Poland Calls on NATO Allies to Raise Defence Spending to Three Per Cent of GDP

WARSAW, Poland (AP) – Poland’s president on Monday called on other members of the NATO alliance to raise their spending on defense to 3% of their gross domestic product as Russia puts its economy on a war footing and pushes forward with its invasion of Ukraine.

President Andrzej Duda made his call both in remarks in Warsaw and in a piece published by The Washington Post. His appeal came on the eve of a visit to the White House, where U.S. President Joe Biden will receive both him and Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk on Tuesday.

“Russia´s imperialistic ambitions and aggressive revisionism are pushing Moscow toward a direct confrontation with NATO, with the West and, ultimately, with the whole free world,” Duda said in the op-ed.

If they want to increase their spending on these efforts, fine. They need to defend themselves.

They also need to defend themselves from the globalists who are pushing war with Russia.

This might move the needle on the Ukraine war in 12-18 months.

Info posted to another, similar thread:

US GDP - 24 trillion USD > [ is greater than ] EU GDP - 17 trillion USD > Russia GDP - 2.5 trillion USD estimate.

EU population - 450 million > US population - 340 million > Russia population 145 million.

Poland's GDP alone is supposed to be about half of Russia's, and their population is about 36 million our of the EU's 450 million. Seems as if the EU member states could and should be providing for their own defense if the "bear" is so threatening.

"Let's Ukrainians and Russians fight" as a proxy for Europe/NATO in general and Poland in specific has not proved as effective as the proxy enthusiasts have thought it to be. Oops.

It will be lovely to watch the other EU member states discuss spending 3% of their budgets. Why not 5%? Why not more?

Here’s a few thoughts about Russia’s desires re imperialism and defense spending by Nato going up to 3%.

# 1, many of these socialist weenies/sissies raised by single moms and dead beat dads RUN AWAY when their country is attacked. Duuh! This is a recent and indisputable FACT. So, WHY should one American Mother’s son die for the bastards?

# 2, forget 3% of GDP and start thinking 30% or more in today’s high tech enormously destructive/lethal combat.

# 3, Russia’s GDP is less than 2 million and falling. NATO’s is many, many times that.

# 4. IF Trump get’s in, you European socialist creeps are on your on.

I predict you’ll be drafting women to fight!

The only one pushing war is Russia. All of this would stop if they just went home. I am amazed how there are some who would absolve Russia from all responsibility in this and justify their actions.

Nope-

Despite all the talk of a Russian threat and war, nations like Germany, Hungary, Austria, Italy know the truth and they have no interest in paying more. Maybe a little bit (~10-20%), but nothing even close to 3% which would a doubling for Spain.

The ones that are paying over 2% or even 3% are those that have colonial interests in Africa, Asia and South America, specifically France and the UK. Outside of NATO, they have their own interests which they need to be able to fight for.

In fact, since the wars begin over 2 years ago, those nations not paying their minimum contractual NATO requirement, STILL have not increased their spending to at least the minimum 2%.

Behind closed doors, no one believes in this Russian threat, because it is simply not there. It’s empirically, measurably, i.e. “factually” not a reality. The threat being sold to the public is a Cold War era threat, a boogieman that ceased to exist in 1991 with the dissolution of the Soviet Union. Only months apart, you had the dissolution of the Warsaw Pact also in 1991. There is no Warsaw Pact or Soviet threat. There is merely a Russia, with 1/3 the military manpower they had in the Soviet era, whom we have been kicking in the balls for years.

Hungary, Italy, Spain... have zero interest in spending their money on our wars. Now, that’s not how CNN is going to explain it, but that’s what it’s really about.

My post was not absolving Russia from anything. I cannot see why some of you have such a hard time understanding that.

It is a fact because of the proxy war in Ukraine that western nations want a war with Russia.

Even if Russia left Ukraine, the globalist neocons of the world still intend to have a war with Russia.

Nonsense. This is a war for Ukrainian independence. Your boogeymen Neocons urged Zelensky to leave when Russia invaded. They did not expect Ukraine to survive and did not want this war. Russia was not forced into this war, they chose it. It is Putin's attempt to subdue Ukraine and bring it back under the umbrella of mother Russia. To claim anything else is to justify his aggression.

So Russia wanted to base US warships, tanks, missiles, fighters and bombers, missile defense, troops, in Ukraine by expanding NATO into there?

What did Biden mean in 1997 when he said this? https://www.facebook.com/rishibagree/videos/1997-the-only-thing-that-could-provoke-a-vigorous-and-hostile-russian-response-w/1131428724346357/

So Russia withdrew from the Ballistic Missile Treaty?

So it’s ethnic Americans that speak English, go to American churches... living in Eastern Ukraine which have lived with a boot on their neck?

So the $>150 billion USD spent didn’t go to Ukraine (early on and is far from inclusive): https://www.aljazeera.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/INTERACTIVE-What-weapons-is-US-sending-Ukraine-.png?w=770&resize=770%2C770&quality=80

Russia has an argument to be there, what do you have?

We’ve been wanting them to do this for years, regardless of what’s going on in Ukraine. It was central to Trump’s NATO policy and he’s campaigning on it today, rightly so.

They should give Trump credit for it. He demanded this repeatedly when he was President and is still demanding it.

If this were truly all about NATO expansion, as the Russian apologists claim, then let Putin offer to withdraw from Ukraine in return for Ukrainian neutrality. He will not do that because the real reason for this war is that he does not recognize Ukraine as an independent country from Russia, as he has stated publicly for years. What was the excuse for the real start of the war: the Russian invasion of 2014? NATO expansion was not on the table and was not given as an excuse.

As for the so-called oppression of the Russian minority in Donbas, it did not happen. Despite all the wild claims to the contrary, all the language law did was mandate the use of Ukrainian in state institutions and its use alongside Russian in the media. Stop believing in Russian propaganda.
