Vice President Joe Biden and the woman who ran against him last year did some long-distance sparing today. Biden, at a rally for New York congressional Democratic contender Bill Owens, took a verbal shot at former Alaska governor Sarah Palin, who's a supporter of Conservative Party nominee Doug Hoffman in Tuesday's crazy special election for New York's 23rd district (where Republican nominee Dede Scozzafava has dropped out and endorsed the Democrat). Using energy as an issue with which to score some rhetorical points, Biden said that "the fact of the matter is, Sarah Palin thinks the answer to energy is...

Rush Limbaugh appeared on "Fox News Sunday" today, and said Sarah Palin is ready to be president. He also predicted a revolt against Democrats in 2010, and a loss for President Obama in 2012: (VIDEO AT LINK)

In a Daily Beast op-ed the former Bush speech writer says Sarah Palin is still the class of the 2012 field, and she's not going away anytime soon. Why? Because the rank and file are fed up with the establishment Republicans who have almost drained all of the "Grand" out of the Grand Old party, and they see Palin as the cure for the disease they carry. A few excerpts: The latest news in Washington is that the conservative Minnesota governor (and potential 2012 presidential contender) has caught the eye of the city’s top Republican gurus. You remember them. The...

At the 2009 Value Voters Summit this past week, Mitt Romney directly addressed President Barack Obama’s incomprehensible and fatally flawed decision, unprecedented in the American political tradition, to tax future generations. In an administration quickly marked for its wistful look to the past, Obama’s decision brought to mind 15th-century Russia. Is that why they call them czars? "Putting such a spirit-crushing, back-breaking debt burden on our children is unworthy of our national character," Romney said. "That is why I believe that this spending and borrowing is not just economically irresponsible, it is morally wrong." It poisoned this most auspicious and...

Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin this week will begin accepting and rejecting the more than 1,070 invitations she has received for paid speeches and political appearances since she resigned from office, aides said. Twenty speakers’ bureaus made offers to represent her. She has signed with Washington Speakers Bureau, which represents everyone from George and Laura Bush to Bob Woodward and Katie Couric [ snort ] to Alan Greenspan, Colin Powell and Rudy Giuliani. More than 950 requests for speeches have poured in for Palin, and over 120 candidates for office have asked her to appear, including folks running for Senate,...

"A new analysis by Public Policy Polling (D) finds that Sarah Palin is especially popular with a key Republican demographic: The Birthers. Among those respondents in PPP's latest national poll who either said that President Obama was not born in the United States or were undecided, Palin had a 66% favorability rating." Eric Kleefeld/TPM The Republican Party bears a strong resemblance to the bar scene at Star Wars. Attend any GOP gathering and you will find a motley crew: Birthers, tea baggers, Palin sycophants, town hall meeting trolls, gun nuts, born-again clowns, and pro-life zealots. When pundits and political experts...

Now that would be a great story, except for one thing...its not true. Still I'm sure plenty of people will read the headline and not the copy. For those who don't know, Mcleod is the “Ethics Nazi” of Alaska who politically stalked Palin while she was Governor, and filed numerous ethics complaints against her and brought on a lawsuit. Now I can't say for fact, and have no real basis to suspect that she probably has assisted in perpetuating rumors about the ex-Governor, but certainly by her actions she has encouraged it and I'm sure if asked she would not...

The farewell address for Sarah Palin was for the most part what one would have expected if you have been following this story. However one statement directed toward the media caught my attention: "Democracy depends on you," Palin said, "That's why our troops are willing to die for you. So how about in honor of the American soldier you quit making things up?" I have heard and read a lot of "chatter" over the meaning of the words. Is she referring to reports on the military or CIA, the reporting in Afghanistan or Iraq? Maybe she is talking about the...

You’ve got to hand it to them. The Democrats and radical lefties know how to hit below the belt. For the umpteenth time in a long string of dismissed complaints, a leaked investigative memo details that soon to be ex-Governor Palin may have traded on her influence for personal gain. The report is so laughably shoddy and lacking in common sense. It lacks two important things: One, any mention of what Palin may have traded (in kind) for contributions to the defense fund. Instead, the report states that a normal individual wouldn't be able to raise money like that and...

If voters get to choose between Republican Mitt Romney and Democratic President Barack Obama in the 2012 election, a new national poll suggests the race would be too close to call. Both Romney and Obama had the support of 45 percent of respondents to a new Rasmussen Reports poll released Monday. The public opinion polling company asked 1,000 likely voters nationwide on July 18-19 whether they would vote for Romney or Obama if the 2012 presidential election were held today. The telephone survey has a margin of error of plus or minus 3 percent. Utah's top pollster, Dan Jones, said...

