Bloomberg KNOWS that the ONE is to use the old March Madness saying is “one and DONE.”

Look for the police to quit en masse out of protest to Bloomberg.

Bloomie thinks the Marathon will bolster New Yorkers’ flagging spirits and therefore is as vital as food and fuel.

Here’s an idea: Everyone who wants to run in the marathon must bring a donation of a box of food and a blanket. Maybe toss in bottled water too.
That way the marathon could serve some useful purpose.

Oh goody! a marathon!
It’s so nice of bloomberg to bring in entertainment for all those who do not have electricity, are homeless.

Will those marathoners be distributing food to the people?
It’s a good thing police will be there because the runners may be mugged for their water.

I wonder how many people will change their minds at the last minute and vote for Romney?

Since liberals like protesters so much, I’m sure Bloomberg would love it if a few thousand people blocked the route at several points with a mass protests. Think of the mess and liability there would be for the organization that profits from this race.

Maybe in the future, we will have a new New York City Marathon; one where the participants carry a gas can across the city...

Doesn't seem like much considering the entry fee is hundreds..or..thousands...of dollars? Anyone know? It is not a matter of a few dollars.

As already reported down thread, the NYC Marathon starts at the Staten Island side of the Verrazzano Narrows Bridge.

But not to worry ING and other race sponsers offer the following once Staten Island is left behind:

Fluids and Food

Poland Spring® Brand 100% Natural Spring Water will be available at the start and at official fluid stations every mile beginning at mile 3.

Gatorade® G Series Pro Endurance Formula? will be available at official fluid stations every mile beginning at mile 3 except at mile 17.

Fluids will be dispensed in recyclable cups. There will be tables on both sides of the course. To avoid the bottleneck at the first table, get a cup from a later table. Please keep moving after you pick up your cup.

The Poland Spring® Hydration Zone?including water stations, sponges, and music?will be located at mile 17 on First Avenue.

At the PowerGel Energy Zone at mile 18, assorted PowerGels (Vanilla, Chocolate, Strawberry-Banana, Raspberry Cream, Double Latte, Tangerine) will help you hurdle ?the wall? and energize you to the finish.

Fruit will be available at the fluid stations at miles 20?23.

For your safety, take fluids and food only at official stations.

Toilets

Portable toilets (including wheelchair-accessible ones) will be located every mile beginning at mile 3.

Entertainment/Cheering Zones

More than 130 bands and entertainment zones along the course will motivate and entertain runners and spectators alike. An interactive map of bands and entertainment zone locations and details will be posted in late October.

ING and other sponsors will host cheering zones along the course for spectators. Cheering zones will feature spectator amenities such as sign-making supplies, fun giveaways, and DJs.

______________________

Oh, I forgot to mention the medical stations all along the course.

For more entertainment info go to the ING NYC Marathon site.

As a final ironic note, it was announced today that the director of the “Hunger Games” movie will direct all future novies of the trilogy.

You just can’t make this stuff up.

Fresh off his "climate disruption"-driven endorsement of President Obama, New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg...

I wonder if Bloomberg made the endorsement while flying on his gas-guzzling private jet to his energy sucking mega-mansion in Bermuda.

$250 is the entry fee. It was mentioned in the “Charlotte Observer” article.

My experience of runners is that they are desperately self-centered, but that’s a small, local sample. Maybe there will be some helpful efforts made by the participants.

Thank you for the info. I’m a little surprised there isn’t a range of classes...pro, amateur, novice, etc., with differing entry fees, but I guess it is by invitation only?

Nationally- and internationally-ranked elite marathoners get invitations to big events like this, and I believe they are paid to participate, rather than having to pay, because their attendance generates media attention for the city and the advertisers.

I don’t know if regular participants at New York get in first-come, first-in (by computer, these days, like getting concert tickets) or if there’s a lottery. Organizers of heavily-attended marathons use both systems.
