose RINOmney. RINOmney admitted they told him they “stole the primary victory”.
It is up to the party to choose a candidate who represents the interests and passions of the greatest number of potential voters. They failed.
I did not vote for RINOmney. He didn’t register at least 65% of my passions and interests. He was a lame candidate, in a cult, supporter of abortion and gays, etc. I live in a blue state which Zero won by +10 million votes, so my vote had no impact either way.
If the RINO wing of the Central Government Party wants to win, they will recruit and run a different quality of candidate. They don’t, of course. They are quite pleased with their Little RINOs.
Worst.
Opus.
Ever.
Obama was late to the gay agenda that Romney had been pushing for almost 20 years.
Romney had been supporting and campaigning on homosexualizng the military, and for gay Boy Scout leaders, since 1994, as Governor he gave America gay marriage, he had been aggressively pro-abortion since 1963, and ran against the GOP pro-life platform, and for "health" of the mother abortion, and ran pro-abortion ads, in 2012 (after winning the nomination).
