It's fairly obvious from the tone of your response that you completely agreed with the arguement presented in the URL you posted. Your ready access to the URL (highlighted by the speed with which you posted it) also gives it away. It was after all the 3rd response to a post that was only two minutes old.

IF I think a third party candidate has a legitimate shot at winning and best espouses my views, then I would vote for that person. However, viability is my first concern.

Thing is here in MN nobody saw it coming (Ventura winning) until it was over so that may be hard to forecast.

In any case GOP backers are in a tight spot because I think the GOP is gambling that people will vote just like you. In my opinion, politcians do not care what we think.

Way too much assuming going on here. Let's get back to debating the merits of what strategy is best, maintaining a majority or teaching a lesson.

We can risk losing the Senate in order to send the message. My personal opinion is that we should strengthen the position in the House and allow the position in the Senate to be weakened by ridding it of a few RINO's.

The message would be two fold. We will support the hardline conservative positions taken by those in the House but we shun the leftist leanings of the RINO's in the Senate.

A clearer message could not be sent to the GOP if it tattooed on the backs of their hands.

There is another side to this HOPE!!

What if the GOP, seeing the Dems SWEEP into power after the mid-terms, believe this to be a MANDATE that the nation is turning LEFT!

I don't see why it is a LOCK that the GOP will see the error of their ways.

That being said the idea of having......

1. "CONYERS" launch investigations up the wazoo and leading the impeachment of the POTUS during a time of war
2. Commissioning a SLAVE reparations study further denigrating the United States.
3. "PELOSI" running rough shod over the House pushing a Marxist agenda.
4. The nightmare of Rangel in charge of Ways and Means.
5. Not a single conservatives appointed to the bench during the remaining two years.

This is more than a bad dream......but just as likely as the GOP getting the WORD by LOSING congress.......this could be the beginning of the end of our REPUBLIC.

It wouldn't be neccessary to completely lose the majority in order to send the proper message to the GOP.

Anyone who followed the last month of that campaign knew that Ventura was a legitimate candidate. Not many people (myself included) thought he would actually win, but you had to speculate he would get over 25% of the vote (my personal benchmark for viability in a three person race).

Back to discussing strategy and the issue at hand.... In a lot of races, you don't have a conservative third party choice. Let's say, for example, you have a close race where you have a very liberal democrat and a 'moderate'(sic) conservative.

The Liberal Democrat stands against everything you believe, such as they are anti-gun rights, pro-abortion, anti-miltiary, etc.

The 'Moderate' Republican, on the other hand, is pro-life, pro-2nd amendment, pro-military..... but.... they supported the McCain/Kennedy immigration(sic) bill.

Would you vote to continue the progress on the issues you believe in spite of the candidates view on the one issue (illegal immigration) or would you risk giving up all the other issues 'to teach a lesson' on that one issue?

This is the quandary many of us face, and why I choose to vote strategically in the general election and focus only on teaching a lesson in the primaries and through my pocketbook in who I fund.

I can almost agree with that in that also, our Senate has become a quasi-house of Lords. I think we can accomplish this without, however, ridding our side of a power base in a house of government. Frankly, let's just have term limits.

I'm just taking the approach that the only thing politicians understand is "Your FIRED!" Don't re-elect them if they aren't doing what they said they'd do. Hell, there's a Republican in the White House and a GOP controlled Senate and House - are you happy with the way they've used that advantage?

It doesn't mean your a Bush hater or not a team player ( whatever the hell that means ) But rather you realize that the people we all worked hard to put in place are not representing many of us. No, I'm not happy about it. In 2001, when we got a republican president and republican-controlled U.S. Senate and House, many conservatives probably thought that they would pass conservative budgets, with very small spending increases, but that hasn't happened yet. In 2004, the departments of HUD, Education, and HHS received at least 28% more than they received in 2001. Bush's budgets have increased spending more than Clinton's budgets.

No true conservative could hope for a Dem win in November.

Bush's tax cut would be revoked.

His No Child Left Behind would be gutted (except for the money to the schools) guaranteeing ignorance from public school graduates.

The Medicare plan would drop private company's participation and be totally government run and funded, just as Gore wanted.

There would be no chance for additional conservative judges to be appointed for any level, much less the Supreme Court.

Repeal of Roe v. Wade would be impossible.

Illegal immigrants would be given amnesty and citizenship, guaranteeing Dem control of many southwestern states. No wall, no nothing!

America would turn tail and run from Iraq, making OBL very happy, and letting the rest of the Muslim world know we are the wimps OBL says we are.

Iran will get a nuclear weapon.

Israel would be abandoned in favor of Palestine.

No new refineries, no nuclear plants, no drilling for oil or gas in the continental US would be allowed.

Labor unions will be running homeland security.

We can watch while every moonbat charge of the last six years is investigated by Congress....tying up the Administration and the military testifying.

Anyone on this forum pushing for a Dem win in November to punish Republicans is a fool.

If you are so one issue that you would throw away fifteen years of conservative gains........

As I see it the problem with Iran exists solely because of their current dictator...er president.

Remove him from the population and the problem will be much easier to solve.

I think we need to be willing to vote for candidates who are less-than-ideal, because the results of the recent elections, and the results of polling since 2004, indicate that conservatives don't make up the majority of the electorate. If the GOP can't appeal to the critical middle, they're dead, and no conservative third-party is ever going to become dominant in this country.

I agree with you that the poll is poorly written.

My House representative is neither a Rat nor conservative, but a solid RINO.

So I am "working for conservatism" by contributing to the Club for Growth and the NRA, and by ignoring my local House race.

I voted for Bush in 92. I've refined my political views in the intervening 14 years, and now believe in principals over party.
