It’s an idiotic idea all the way through. Its an excuse for PDs/govt agencies to avoid lawsuits and injury arresting actual criminals.

If it is cold and rainy when I walk to the Sak N Pak, I will wear my hoodie. Any law that says I cannot do that is stupid and ridiculous.

“When hoodies are outlawed, only outlaws will have hoodies”

I have yet to see a headline, man killed by hoodie. This is like gun control....control the hoodies and no one will die.

I don’t live around the trash this is intended for and I never will. That trash doesn’t live around me and never will. If I lived around that trash, I might be inclined to like such a rule.

Heck, I can’t think of any time when I have entered a store or any other building with the hood up. I doubt that I ever would..... besides, I am told that I am much more intimidating when people can see my eyes. :>)

I’m glad you don’t either. Didn’t bother to actually read the proposed legislation before posting did you? Dork!

I regretfully turned down a very nice offer at a Boston science consulting group - air pollution, I said.

Nasty white stuff falls out of thin air all winter long - Pollution, I say!

;-)

Ahhh.... Oklahoma is a good place to live. I’ve been here 55 years. Most of it is very conservative. Low cost of living. Decent people. We get some legislators now and then who are a little wacko. I have OU Sooners hoodies, Crested Butte and Winter Park hoodies. I’m pretty sure the legislature is not going to pass this guy’s bill.

Louisiana had a mask ban meant to target the KKK. Has an exception for parades.

"Establishments can enforce dress codes,i.e., no hats, hoodies, masks or sun glasses. That's sufficient."

Yep. Simply expand what already exists -- No shirt, no shoes, no service. Hoodies, masks, or sun glasses, you're tresspassing.

Its your life. If you want to wear a hoodie while committing a crime in Oklahoma. Its just reality. There was also a time in Vietnam that wearing black pajamas could also get you lit up.

Its the national uniform of the Trayvon thug. It is meant to conceal identity. Like a Klan hood, or a bandits bandana. White geezers will probably be ok. This isn’t exactly a new concept in the law.

See #44

I hope they would have more sense than to pass such a silly bill. Criminal minds are the problem, and not what they are wearing. This whole idea suggests that ‘the hoodie made them do it!”

Okay then what are those things called that terrorists wear to conceal their identity? Balaclavas?? Only can see the eyes. So you wear one when it’s bitterly cold and get arrested? Oh, only hoodies - we’re safe. BTW we have several balaclavas in our family.

Read it and weep.. Glad I don’t live in North Carolina

NORTH CAROLINA
While the following sections were enacted primarily as a result of KKK activities, it has been enforced against people wearing other types of masks, such as dust masks and team mascot masks.

§14-12.7. Wearing of masks, hoods, etc., on public ways.
No person or persons at least 16 years of age shall, while wearing any mask, hood or device whereby the person, face or voice is disguised so as to conceal the identity of the wearer, enter, be or appear upon any lane, walkway, alley, street, road, highway or other public way in this State. (1953, c. 1193, s. 6; 1983, c. 175, ss. 1, 10; c. 720, s. 4.)

§14-12.8. Wearing of masks, hoods, etc., on public property.
No person or persons shall in this State, while wearing any mask, hood or device whereby the person, face or voice is disguised so as to conceal the identity of the wearer, enter, or appear upon or within the public property of any municipality or county of the State, or of the State of North Carolina. (1953, c. 1193, s. 7.)

When I first heard about this I thought that’s crazy, but then I read the proposed legislation. It would add a count to crimes commited while wearing a hoodie, which gives DA’s more leverage. It would also give business owners like me the ability to call the police when in danger from someone concealing their identity before they commit the crime. Don’t think it will pass and not even sure I like the idea, but it’s not as stupid as people, who haven’t even read the proposal, are making it sound.

A bandit wearing a mask in a crime has been against the law for 150 years. Its a fixture in the law, nothing new. I guess North Carolina Klansmen would like that law repealed.
