Palestinian Genes Show Arab, Jewish, European and Black-African Ancestry
Global Politician ^ | December 16, 2004 | David Storobin, Esq.

A study by the University of Chicago found that Arab populations, including Palestinians, Jordanians, Syrians, Iraqis, and Bedouin, have at least some sub-Saharan African genes. Non-Arabs from the region, including Turks, Kurds, Armenians, Azeris, Georgians, and Jews did not have any African roots. [1] A possible explanation is the proximity of the Arabian peninsula to the Black African nations. This conclusion is favored by the fact that Yemenite Arabs have 35% Black African genes in their mtDNA (which passes through the mother), while others have less. Yemen, of course, is very close geographically to several Black African nations. Other Arabs, especially those far away from the Arabian peninsula, have as little as 10% African blood in their mtDNA. As such, it is possible that the African gene was merely diluted by the introduction of non-Arab (and non-African) genes to the pool when Arabs began to conquer other Middle East people after the rise of Islam. The "real" Arabs -- those who have Arab ancestors stretching beyond the last 1,400 years – are actually 35% Black in their mtDNA. These Arabs are from the Arabian peninsula.[2]

Other populations that are now called ‘Arabs’ became Arabized through intermarriage and adoption of the Arabic language and culture. These people are partially Arab and partially descendants of the nations that lived in their region prior to the rise of the Muslim faith. Just as their "Arab gene" was diluted by mixing with local genes, so too the 35% of the mtDNA that is Black African was diluted and reduced to around 10%.

This was like being a devoted Nazi trying to join the SS but when they researched your family roots they found some "non-Aryan" blood.

My Palestinian friend (Christian) tells me that most Muslims have some Jewish blood, just as most Americans have American Indian blood somewhere in their backgrounds.

OK, quibble withh the "most," but you know what she means: It's common.

Just please tell me that Yasser had extraterrestrial genes...no human or animal deserves to be related to that blood.

Most Americans have American Indian blood in them from somewhere? I think you just tossed off the word "Most".
The actual percentage, although I'd have to check the books, is almost certainly much, much lower than "Most", which implies a majority. Kind of a silly statement.
Although I'd be proud to have Indian blood, my mother-in-law (85) won't even talk about it (I'm doing her genealogy on behalf of my kids); generational differences are interesting, I'll tell ya.

I read somewhere that the Boers (South Africa) have about 10% "non-European" genetic material. Its not hard to figure out where that material came from, given where they have lived for the past 400 years. Just goes to show that nuts raving racial purity, be they Hitler or Calipso Luoie, are nuts.

I'd bet that most Americans descended from folks who were here before say 1820 have some Indian blood. On the frontier, be it upstate New York, Kentucky, or the Transvaal, European women were scarce. (And yes I'm, part Cherokee)

almost certainly much, much lower than "Most",

LOL. I KNEW someone would quibble. For families that settled the Wild West, I think "most" might be reasonably accurate, however.

As for older Americans being touchy about Indian blood, ain't it a shame? Makes it so hard to trace ancestry. My grandfather looked like the fellow on the flip side of the buffalo nickel, but no Indian heritage was reported. The family even lived near the Cherokee Nation, but no one owns up. Now family geneaologists are tearing their hair. We can trace one line back to 1650, but this other trail seems to end at 1875.

Good luck with your search ! Or should I say, "Happy Trails?"

No kidding. That part of the Middle East, especially where modern Israel is today, has been for millennia one of the most intensely immigrated (this use doesn't sound right) areas on the face of the planet. It's no wonder that the so-called Palestinians should be a genetic flotsam and jetsam.