There is a very interesting opinion piece today from the political website politico.com. The piece is written by Gary Bauer and Daniel Allott. Bauer is a former Reagan administration official, the former head of the Family Research Council, and a former candidate for President in 2000. Allott works with Bauer at American Values and has worked as a former community support provider for people with disabilities. There is probably no more polarizing figure in American politics today than Sarah Palin. A recent poll of Republicans showed that she has a 72% favorability rating within her own party - higher than...

Palin Vs. Kerry (And MoveOn.org) By INVESTOR'S BUSINESS DAILY | Posted Wednesday, July 15, 2009 4:20 PM The political death of Sarah Palin has been greatly exaggerated. In a devastating op-ed in the Washington Post, Alaska's governor exposes the cap-and-tax fraud that has nothing to do with earth's temperature and everything to do with government control of the economy. She also exposes the stealth socialism ambitions of the Democratic left and once again points out the availability of abundant "shovel-ready" resources under America's soil, off America's shores and even in America's rocks. Judging from the reaction from Sen. Kerry and...

There is no shortage of threats to our economy. America's unemployment rate recently hit its highest mark in more than 25 years and is expected to continue climbing. Worries are widespread that even when the economy finally rebounds, the recovery won't bring jobs. Our nation's debt is unsustainable, and the federal government's reach into the private sector is unprecedented.

Gun rights enthusiasts, including rock 'n roller turned avid hunter Ted Nugent, are expected to call in to a talk radio show in Fairbanks, where Alaska Gov. Murrow says the governor has been a consistent supporter of Second Amendment rights and the bills reflect that.

SARAH PALIN, UNBOUND by Laurie Morrow and Ed Morrow Striving mightily to stay at the head of the torch- and pitchfork-bearing mob pursuing the Monster Palin, Maureen Dowd, in her latest column, has added a new charge to the standard assaults on the Alaska Governor. On top of being too folksy, too pretty, too dull-witted, and too conservative, Palin is crazy. Miss Dowd knows this is true because she read it in Vanity Fair. Using a fashion magazine notorious for its anti-Republican bent as her medical authority, Dowd cattily describes Palin as “one nutty puppy.” She diagnoses the Governor as...

Sarah Palin's decision to resign as governor of Alaska was greeted with doubts, criticism and downright derision -- not just from Democrats or the media or bloggers, but from Republicans. Critical responses to her decision came from many Republican insiders -- not just people who have an axe to grind such as Mike Huckabee and Lisa Murkowski, but others such as Karl Rove. That followed criticism of Palin just before her announcement from Charles Krauthammer and Jonah Goldberg. When talking off the record, Republican insiders are even harsher toward Palin, as Marc Ambinder notes: With a few exceptions, almost every...

Alaska Governor Sarah Palin made her own declaration of independence yesterday by announcing that she's resigning as governor of Alaska. It was another gutsy and smart move on her part that has confounded the experts and has many writing her political obituary. I believe it's just wishful thinking on their part and these folks have no clue what just hit them. Since Sen. John McCain chose her to run as his vice-president she, her family, and her staff have been through the wringer as opponents have turned over every rock in hopes of taking her down. Every time she sneezed...

Any politician willing to treat their job as a temporary one is a politician worth looking at. Like most everyone else, I sat back and scratched my head in consternation at the announcement that Sarah Palin was resigning as governor of Alaska. Its either a bold or stupid move, I thought. I placed it on the slow cook burner in my brain and let it soak in. At first glance, you say “Well thats a mistake! She shot herself in the foot!” Then I asked myself “What happens when you decide you dont want to run for re election?” Are...

Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin will attend Monday night's Republican congressional fundraising dinner, according to GOP sources. Not only will she be there, Palin's husband, "First Dude" Todd Palin, will sit with National Republican Senatorial Committee Chairman John Cornyn, R-Texas, and his wife at Cornyn's table, one of the sources said. Sarah Palin, the 2008 vice presidential nominee, will sit at the head table. She will be recognized but will not have a formal speaking role, the sources said. Palin's decision to attend brings to an end an embarrassing public back-and-forth between Republican congressional campaign committee leaders and Palin, whose attendance...

Republican fundraiser Fred Malek invited Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin and South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford, both potential GOP presidential candidates in 2012, to break bread together at his McLean, Va., home Friday night. Sanford’s office confirmed he’ll be there. Palin is staying back in Alaska due to serious ice-jam flooding and instead sending her husband, Todd. He’ll also take her place at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, Palin’s office said Thursday. . . . . . The idea of the dinner at his Crest Lane home is to help party donors shopping for a 2012 candidate. . . . ....

