Puerto Rico has its own parties and I don’t know who the “Resident Commissioner” is affiliated with. The Northern Marianias commissioner is an Independent, but he defeated a Democrat, which is a good sign IMHO. The Democrat easily won in the Virgin Islands. In D.C., that liberal shrew Eleanor Norton Holmes comes back, to the surprise of no one.

PR’s Resident Commissioner was re-elected to a 4-year term in 2012. His name is Pedro Pierluisi, a member of the pro-statehood New Progressive Party, and he’s a Democrat in national politics. He was hand-picked for the position by his predecessor (and fellow NPP member), Luis Fortuño, who is a Republican in national politics and was elected governor in 2008 but narrowly lost reelection in 2012.

The NMI Delegate is a Democrat who ran as an “Independent.” There was no GOP candidate, which was odd.
