On December 16, 2007, supporters of Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul broke the all time fundraising record by raising $6 million in a single day, holding tea parties throughout the USA to protest an oppressive government. The sentiment spread like a flame of liberty across the entire country, as more people became aware of the dangers government control poses to their lives, liberty and property. Millions of people from all political backgrounds now participate in local tea parties, and are proving too volatile to channel into supporting politics as usual, causing headaches for politicians of both parties who would ignore...

One of Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke's biggest critics said that he deserves Time magazine's "Person of the Year" award bestowed to him on Wednesday. Rep. Ron Paul (R-Texas), one of Bernanke's greatest critic, said that the award is fitting because Bernanke is the "most powerful man in the world." MSNBC's Joe Scarborough said that Paul had admitted off camera that Bernanke deserved the award because of his economic power. Paul replied "He is. He is the most powerful man in the world. I believe a case can be made for that... He controls the supply of money, which is...

The financial reform bill working its way through the House of Representatives, that includes Ron Paul's "Audit the Fed" provision, has gotten so morphed and horrific that Ron Paul is not even going to vote for it. The evil bastards have added an amendment to the Bill that will allow the Fed to pump any amounts of money it so chooses to "financial holding" companies deemed TBTF, without approval from anyone. William Greider explains: The sales pitch for financial-reform legislation pending in the House claims it would put a stop to “too big to fail” bailouts for the leading banks....

As the U.S prepares to send more troops to the war in Afghanistan, Barack Obama’s in Norway to receive his Nobel Peace Prize, awarded in October. The Nobel Committee said it wanted to praise Obama’s efforts to strengthen diplomacy and co-operation between nations. But for many, the 44th U.S. president was a surprise choice. Republican Congressman Ron Paul says Obama’s recent war plans show he shouldn’t have been awarded the peace prize.

If anyone still doubted that this administration’s foreign policy would bring any kind of change, this week’s debate on Afghanistan should remove all doubt. The President’s stated justifications for sending more troops to Afghanistan and escalating war amount to little more than recycling all the false reasons we began the conflict. It is so discouraging to see this coming from our new leadership, when the people were hoping for peace. New polls show that 49 percent of the people favor minding our own business on the world stage, up from 30 percent in 2002. Perpetual war is not solving anything....

As a former conservative turned free-market libertarian, I have always been intrigued by Ron Paul's strong advocacy for the free market. After all, conservatives claim to stand on the same principles. So, I found it quite odd during the Republican presidential debates of 2008 when all of the other candidates actually had answers for how they would better "run" the economy. Having lived in Russia, China, and Europe, each candidate's answer scared me to death. Had they somehow missed the memo about how planning economies doesn't work, has never worked, and never will work? Cold War, anybody? The proper answer...

Y'all, this primary for the Kentucky Senate race is just amazing...never a dull moment, that's for sure! Here's a little breakdown for those of you who aren't up to speed. I have written previously about Dr. Rand Paul, there's Kentucky Secretary of State, Trey Grayson, Bill Johnson (who is endorsed by Dr. Alan Keyes, no less!), and a host of others, all in contention for the Republican slot on the ballot. To say there's a lot of politicking going on is the understatement of the year.

Today the house finance committee passed what will surely be a historic amendment 43-26. This a very straight forward amendment, allow the Federal Reserve to be audited without question. One would think that such a simple request should pass without objection, right? After all, why would we want a highly political organization such as the Federal Reserve possibly hide anything from the American Public? Congress created the Fed and Congress can destroy the Fed (technically speaking). Examine who voted to maintain the status quo and against auditing the engine of inflation, credit and virtually every single recession including the Great...

The House Financial Services Committee has approved Rep. Ron Paul’s measure to drastically expand the government’s power to audit the Federal Reserve. The measure, based on a Paul proposal that has attracted more than 300 co-sponsors, passed, 43-26, as an amendment to a financial reform bill. Florida Democrat and fellow Fed critic Alan Grayson co-sponsored the amendment with Paul and played a leading role drumming up support for it among committee members. The adoption of this amendment is an extraordinary victory for Paul, whose libertarian, anti-Fed leanings have often been dismissed by the political establishment.

