With the announcement of the indefinite suspension of nuclear refueling of the aircraft carrier USS Lincoln, the White House has signaled a new shift in naval technology - away from costly and potentially hazardous fossil fuels, towards non-toxic and environmentally stable wind power.
Not letting Republican obstructionism of the budget process go to waste, President Obama's national defense team is putting together a plan to retrofit US warship with 'tried-and-true' sails, taking advantage of free, naturally occurring wind rather than diesel and nuclear fuels that put crews at constant risk of causing an ecological disaster.

LOL! Wouldn’t surprise me one bit. Correction, though.. The sails would be pink or rainbow striped.
No frigging in the rigging!...........
lol
They’re already destroying a perfectly good $250 million mine warfare ship in the Philippines to save a coral reef, so this isn’t much of a stretch.
So are the F-18s going to have to depart from under the bottom of the sails? :-)
Interesting pic but....that amount of square yardage would be nowhere enough to move a 90,000 ton CV. Unless there was a hurricane providing a tail wind.
The People’s Cube is a conservative satire site.
Note the jets along the PORT side, mostly facing the bow. They will spin up and provide an amount of aft thrust, helping to move the carrier.
I watched the same process assist in docking the U.S.S. MIDWAY in Yokusuka harbor in 1955. Noisy as hell, but it was a big help to the tugs.
Also lots of room down below for Ben Hur and the other convict oarsmen.
Who cares if it moves, all that matters is that we feel good about it.
Wonder what happens when It’s time to launch the fA-18’s. Turn into the wind????
Instead of wind power, they might use underwater sails and tach to the current! At least the submariners would have a fun time trying it. /s
Are you kidding? They're sail-powered, too.
So would the catapult be solar power with a magnetic rail gun mechanism?
How long do you think it would take the lookout watch to climb up to the crow nest on main sail?
Imagine what the view would be up there.
Oops ... silly me. Wasn't thinking.
But laughing uproariously at the visual of a sail-powered F-18.
