Clint Eastwood's record-breaking film, scoring six Oscar nominations, is galvanizing moviegoers in both red and blue states....
Clint Eastwood's American Sniper is smashing records at the North American box office, where it topped Friday's chart with $30.5 million from 3,555 theaters for a debut in the $75 million-$80 million range over the long Martin Luther King Jr. weekend, well ahead of expectations.
That would mark the largest opening of all time for the month of January, as well as one of the top grosses ever for a non-tentpole, much less an R-rated, modern-day war film.

Do you always take a smidgeon of a comment and blow it up to cover the universe? Take a look in the mirror.
Even if the guy trashed the movie, so what? People are either going to go see the movie or not. They won’t be influenced by some silly thread here on FR. Give the readers here some credit for thinking and deciding on their own.
Unfortunately the media has portrayed people with these qualities as simpletons for so long when we see a character like this in a movie we automatically assume that this will be the case.
I saw the movie Thursday night and the audience filed out in complete silence with a few tears still being shed.
It seems to be right down the middle. There anti war aspects to it..but those of us who have served in combat know it is hell.
I will go back and see it again when the crowds thin out..there were things I missed since my hearing is marginal. (too many outgoing rounds).
And what is wrong with a redneck good ole boy, may I ask when he is saving your ass.
I understand your frustration. Oftentimes here people will pick up on a tangent of something you say and run with it. It’s annoying.
I also hate badly done accents, especially Southern ones, in movies.
However, due to your post I went to see/listen to the movie trailer and I have to say I don’t hear the same fakeness you do. Granted, the dialog is not long. Maybe I would detect it in the whole movie ... but from the trailer I did not detect the fakeness.
I have a pretty good ear for accents, especially Southern accents. Based on this short trailer I would say if the actor is not native to the region he is pretending to be from, he did a very good job of getting the accent down right. Whether he can hold it steady for the whole movie I’ll have to wait to see the whole thing. Oftentimes, even if actors do a good job with the accent, you’ll hear little slips here and there. That’s doesn’t bother me as much as the whole thing being done poorly.
Orca and her crowd were at the White House for a private showing of Selma, last night. When is the White House showing of American Sniper scheduled?
They don’t deserve to see American Sniper.....I saw it last night and this movie is for patriots only. The White House does not fall into that category.
No joke. Or the "I never watch Fox News it's way too liberal" crowd etc. etc.
I think it's fine (maybe even good for one's health) not to watch television, not to read any publications, never go to a movie.
But why make it a battle cry?
I sincerely hope this picture gets Best Picture(although I doubt it) I love
Eastwood but they WILL snub him NOT a doubt in my mind!!!!!! All WE can really do is put big bucks in Eastwood’s and Kyle’s widows pockets!!!!!
That is if Jesse scumbag Ventura doesn’t take it all!!!!!!
You seek enemies where there are none. I was commenting on the actor, not the subject. If you cannot, refuse to, deal with it that is your problem.
I saw the movie yesterday and didn’t come away with that impression at all. I found him more a gentleman. Of course two random people could watch the same movie and come out with different opinions. However, for this movie, try and trust me and go see the movie. I THINK you will see your immediate impression may have been wrong.
Lars Larsen interviewed Kyle’s father in law on Friday. FIL said Cooper did an amazing job in the role, even got Kyle’s mannerism down.
Ditto.
And also, as you admittedly havent seen the movie, perhaps follow the “if you haven’t got anything good to say, don’t say anything at all” rule of thumb....especially when the mans wife and friends say cooper sounded just like Chris Kyle
You sound like a Class A bigot, putting down Americans with a different accent than your own. There are hundreds of thousands of Southerners and Texans who have defended your freedom. Try to focus on that.
I have never been to a movie where the sold out crowd sat through all of the credits and then filed out silently with no talking. It was that powerful.
Ditto. I found myself unable to talk for at least 15 minutes after the movie.....I have NEVER experienced something like that before especially the crowd in complete silence leaving the movie theater.
Interesting observation without actually observing.
I found that impression to be wrong after actually observing it.

You need to do some research on Chris Kyle like Cooper did.
Same thing when my daughter saw it and when I saw it in separate theaters.
No theme music at the time of the credits.
total packed house dead silent on the way out all the way through the concession area and out of the building.
Even the kids.
Because it is irrelevant and pointing out a negative as against the far more important issues and message of the film, and you criticize without seeing it.
What are your motives, really?