For nearly a century the Federal Reserve has operated in the shadows, away from the prying eyes of Congress, journalists and the American people. Created in 1913, the Fed was given enormous responsibility to protect the value of our currency. Yet in the last 96 years the U.S. dollar has lost more than 95% of its purchasing power. The Fed's unprecedented actions over the past year in attempting to stabilize the financial system have now forced it into the spotlight, and caused millions of people around the country to question the opacity of the Fed's financial transactions. While the Fed...

It's hard to imagine a Republican more useless than South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham. Whether he's spearheading legislation that would grant amnesty to millions of illegal aliens, stumping for the $787 billion taxpayer robbery known as TARP, being the lone GOP committee member to confirm liberal Supreme Court justice Sonia Sotomayor, or partnering with John Kerry to promote cap-and-trade, Graham has never been a friend to conservatives. And yet in 2008, Graham was reelected in the deeply red state of South Carolina over a Democratic candidate, Bob Conley, who staunchly opposed amnesty and TARP and was well to the right...

There are a handful of political poisons that conservatives fall victim to swallowing that inevitably lead to "death" at the polls. I could talk about the lack of political fortitude (call it like it is), or even the inability, to articulate a clear and concise message to the people in a world where cryptic political double-speak is considered graceful, but for today, the focus is placed on the importance of who should be, and who should not be, allowed to walk under the banner of the Conservative Movement. Liberals always hate the analogy, "birds of a feather flock together," because...

Josh Kraushaar catches a surprising poll in the 2010 primary for U.S. Senate in Kentucky. In the GOP race, Rand Paul, the son of Rep. Ron Paul (R-Texas) and a first-time candidate, has jumped out to a small lead over Secretary of State Trey Grayson. The trends: Rand Paul – 35 (+9)Trey Grayson – 32 (-4) Paul has an eight-point lead among “conservative” voters who make up about 70 percent of the GOP primary electorate.

The Republican party in Kentucky has never seen anything like it. Bowling Green eye doctor Rand Paul has no political experience, but with the support of the same people who backed his Dad - Texas Congressman Ron Paul when he ran for president,, Rand Paul has now at least pulled even with Secretary of State Trey Grayon in the GOP U.S. Senate primary. 32% Grayson 35% Paul 2% Johnson 1% Oerther 3% Thoney 10% Other 18% Undecided In fact, the WHAS11/Survey USA poll has Paul ahead of Grayson by three percentage points - with a 4.1 percent margin of error....

Any number of pundits claim that we have now passed the worst of the recession. Green shoots of recovery are supposedly popping up all around the country, and the economy is expected to resume growing soon at an annual rate of 3% to 4%. Many of these are the same people who insisted that the economy would continue growing last year, even while it was clear that we were already in the beginning stages of a recession. A false recovery is under way. I am reminded of the outlook in 1930, when the experts were certain that the worst of...

Rep. Ron Paul, R-Texas, has complained that the bill he sponsored calling for an audit of the Federal Reserve has been "gutted" by congressional committee, pointing specifically to a legislator whose campaign coffers have been boosted by the banking industry. As WND reported, Paul sponsored H.R. 1207, a bill requiring the Federal Reserve – an organization that's independent from the U.S. government but nonetheless oversees U.S. monetary policy – be opened to oversight by Congress. The plan compiled over 300 co-sponsors in the House before being sent to committee. But in a telephone interview with a Bloomberg reporter, Paul said...

