Aumua Amata is our new Delegate to the U.S. House (Republican elected in American Samoa)

Congressional candidate Aumua Amata was yesterday elected to serve as American Samoa’s non-voting Delegate to the U.S. House, unseating longtime incumbent, Congressman Faleomavaega Eni. She is the first woman to be elected to represent American Samoa in the U.S. Congress.

A veteran campaigner for the Delegate seat, Amata, a declared Republican, now joins the majority GOP controlled U.S. House and the U.S. Senate following yesterday’s mid-term elections across the United States.

In yesterday’s election, Amata’s lead began with results from the polling stations in Manu’a, followed by the absentee ballots — which included local and off island ballots as well as Swains Islander voters, whose ballots were counted at the Election Office. Amata has dominated the Manu’a polls in the past several elections.

Of the 45 polling stations — including the Election Office — Amata won in 33 of the polling stations and tied with Faleomavaega at one polling station.

Great news from the Pacific Ocean. If I’m not mistaken, Congresswoman-elect Amata will be the first Republican woman of Polynesian ancestry to serve in Congress. She’s a non-voting delegate, but she can vote in committee and speak on the floor and win is a win and I’m happy to have it.

No. The White House is still in Democrat hands.

I’m not very well versed on some aspects of our history of the states, so I will just come out and ask a question; What do we as a nation gain by having Guam as a territory? Are there minerals there? Is this under the same status as is Puerto Rico, a territory that has repeatedly rejected statehood because it’s to their fiscal advantage?

My guess is we acquired this property during WW2 as it gave us a tactical advantage to fight our wars with Japan and later with Korea. Do the Guamanians see themselves as Americans?

Puerto Rico has its own parties and I don’t know who the “Resident Commissioner” is affiliated with. The Northern Marianias commissioner is an Independent, but he defeated a Democrat, which is a good sign IMHO. The Democrat easily won in the Virgin Islands. In D.C., that liberal shrew Eleanor Norton Holmes comes back, to the surprise of no one.

There are some major military installations there, beyond that, I don’t know.

Guam is more or less American.
Guamanians serve in the US Army, or did when we were stationed overseas.

The GOP achieved a lot of “firsts” in this election. Meanwhile, with the DEMS it was the same old, same old. Even their so-called “fresh faces” got annihilated.

The GOP now holds 66 or 99 state chambers, I read.

We’re in the era of the rural/suburban voters against the city dwellers. The GOP has a message for ALL, the DEMS have nothing to offer for the rural/suburban crowd.

Speaking as someone who draws people for hobby reasons;
that race or ethnicity (Samoan) of people produces big, tall and strong individuals, both men and women. Similar in a way to some of Germanic heritage in the Netherlands, the people are in general tall, and strong, but lanky, and more in proportion than Samoan. Samoan type often appear to be top heavy as adults.

The Pelosi’s can’t be happy about this. Isn’t that where they have a fish canning business?

Yeah, wouldn’t it be nice if they had the local seats swing Republican. I wonder how the people there have been treated by Nan and Co... We can probably guess the answer.

She can join Mia Love and Tom Scott on discussing the GOP war on women and minorities.
