I once knew a beautiful wife of a full-bird colonel who was extremely polished. She had come from the old "wrong side of the tracks," but she had taken great pains to overcome any outward remnant of this. She was amazing. I did see, however, her become entirely agitated at one point: At this point she lost all of her polish and reverted to a display of her unfortunate upbringing.