As critics continue to mull over whether President Obama deserved the Nobel Peace Prize, Rep. Ginny Brown-Waite says the U.S. Constitution does not allow him to accept the award without the consent of Congress. In a letter to Obama delivered on Monday, Brown-Waite, R-Fla., along with Rep. Cliff Stearns, R-Fla., and Rep. Ron Paul, R-Texas, claim the president is obligated under the Constitution to obtain Congress' approval before he formally accepts the prize. Article I, Section 9, of the Constitution, the emolument clause, states: "And no person holding any office of profit or trust under them, shall, without the consent...

Will Ron Paul give it another go in 2012? The Texas congressman and hero of limited government advocates will visit the key early primary state of South Carolina on Nov. 9 to deliver a speech "on the future of individual liberty and the importance of the U.S. Constitution" at the University of South Carolina, student groups said Tuesday. The announcement comes a week after Paul scheduled a visit to Iowa on Nov. 13 to speak to students at Iowa State University.

During an appearance on the Neil Cavuto show, Mike Huckabee said he would not make an endorsement in the NY-23 special election -- and then proceeded to profusely praise Conservative Party candidate Doug Hoffman, and say he could never support a pro-choice candidate (which so happens to be the case for the GOP's nominee, Dede Scozzafava). "Certainly his views represent more closely to mine," said Huckabee. "I'm not taking a role in that with my PAC, simply because I feel like it would be inappropriate with me at this point -- mainly because I'm already speaking to the Conservative Party...

Bill Johnson: Rand and Ron Paul's Positions on Abortion "Worse Than Blackmun" Bill Johnson, candidate for US Senate in Kentucky, offers the following statement via email regarding Rand and Ron Paul's position on abortion and other issues: If the Pauls are willing to allow the States to deny due process for the unborn (whom they agree are persons), then the states can deny due process for the elderly, the sick, or anyone for that matter. Why not allow the states to legalize slavery, take away our gun rights, or remove free speech? Why not let the states decide on all...

St. Paul’s place in the Church has been a bone of contention ever since he was knocked off his horse by our Lord on the way to Damascus. He was a mass of paradoxes that seemed (to those who did not understand him) a mass of foolish contradictions. He loved Christ above all and was not infrequently named an enemy of God.He was all things to all and yet had a determined circle of enemies who regarded him as a two-faced phony. He labored to present the truth to wildly different audiences in terms they could understand, only to be suspected of...

Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin fired a shot at the Federal Reserve in her coming-out speech in Hong Kong today, blaming the central bank for the current crisis and disagreeing with the idea that the Fed should have a greater role in preventing the next crisis. It was an echo of fellow Republican and Texas congressman Ron Paul, who has led the charge in Congress to perform an audit of the Federal Reserve with an eye to eventually eliminating it. “How can we discuss reform without addressing the government policies at the root of the problems? The root of the...

A day after former Baptist minister and likely presidential rival Mike Huckabee offered a withering critique of Mitt Romney's record, the former Massachusetts governor made his pitch to the same group of religious conservatives. Romney appealed to attendees at the Values Voter Summit in Washington on Saturday, using a speech that drew heavily from his address to social conservatives at the same hotel earlier this year. "Putting such a spirit-crushing, back-breaking debt burden on our children is unworthy of our national character," he said. "That is why I believe that this spending and borrowing is not just economically irresponsible, it...

I received lots of comments and mail about an entry here Thursday relating Ron Paul to Sarah Palin in a political atmosphere where 43 percent consider themselves independents. Many were from Paul supporters who didn’t like the connection. Others did. Glen, who says he has supported Paul for 20 years and Palin for one possibly got closest to the current reality: “I think Palin and Paul have a lot in common,” he wrote. “They are both libertarians, but they come to it from different approaches. Paul is an erudite scholar on both economics and foreign policy. Palin comes at it...

By my estimation (purely anecdotal), Rand Paul is second only to Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell among Kentucky politicians getting national press. McConnell is the highest ranking Republican in the country. Paul is a Bowling Green ophthamologist (who also happens to be the son of a cult hero Congressman). Rand Paul is scheduled to be on C-SPAN's Washington Journal on Wednesday, 9/16 at 9AM ET and MSNBC's Morning Joe on Thursday, 9/17 at 7:15 AM ET. Wednesday afternoon he will meet with the fiscal conservative thinktank, Club for Growth.

