McCain says he regrets picking Palin as running mate

Sen. John McCain

(R-Ariz.) said he regrets choosing former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin (R) to be his running mate during the 2008 presidential campaign.

The New York Times reported on Saturday that McCain, while still defending Palin’s performance, said in his upcoming book “The Restless Wave” that he wishes he had instead selected former Sen. Joseph Lieberman (I-Conn.)

His advisers reportedly had warned against choosing Lieberman, who was once a Democrat, stating that Lieberman’s support of abortion rights could divide Republicans.

“It was sound advice that I could reason for myself,” he writes. “But my gut told me to ignore it and I wish I had.”

In a new HBO documentary, McCain goes on to say that not choosing Lieberman was “another mistake" that he made in his political career.

Lieberman told The Times that he didn’t know McCain felt that way.

“It touched me greatly,” he said of the film.

The Times reported that Lieberman recently visited McCain, 81, at his ranch in Arizona where the senator is recovering from his brain cancer treatment and surgery for an infection.

Recently released excerpts from McCain’s upcoming memoir indicate that he doesn’t know how much time he has left to live while battling the glioblastoma he was diagnosed with last year.

Although the memoir isn’t entirely political, McCain still takes swings at Trump.

McCain writes that the president seems to care more about “the appearance of toughness” than American values, chiding Trump's coziness with Russian President Vladimir Putin, in particular.

“The Restless Wave: Good Times, Just Causes, Great Fights, and other Appreciations.” will be released May 22.

Once the NVA realized that he was the son of an admiral, his treatment changed - it was before that point when McDud received the bad treatment. After ... all comfy on the top floor of the HH with his comfort woman until he was released.

I voted for Governor Palin, regretting that she had that wobbly loser on the ticket with her.

Me too. She was the ONLY reason I voted for that traitor awhile. And I have since deeply regretted that vote.

What a disgusting individual. He can’t even die with dignity. Without Sarah Palin, he wouldn’t have carried a single state. He was as bad a candidate as SWMNBN.

Too bad the 25th Amendment doesn’t apply to Congress.

Sarah was the only reason we voted...

Exactly! McLame only got on the ballet with Democrat cross-over votes in open primary states.

Plus McCain's "rescue photo" is a so... weird... retouched or fake?... where is that long fat arm and reversed hand coming from? It's not McCain's hand...

And why would there be a photographer waiting there to take this photo?

All very strange.

Most strange is how much the Reagans hated him, too.

Not nearly as much as she regrets accepting - she thought she was getting on a team that wanted to win and they shut down their only chance by reining her in.....without Sarah, the “Maverick” wouldn’t have gotten but 60% of the votes he did get.

The funeral for John McCain will not be of serious note or importance.

Oh, but it will be pushed as such! There’s already been a “special issue” magazine on the stands for months called “John McCain - American Hero,” and the left will cry buckets of crocodile tears because “the maverick” is the only one with enough guts to stand up to the evil orange man who wants to seal our borders.

And then, of course, all those scumbag Senators will stand up there, bemoaning the loss of their “beloved colleague.” Ugh. It’s going to be sickening.

Strong endorsement of Palin...you got that right. Still don’t know why he was nominated but could be selective forgetfulness. I don’t remember his campaign, but I remember LOTS with Sarah. What an inspiration! She was tougher than all the rest of the candidates and actually would have made a great Vice President with Trump even though I believe Pence is God’s whisper in Trumps ears.

Independent voters are crucial in politics.

Just because he has an "I" behind his name doesn't make him an Independent. He's always been a democrat and endorsed Hillary Clinton in 2016........

McCain would have lost worse if Loserman had been his running mate.....

We shouldn’t have nominated McLame. If it wasn’t for him we wouldn’t have had 8 years of the Obama Holocaust.

Loser McCain. More like Hillary than he might realize

After losing the primary to Bush in 2000 and being sour grapes for two terms, in 2008 it was "his turn."

That’s odd as I had read that McPain was capture hiding in a rice paddy. But I could be wrong. However, that photo could be of any one.

Before McCain passes, Trump supporters should send him a big thank-you card for nominating Palin, mentioning that Palin’s example is likely what inspired Trump to run, after seeing how effective her brash and plain-spoke style was in motivating the base.

In fact, we should send him a MAGA hat and name him as an Honorary General in our Army of Deplorables for making that nomination, and let him know that we will be forever grateful for being essential in getting our movement started with that one, courageous nomination.

RIP John (if you can after that).