Being in politics, especially when being in discussion to be a front runner for nomination to run for President you will be in the spotlight constantly, but the brutal assaults on Governor Sarah Palin are not only outrageous, but most take the complete situation out of context. One of the liberals chief attacks is to paint some rift between social Conservatives and Governor Palin in the Republican party, with cheap attacks and faulty liberal interpretation on a nightly basis. Take Sarah Palin's recent speech to a pro-life group in Indiana, Governor Palin made a great speech that made the entire...

Recent earthquake activity in Alaska provided “CBS Early Show” co-hosts with a ready-made metaphor for a segment on the personal lives of some of the those surrounding Alaska Governor Sarah Palin. But their quake turned out to be barely a ripple. Hosts Harry Smith and Maggie Rodriguez couldn’t contain their smirks as they introduced the piece. “There's been an earthquake rumbling outside Anchorage, but there is some other rumblings, as well, near Wasilla,” Smith snickered. “Oh, indeed,” Rodriguez chimed in with her eyebrows raised. “Sarah Palin says that she is focused on one thing, governing Alaska. But it has been...

It's all about values... Bobby Jindal was chosen to deliver the Republican response to Obama's state of the union address, at this critical juncture in our nation's history. What does that mean? Two Things: 1) The Republican party is not as dumb as recent events have tricked some of us into thinking. That sounds condescending, I know, but let's not kid ourselves. The idea that Sarah Palin is qualified for anything over the depth of mayor of a medium sized town (which is basically what Alaska is, except with more anarchists), is a laughable one. Conservatives, although I know many...

“I beg to differ with the premise of this economic stimulus package that it, as a whole, stimulates the economy when you look at the programs that are entailed in this economic stimulus package, the programs that could end up costing a state so much more at the end of the day, those don’t necessarily stimulate the economy. Construction projects do, they bring jobs,” Palin said.

- Palin's national approval rating is now 49-40. That's up four points since the last poll in early November, and seems to contradict claims by some in the media that she'd fade away after the election. Among Republicans, her approval rating is a whopping 85-10, among independents a still healthy 46-41. - People overwhelmingly back Palin's criticism of her treatment by the MSM during the election campaign. On the question 'Do you think Sarah Palin has been treated fairly or unfairly by the press?', 58 percent said she was treated unfairly, 35 percent fairly. Among Republicans the score was 85-12,...

This weekend, John McCain was less than committal about supporting his running mate, Sarah Palin, should she seek the presidency in 2012. His words were interpreted as a slam against Palin, but it's nothing compared to the intra-party warfare some have launched against her. The trashing of Sarah Palin continues. Some of the shots have been downright ugly, such as the “Retarded Republican Babies for Sarah Palin” t-shirts. Equally notable, however, is the odd one-two punch of liberal journalists and moderate Republican leakers pounding Palin as a right-wing extremist and dummy. This tandem is responsible for some of the phony...

FReepers, Palin can lead a wave of Conservatives (GOP/2.0) into the Senate and House in 2010. Then she could ride the crest of a new movement into the White House in 2012. There will be plenty of socialist policies she will dissent with from the well of the Senate. Unless Republicans win 18 seats in the Senate in ‘10, they will stay in the minority and she will be free to play the vociferously loyal opposition. Therefore, she can be Minority Leader (to Hell with Seniority), begin her Presidential run (unabashedly so) and fillet the Dem policies every Sunday on...

Is it wrong to have a serious crush on the “First Dude” of Alaska and the future Second Gentleman of the United States? Because if crushing on Todd Palin is wrong, then man, we do not want to be right. We just want to listen to him talk about snowmachines and huskies and hockey for hours and hours and hours. When we met him in St. Louis the weekend of Palin’s announcement as VP, we couldn’t even talk, we just kind of giggled and stared and the only thought in our head was TODD. TODD. In Rochester today, Hillary spoke at her greatest length so far about Sarah Palin. "I think that a lot of people were excited to see the Republicans have a woman on their ticket. We had a woman vice presidential candidate in 1984; the Republicans have one this year. I think that is something to be excited about because it is a change. But that's not reason enough to vote for the McCain-Palin ticket," she said, according to a transcript from NY1 News. She also spoke of the way women are covered by the press. "I think you have to ask...