The 2008 presidential campaign may be over, but the "revolution" spawned by Rep. Ron Paul's candidacy continues to echo through the political world. Paul (R-Tex.), capitalizing on a healthy distrust of government and his strident opposition to the war in Iraq, became an Internet phenomenon -- using the Web to raise an astounding $35 million for his long-shot candidacy. The financial network Paul built during his campaign has, amazingly, continued to reap dividends for two men seeking to be the congressman's political heirs in the 2010 elections. Rand Paul, who is running for the Senate in Kentucky and is the...

Former presidential candidate Ron Paul will join U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann, R-Minn., at a student town hall meeting Sept. 25 at the University of Minnesota. The topic of the meeting, which begins at 7 p.m. in Northrup Auditorium, is “Monetary Reform, Limited Government and Free Market Economics.” The event is being sponsored by the Republican Party of Minnesota, the Minneapolis City Republican Committee, College Republicans, Students for a Conservative Voice and the Minnesota Campaign for Liberty. The meeting is free and open to the public.

The event, hosted by Young Americans for Liberty, will be held Sept. 25 at Northrop Auditorium on the campus of the University of Minnesota. Organizers said Bachmann and Paul will discuss "monetary reform, limited government and free market economics" and that their appearance is designed to counter "President Obama's health care proposal, bailout mania and the rapid rise of government control and spending." Bachmann, who is in her second term representing Minnesota's Sixth Congressional District, has attained a national profile as a conservative spokeswoman as a result of her regular appearances on cable television. Paul, of Texas, attained a similar...

If Republicans thought their headaches in the Kentucky Senate race were over when Sen. Jim Bunning (R-Ky.) announced his retirement, they were wrong. Rand Paul, the son of former presidential candidate and Texas GOP Rep. Ron Paul, has crashed the party for Kentucky Secretary of State Trey Grayson, who is widely regarded as the establishment pick to succeed the 77-year-old Bunning. While Paul, an ophthalmologist, is a long shot, his presence in the contest all but guarantees that Grayson will be embroiled in an expensive and potentially damaging primary contest. It’s not the scenario the GOP was hoping for. Party...

There seems to be some confusion in the Debra Medina for governor campaign on the definition of "support." An earlier version of this story reported that Medina's campaign announced Wednesday that Rep. Ron Paul is backing her. The campaign plugged a letter written by Paul in which he calls Medina a "real defender of liberty." But I just got a call from Jesse Benton, who said he's media director for Paul's congressional reelection campaign and the political director to Paul's political action committee, Liberty PAC. He said the letter is not an endorsement for Medina's campaign at all. Paul has...

The Pro-life Debate Between Bill Johnson and Rand Paul-- 10:10am, EST 9.02.09Press release from Bill Johnson's Senate Campaign... The Bill Johnson for U.S. Senate Campaign continues to run a low cost and fiscally responsible campaign. Rand Paul, a doctor, and Trey Grayson, a lawyer, are engaged in a battle about who can raise and spend the most money in a primary campaign. This conflict is typical Capitol Hill politics where tax and spend is the norm. How much money is enough? Instead of focusing on bank accounts, Johnson is concerned about Mr. Paul’s position on abortion as stated at the...

If a presidential election were held last night on the campus of Loyola University New Orleans, the winner would not have been the 48 year old occupant of the White House, but a spry 74 year old physician from Texas. U..S. Congressman Ron Paul (R-TX) enthralled a huge crowd of supporters and students with a one hour address on topics ranging from the war in Afghanistan to the Federal Reserve. The crowd was so large that the university set up five overflow rooms to accommodate the intense interest in Dr. Paul’s message.

