RAND PAUL TO CALIFORNIA REPUBLICANS: EVOLVE, ADAPT, OR DIE
Breitbart ^ | April 6, 2014 | GOP-e Sen. Rand Paul

Posted on 04/06/2014 5:43:23 PM PDT by Jim Robinson

Evolve, adapt or die. That is the fate of our current Republican party. We must evolve as a party and find a way to attract millennials to the conservative movement or we will never succeed in realizing our ideals of individual freedom and freedom from government interference.

Initially, I received criticism from political pundits for speaking to non-traditional audiences. I was told it was a waste of time to reach out to these audiences, specifically students from both Howard University and University of California, Berkeley.

My response is this: I have never been one to watch the world go by without participating. I wake up each day hoping to make a difference.

You might be a Republican, Democrat or Independent. I speak before these audiences, not to preach or prescribe some special formula.

My intention is not to tell you what to be. You are more important than any political party or partisan pleadings. My intention is to motivate all Americans and defend their rights.

My hope is that in discussing these topics, more Americans will be open to the conservative message. A message that favors choice in education, a less aggressive foreign policy, more compassion regarding non-violent crime and encourages opportunity in employment.

As a conservative [*cough, *cough] politician, it is clear to me that we must start discussing these topics more with audiences that might not normally hear our message--specifically young adults and students.

Preaching to the choir is not working for the conservative movement. We are growing stale and moss-covered. We must evolve, adapt or die.

Here’s the rest. Maybe some context helps show what he was trying to get at.

I was pleased, but not surprised, by my reception at UC-Berkeley. They, like me, think we’ve been too lax in giving up our privacy. Our government is interested in what books we read. They’re interested in what we say in our phone calls. They’re interested in what we write in our emails.

We now know that the National Security Agency is collecting the phone records of all Americans.

But some say, it’s only records held anonymously and only rarely accessed. What’s your beef?

What they rarely mention is that they don’t believe any of your records have Fourth Amendment protection.

When they say it’s only boring old business records, think of what information is recorded on your Visa bill. From your bill, the government can tell whether you drink or smoke and how much, whether your gamble, what books or magazines you read. Whether you see a psychiatrist or what medications you take.

I oppose this abuse of power with every ounce of energy I have. I believe you have a right to privacy.

I believe no government should ever access your records without a judge’s warrant. I believe the majority of Americans agree with me.

The question before us is: Will we live as free men and women or will we cower and give up our liberty? I, for one, will fight on because I believe that your rights are inalienable, inseparable and inextinguishable. More conservatives need to proudly stand up and protect the Bill of Rights.

I am certain the influential writers at Breitbart California will stand with me and continue to introduce a more tolerant view of American politics and a view that will attract new members to our movement.

Together, we will continue to grow the conservative movement. Breitbart California will only help our party evolve, not die.

Or the right could use the same time honored and effective Alinsky tactics routinely employed by the domestic communists against the Democrats.

The current RNC and GOP leadership are the problem and will never be the solution.

Purge them.

For a creationist he’s adopted an awfully Darwinian slant on things. It could be clumsy verbiage, but it’s very understandable how this is going to rub conventional conservatives the wrong way.

I've long distrusted the older Paul but had some faint glimmer of hope for his son. Well, that's long gone. His pro-dope stance, softness on the border issue and waffling when it comes to sodomy all make him a no-go in my book. And, yes, being so comfortable with Darwin's lexicon is just another reason why Rand Paul is totally out of consideration for me.

I increasingly have come to conclude that the "lib" in libertarian comes not from "liberty" but "liberal".

On “dope” issues, nobody’s picture is complete without asking why America felt it necessary to ban something that was wide open through the 1800’s. I see scapegoating here. Even the bible says that is the wrong approach.

I heard a very similar rant by my liberal-Democrat opponent during my first successful run at elective office here in CA. "Bend or Break, Change or Die!"

The liberal sympathizers even made a docu-drama about the magnatude of his loss which I really enjoyed attending!!!

Talk about your "weeping and wailing and gnashing of teeth!"

Now I ask you… What's wrong with Rand Paul and his father that they seem to blurt out some of the most liberal/politically tone deaf stuff at the most inopportune times???

Libertarians get somehow lumped in with conservatives and Tea Party types even though about a third of the time they talk like lefties!!! It just doesn't make any sense!!!

I agree with what President Ronald Reagan and his wonderful wife, Nancy, had to say about drugs. President Reagan's First Lady made it clear that Americans should be "unyielding and inflexible in your opposition to drugs". I concur completely. I don't want to bother dear onyx with a ping since she's got way too much to deal with now, but her thoughts in this thread are shared by me.

Ted Cruz endorsed John Cornyn.

You are freakin’ nuts dude. I live in Texas. I worked the GOP Primary we had on March 4th very extensively. Ted Cruz ENDORSED NO ONE in the Primary. Either you are freakin’ stupid or you’re a lying troll just trying to discredit a great Conservative like Ted Cruz. Which is it? You’ve been on FR since 2000. How has a Democrat Underground, lying punk like you lasted on here that long?

If the GOP ditches the traditional conservative platform and goes for this evolutionary squishy liberaltarian pap, I’m OUT!!

If? They already have, and I'm already out.

RAND PAUL TO CALIFORNIA REPUBLICANS: EVOLVE, ADAPT, OR DIE

Sorry, Rand, you moron, but my view of the topic is I prefer New Hampshire's Official State Motto.

Taking the "easy" path is only typical of subjects and slaves.

I should have said “officially” ditch the traditional conservative platform. Some of them definitely are pushing to evolve and adapt and it is evolving... and dying.

Din Maker,

It would be easy to come back and attack you but it wouldn’t be very constructive. Comments like .....

- You are freakin’ nuts dude.

- Either you are freakin’ stupid, boycott, ....

- You’ve been on FR since 2000. How has a Democrat Underground, lying punk like you lasted on here that long?

I believe a quick review of my posting history would likely show that I am not a member of the “Democrat Underground.”

What I posted about Cruz is TRUE. Yeah, I know the situation was different but Cruz didn’t have to endorse anyone. He did.

It’s okay to disagree but I believe you should make an effort to show a little more class. Name calling everyone that doesn’t agree with 100% of your opinions isn’t going to attract more people to the party.

I’ll add that I wouldn’t include “All” to my post if you hadn’t directed your attack at me to “All.”

Translation: Buy stock in companies that make white flags.

To say we have “to attract” those voters is nothing but another way to say “pander to”.

If the principles you believe in aren’t enough or you don’t espouse them you have none to begin with. Got that Paul?

Din Maker,

You’ve only been on FR since Oct 29, 2013 and you called me out like that? Yes, I’ve been here since 2000. In all the years I’ve been on FR, I’ve never had anyone attack me like that. It’s okay to disagree but to attack someone as you did is totally unnecessary.

FR is truly one of the greatest places on the Internet — a lot of great people, interesting articles, and points of view. I agree with posters on this site most of the time but I always try to keep my disagreements civil. I will ask that you do the same.

A politician is a creature of habit. They favor the status quo because it empowers them. They always become corrupted to the end result, which is control and tyranny. Only when the masses rise up in revolt will they realize their failings..and it always ends up in bloodshed. A politician is like a weather vane..pointing in the direction the wind blows, for their own grand delusions.
They will say and do anything to keep position.
