Fresh off his "climate disruption"-driven endorsement of President Obama, New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg has chosen to divert critical food supplies and power generators from desperate residents of Staten Island to Sunday's New York City Marathon...

He has to keep up the facade of normalcy in NY after obama stepped in and miraculously saved the city. Showing how the people in Staten Island are suffering would tarnish that image. Also heard last night that the Red Cross is ignoring Staten Island and is focusing most of it’s help for wealthy neighborhoods.
I can’t believe it!!??
What’s the big deal? Plenty of dumpsters on Staten Island.
“And just FYI in 2008 Staten Island went for McCain/Palin and has a Republican Borough President.”
Which is why Bloomberg is diong this. For people like Nurse Bloomberg and The Won, it is not enough to reward those that support you. You must also punish those who do not.
“Nice...the marathon starts on the Staten Island side of the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge.”

This is really unbelievable. I was watching the U.S. stations last night; people in Staten Island seemed absolutely desperate.
How is it they can clear the streets for a 26+ mile race but can’t seem to do it to get help to people in dire straights?
NJ is turning away utility workers from Alabama cause they are non union.

Yep...I am quickly running out of sympathy for these northeast coast progs.
Why should NYC, an island, care about Staten Island, an island?
From what I’ve been reading Staten Island is a GOP stronghold. Probably the only one in NYC. You may want to rethink your smugness. Conservatives get in trouble, too.
Do those of us who did NOT vote for Obama get what we deserved?
Bloomberg is an unmitigated a******.
This is why we need to develop conservative ‘rats. Only a ‘rat has a chance of winning against him and of all of the politicians I can think of besides hussein, he is the one who needs to go the most.
“The people of NYC get the government they deserve.”
Some do. Not all. Not even most. Not everyone is as well educated or enlightened as the average FReeper. Most people don’t care about politics and only give it limited thought.
They’re suffering in NYC and environs and there’s really no reason for it. They’ve gotten their lesson. It’s time for compassion.
I don’t know the entry fee but right now the folks need food not money if they can’t get gas and don’t have power.
Twitter #LetThemEatMarathon
People who secured hotel rooms before being hit by the hurricane are now being dumped out of their rooms for the 40,000 +++ runners & supporters of the marathon.
They have nowhere to go & they are pissed!!!
How’s that working for you, letting Bloomberg change the term limit laws & run for another term???
“Bloomers” is full of crap
One runner did put out this statement.
“I cannot start a 26.2 mile run in Staten Islandpeople are missing, stranded, in need of resources. Brooklyn and Queens have equal devastation. Parts of Manhattan are without electricity, water, major hospitals are closed. The Bronx too has its own challenges. Today I will volunteer at a city evacuation shelter. Sunday morning I will catch the marathon bus to Staten Island. Not planning to run. Plan to volunteer instead and gather resources (extra clothes, bottles of water, food from runners at the start). Let’s not waste resources and attention on a foot race. Who is with me?”

They stopped the Staten Island Ferry. Not nearly as easy for these folks to get to food and water as it is for those in the other boroughs. Clever move, Bloomberg. I can just imagine how stranded and helpless and angry these people must feel.
Part of the problem is that there are not very many New Yorkers in the Marathon. Most of the runners are from other states and other countries. They don’t really care about us. If they had any heart, they would not participate.
I would help in this effort.
