Atlanta, Georgia has not been governed by a Republican mayor since 1879. Most significant is the fact that the city has been led exclusively by Democrats since the 1960s and early '70s, the period when the Democratic Party emphatically broke away from centrist liberals and fell predominantly under the sway of its far left wing, a course which it still follows to this day.
One of Atlanta's more important political figures during this Democratic era was its first African American mayor, Maynard Jackson, who held office for three (non-consecutive) four-year terms: 1974-78, 197882, and 199094. In May 1974, the newly elected Jackson stoked racial tensions in Atlanta when he undermined the authority of the incumbent (white) police chief, John Inman, by making him subservient to the newly appointed Public Safety Commissioner, the black activist Reginald Eaves. Eaves was a longtime friend of Jackson's and had no law-enforcement experience whatsoever. Corrupt to his core and possessing an unparalleled sense of shameless entitlement, Eaves openly and defiantly used public money to purchase extra options on his fully loaded city vehicle, stating: If I cant ride in a little bit of comfort, to hell with it. He sparked further controversy when he appointed an ex-convict as his personal secretary and instituted a quota system that gave preference to African Americans for hirings and promotions within the police department. Eventually, in 1978, Mayor Jackson was forced to fire Eaves for the role the latter had played in a scandal where he had helped police officers cheat on promotions exams.

Add Atlanta to the list.
What city haven’t they destroyed?
Democrats destroyed Detroit and Atlanta? How about blacks destroyed Detroit and Atlanta? Democrats run Vermont but it hasn’t been destroyed yet as far as I can tell. Maybe they’ll import millions of blacks to destroy that too.
They’re importing in Syrian Mohammadans to Vermont (Rutland, to be specific). Hope the White libs enjoy their new lil friends and all the joy they’ll bring.
Maybe this is silly to mention but on Facebook, there is a page dedicated to “Lost Ballparks”, where people discuss the MLB ballparks of the past and share pictures and memories, etc. I can remember one day asking why Crosley Field in Cincinnati was retired in 1970 and wondering if it could have been kept and the general comments tended to include that the surrounding area was becoming dangerous crime wise and people really did not want to venture there to take in a ballgame.
The same was mentioned with Forbes Field in Pittsburgh and Connie Mack Stadium (Shibe Park) in Philadelphia. Yet another gift from Democrats running big cities like that for years.
Ha. They deserve each other. I’d send all the Syrians and Somalians to Vermont and force the white liberal cucks to stay there.
The fact is that the urban operating model doesn’t work in a post-manufacturing economy; here in NJ workers are increasingly commuting from one suburb to another, and the cities are just welfare reservations with no economic viability...
They are doing that to find sugar daddies for the Welfarians; they need a taxpaying host to provide schooling, housing, and police/fire protection for the urban livestock that won’t lift a finger for their own maintenance. The racial angle is secondary.
True about the corruption. I heard a building contractor talk about all the payoffs you had to make in Atlanta to get contracts. He stopped working in the city. He came back when Andy Young was mayor and said the inspectors had stopped asking for bribes. Young was the best mayor Atlanta has had IMO.
Also, back in the 80s-90s bars were supposed be closed on Sundays. They stayed open under Jackson, shut down when Young was mayor, then opened up again when Jackson got back in power. It was pretty clear there were payoffs because the bars operated in violation of the law with no fear whatsoever under Jackson.
And as far as corruption, don’t even talk about Bill Campbell, the worst mayor in the history of Atlanta.
Here's a photo of a major manufacturing facility in the U.S. today. It's a Honda plant in Ohio. There isn't a major city anywhere in the U.S. that could accommodate a building like this:
Was that this Bill Campbell? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tqdtwgIv2z4
Ha. Get in line. Heck, Milwaukee was once led by a socialist.
Actually you could put a dozen of those in now empty parts of Detroit.
In anyone were crazy enough to do it.
Vermont ranks 49th in economic prosperity of the 50 states. Tax burden (tax to income ratio) is the highest in the nation. During the “age of Obama” regulatory pressures have increased exponentially. We’re not dead yet, but the radical progressives are driving the stake towards our heart.
See #4 for what Obama’s importing to Vermont (and Maine).
How the Democratic Party Ruined Atlanta, Detroit, Chicago, Baltimore, New York City, Los Angeles, Seattle, Portland, Denver, New Orleans, Miami, Houston, Dallas, Philadelphia, .......
Excellent observation.
It also speaks to the madness (partially in hindsight) of our Interstate highway system.
There is no reason for Interstates to cut straight through urban centers, often bisecting them, now. Once upon a time they provided access to rail terminals, warehouses and factories and delivery vehicles but cities have few of those now.
Now these urban stretches simply create bottlenecks due to elevated sections that are difficult and expensive to change/expand or that have limited right-of-way space and can’t be expanded at all. Few want to live next to a highway so the zone around these highways is often blighted due to avoidance/abandonment.
In the meantime, beltways, spurs, extensions, loops, etc. are woefully oversubscribed due to trucking fleets being headquartered out of town where land is cheap and due to sane people fleeing said welfare reservations and needing to make the commutes you describe.
Good old US (federal) highways are being built up, repaved, made limited access, etc. in a bid to play catch up but it’s not enough.