FRANKFORT — Republican U.S. Senate candidate Rand Paul and a mysterious supporter are attempting to paint GOP front-runner Trey Grayson as a Washington, D.C., insider. Supporter Josh Manuel, whom Paul Campaign Manager David Adams said he doesn't know, has launched a Web site promoting a "Kentucky Fight" between Paul and Grayson on Sept. 23. The site, titled "Rand 'We the People' vs. Trey 'The DC Insiders,'" notes that 23 Republican U.S. senators, including Kentucky's Mitch McConnell, are to hold a $500-per-plate fund-raiser for Grayson's 2010 U.S. Senate campaign in Washington on Sept. 23. "This deck stacking favoritism in a highly...

U.S. Senate candidate Rand Paul on Monday pledged not to accept campaign contributions from any U.S. Senator who voted for the bank bailout and challenged his opponents to follow suit. Dr. Paul issued this challenge after learning that Trey Grayson has scheduled a Washington D.C. fundraiser co-sponsored by several U.S. Senators, seventeen of whom voted for the so-called TARP bailout in 2008, which was then used to fund an auto industry bailout Congress rejected. "This isn't about holding politicians to an impossibly high standard of agreeing with everything one's supporters say or do," Paul said. "But a primary focus of...

Rep. Barney Frank endorses measure to audit the Federal Reserve that has won hundreds of co-sponsors on both sides of the aisle since it was introduced in late February by Rep. Ron Paul. Rep. Barney Frank, the chairman of the House Financial Services Committee, has endorsed a bill calling for an audit of the Federal Reserve. The support from the powerful Massachusetts Democrat comes after the measure, introduced in late February by Rep. Ron Paul, has won hundreds of co-sponsors on both sides of the aisle. House Financial Services Chairman Barney Frank (D-Mass.) says he's negotiating with Rep. Ron Paul (R-Tx.) to create mandatory audits of the Federal Reserve -- and that some kind of audit bill will pass the House in October as part of a bigger financial overhaul package. Frank, who supports Ben Bernanke's re-appointment as Fed chairman, is walking a tightrope between supporting the administration and heeding the broad, bipartisan support for the Fed audit bill, which has 282 co-sponsors.

The money bomb is back. Borrowing a page from his father’s playbook, Republican Senate candidate Rand Paul of Kentucky raked in more than $430,000 during a Thursday Internet-based fundraising drive. Republican U.S. Senate candidate Rand Paul, a Bowling Green eye surgeon, assailed President Barack Obama’s proposed health insurance overhaul on The Glenn Beck Show on FOX News Friday. Among other things, Paul predicted that Obama’s plan would cause the demise of grandmothers, whom the government would decide are too expensive to provide medical treatment. “Some committee is going to decide what is the cost-benefit analysis for grandma,” Paul said. “Grandma is not just your grandmother; she’s a statistic and we have to decide what is the cost to society to keep her alive,” he said. “And I think she won’t...

Much has been made of the New Hampshire man, William Kostric, who showed up outside President Obama’s health care speech in Portsmouth Tuesday with a loaded gun strapped to his leg and a sign calling for the blood of tyrants. Last night, Rep. Ron Paul (R-Texas) weighed in on the episode, telling MSNBC’s Ed Schultz that Kostric “was just, you know, practicing a right that he had.” What this demonstrates is that it’s — it’s the old conservative argument. It’s not the gun that’s the danger. It’s the person that’s dangerous. He’s a peaceful person. He obeyed the law. He...

Peter Schiff, the libertarian economist and investor who’s launched a dark-horse bid for the U.S. Senate seat currently held by Sen. Chris Dodd (D-Conn.), is raking in cash from a Ron Paul-endorsed, 2007-style “moneybomb.” As of 3:30, Schiff supporters had raised more than $100,000 today for the candidate at Schiffathon.com, giving him more than $550,000 in campaign cash since entering the race in mid-July with the aim of raking in $750,000 by day’s end. By comparison, former Rep. Rob Simmons (R-Conn.), the front-runner for the GOP nomination, raised $753,000 from April through June.
