Atlanta is abandoning Turner Field and building a new baseball stadium elsewhere. Of course there’s plans for revitalizing the area, but I expect little. A square mile of unused asphalt will indeed blight the area.

Democrats destroy cities, and it seems that Black Democrats are the worst when it comes to cronyism and corruption. You see it in Atlanta and other cities, as well as countries in Africa where Blacks take over from Whites. And, lest it be overlooked, just look at what Obama has done to this country in 7.5 years. Laws are repeatedly ignored by the Federal Government, judges orders are ignored, illegals stream across the border and the border patrol is told to not enforce the laws. And it goes on and on. So, yea, Democrats are bad, but they don’t hold a candle to Black Democrats cause the Black Dems can always claim racism to justify their actions.

I'm no fan of the Braves organization but they have been lied to by every ATL regime since the days of Fulton County Stadium. For decades city officials promised to develop and curb blight around Fulton County Stadium. Then Turner Field is built across the street in 1997 with the promise that the city will redevelop the area as part of the deal.

Fast forward a decade or so and the Braves ownership sees the area continuing to decline (from its already declined state...) and know they have to do something as fans will not venture into the city as potential targets, no matter how good the team is (well...in this case, was...). They had been studying and polling demographics of their attending fan base for a few years when they announced the move up I-75 to Cobb County, at a location just outside the I-285 perimeter, opening in 2017.

Oh, by the way, the city regime is now promising to redevelop the area for the next tenant. You just can't make this stuff up...

A baseball stadium is a very large, and very specialized, structure.
“Next tenant” is a non sequitur unless you first spend $ millions leveling the stadium and surrounding infrastructure.

Might be a good candidate for an idea I’m mulling over recently: capitalistic feudalism.
Such high population / low productivity areas are extremely hard to revitalize. Total abandonment of such a large space gives opportunity for development, but such development requires comprehensive planning focused on achieving profitable productivity, with details all the way down to low (but functional) income housing and mercenary style security - much akin to medieval fiefdoms and for much the same reason.

Without localized central planning pursuant to real large scale productivity, such areas will be dead for decades.

A perfectly relevant point to make as the Braves just left Turner Field to move out of the hood to Gwinnett County.

Woops Cobb, not Gwinnett, my bad. Cobb is much safer than Gwinnett these days.

Looks like GSU is getting the deal...seemingly because they will use the stadium for their developing sports programs.

Is it pronounced like gwinnit or more like gwinette? I’m a New Englander, for reference purposes.

He’s sending them there for ALL of their basic necessities, not just cops. The cities have to deploy their limited resources protecting the tiny workforces that even show up anymore from the savages...

Strange too. The same problems that plague these “Democrat” run cities also seem to plague places like Port Au Prince, Lagos, Johannesburg, David, Chiriquí in Panama (otherwise Panama is relatively safe) Hm....I wonder what the common denominator could possibly be?

Most significant is the fact that the city has been led exclusively by Democrats since the 1960s and early '70s, the period when the Democratic Party emphatically broke away from centrist liberals and fell predominantly under the sway of its far left wing, a course which it still follows to this day.

Evidently the Black churches use The Communist Manifesto rather than the bible in their services. Not one of them seems to have the slightest interest in any issue beyond race, poverty, and "social justice." Hey, maybe they worship Father Coughlin!

I have some friends who moved to Gwinnett County (Lilburn) back in 1992. They regarded it as such a wonderful place and how it consistently fought to keep out MARTA and, thus, keep out the riff-raff. I guess Section 8 did the job that MARTA couldn’t do. After the gentleman retired in 2013, they moved to a brand new house in Cherokee County (Canton). He now says there is no Gwinnett County anymore, and refers to it as “DeKalb County East”.

Having lived in The Berkshires, Springfield and just outside of 128 for a number of years I understand the dilemma.

I live fairly close to Cobb ("cob", not "cahb") but I am thankful that we don't have to work on our pronunciation of "wustah" or "nahwood". However, in Beautiful Bartow County we have "whytes" (for White, GA) and "newharlee" (for Euharlee, GA). To your question, it is more like "gwin-ette".

Thanks.

I grew up in Wilbraham, you may have heard of it, maybe not. The big claim to fame was it’s the Home of Friendly’s Ice Cream.

Newark’s south ward could fit that easily (but you have to take your allocation of gibsmedats akin to the Quartering Act)...

Oh yeah...Was introduced to Friendly's in the late 60's while in HS in the Berkshires. Returned to the area in the late 70's for grad school in Springfield. I remember always smiling at the Friendly's logo built into the hill on their property on the Mass Pike. I remember their peanut butter and jelly ice cream half gallons from the 60's...not a fan (because of the jelly) but liked their inventiveness when their was very little variety in other brands.