Pew Research Center and backup polls report that devout Roman Catholics have found a friend in Sarah Palin. What is not known to many is that Sarah Palin was as an infant baptized Roman Catholic. Then her parents turned to Pentecostalism, specifically the Assembly of God. Consequently, she was reared in evangelical Protestantism. What evangelicals and devout Catholics have in common is high regard for the Bible as divine revelation, believing Christ as Savior God, and the biblical moral base. They both also hold that each human being is accountable to the God of the Bible at the Judgment Seat...

<p>The Secret Service has selected a fitting enough code name for Gov. Sarah Palin: "Denali," same as the Alaska national park and preserve famed for its mountain peaks and wildlife.</p>
<p>Perhaps even more perfect is their code name for former oil slope worker Todd Palin -- "Driller." McCain and Palin have made drilling for oil a central part of their platform, so much so that "Drill, baby, drill!" is now a regular McCain-Palin rally chant.</p>

As if it couldn't support itself, Alaska also ranks No. 1, year after year, in money it sucks in from Washington. In 2005 (the most recent figures), according to the Tax Foundation, Alaska ranked 18th in federal taxes paid per resident ($5,434) but first in federal spending received per resident ($13,950). Its ratio of federal spending received to federal taxes paid ranks third among the 50 states, and in the absolute amount it receives from Washington over and above the amount it sends to Washington, Alaska ranks No. 1.

U.S. Representative Don Young's lead has widened in his still unfinished Republican primary race. Young is 239 votes ahead of Lieutenant Governor Sean Parnell after a count of absentee and questioned ballots ended early this (Saturday) morning. That's up from his 151-vote lead after the August 26 primary election. Overseas absentee ballots are still being accepted until next Wednesday when they will be counted. The division hopes to certify the election results by September 18. The defeated candidate or 10 qualified voters who believe an error has been made in the count have five days after certification to request a...

In 2006, when Sarah Palin and Sean Parnell ran for governor and lieutenant governor in Alaska, their campaign slogan was "New Energy for Alaska." I think there is a lot of truth to Sarah Palin's one-liner, during her acceptance speech at the GOP convention, to the effect that the presidency is not supposed to be a voyage of self-discovery. Before delivering that line, she ought to have warned everyone who's read Barack Obama's first book not to be mid-gulp of any beverage. But Obama's self-absorption and messianic status aside, I am not a fan of the McCain campaign's slogan, "Country...

I'm not one to get worked up over one poll but the result made me laugh so hard that I suppose it should be posted. Yes: Gallup says McCain 54, Obama 44 among likely voters. Even if they're right (and that seems a bit much), things sure can change. Oh, could they change. In the meantime, what's the left going to explain this away with...all the favorable media coverage the GOP ticket received since August 29th? Exit topic: what may be interesting to watch next week are battleground state polls that will inevitably be conducted in the wake of the...

Now that’s a bounce and a half … Obama, Biden, the LEFT and the MSM can complain all they want in their efforts to discredit Republican VP candidate Sarah Palin, the truth of the matter is that their efforts are failing and the favorable trend of the McCain/Biden ticket is on the up-swing. The LEFT does not have the right to tell McCain how he is to run their campaign … Obama and his crew only have the right and ability to run theirs in the manner they seem fit. In all honesty, the Obama campaign has been run terribly...

Roger Kimball muses today on an old WFB line: In the early 1960s, Bill Buckley famously observed that he would rather be governed by the first two thousand names in the Boston phone book than the two thousand faculty members of Harvard University. After my post last weekend re Governor Palin, a number of readers modified the thought along the following: I would rather be governed by the first 500* names in the Wasilla, AK phone book than by the editors of The Harvard Law Review. (*Presumably reduced from 2,000 because, what with all those five-kid households, there probably aren't...

Let me begin with a big caveat: the McCain campaign still faces big structural obstacles. The Republican base is shrunken like a week old tomato on a sunlit window sill. Obama still has a bit of a lead in most recent polls, and despite the fact that his lead has always been narrow, and despite the fact that, on paper, his lead ought to be a lot larger, it is still better to hold a lead than to lose it. Nor did McCain's choice of a much younger running mate make him any younger, and his age remains his most...

I think the PUMAs are the most objective political presence in this election cycle. Sure, they supported Hillary Clinton, but they were able to break out of party shackles and objectively see that Obama points their party in the wrong direction. One interesting observation is their surprise at how Democratic party leaders allowed Hillary to be maligned while the Republican party stood by Sarah Palin, even in her darkest hour. Some of those attacks against Hillary were harsh and frequently sexist. Such as Obama's comment about Hillary and "periodic" rage. (VIDEO AT LINK) Of course, one can argue that this...
