I do not get why Mods pull Threads

This morning a post was pulled regarding the discovery of Mastadon bones in maybe Indiana. The reason cited for pulling it was "chat".

I don't get it. The article was NOT a vanity; it was a published news article. Things like that are interesting and should be allowed.

For God sake, they let a letter jumble puzzle be posted every morning.

Does FR have a defined criteria as what is allowed and what is not.

This kind of thing has happened more than once.

Yes, it is Robinson's site and he can do what he wants, but to me this is really annoying.

Please enjoy our forum, but also please remember to use common courtesy when posting and refrain from posting personal attacks, profanity, vulgarity, threats, racial or religious bigotry, or any other materials offensive or otherwise inappropriate for a conservative family audience.

This is the part that bothers me.

Together with

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.

It doesn’t work for me with all the 1960s anti-homosexual slurs I’m seeing every day about Mayor Buttigieg. Every thread mentioning him has attacks and jokes and insults about his orientation.

It was fair in political argument to bring up what we knew about closeted candidates or leaders like Obama and Hillary. Just one more example of how devious and dishonest they were.

This man is open and honest about his homosexuality, he’s legally married, which deserves respect, and so far from what I’ve read about him, he’s a decent human being who is the kind of ideological, non-corrupt liberal we are supposed to want as an opponent, to argue with on the pure basis of ideas on how to govern this country.

The people here don’t give him a fair chance as an opponent but insist on filling threads about him with Beavis and Butthead jokes about sexuality. There is nothing pro-family or pro-Gd about insulting people. These insults are not about his hypocrisy or scandals, like the insults most politicians generate. The cheap homosexuality slurs are not at all in line with what I thought this place was, and if they are continually allowed, I don’t understand how this place can be a respectable house of discourse on constitutional ideas and freedom.

There are human mods. There are Artificial Intelligence mods. Each is not perfect, but for different reasons.

I’m on a mostly liberal site (Quora.com) where the activities of the mods make no sense at all. They delete conservatives more often than liberals, but mostly because the vocabulary is different.

I mentioned “dog whistle” in one post. That was deleted, but not before another BOT could send my email to their advertizers. I got bombarded with ads for pets, 90% for dogs but also for other pets. Of course, I am anti-Dog, literally and all my life.

For that statement to be true at all, one has to accept the redefinition of marriage as changing away from an institution designed to create a social and economic union by which a stable environment is created for conception and raising of children by the same two people who conceived. That’s not something invented by me or even religious people. That has been the definition and purpose for thousands of years.

I do not in any way accept redefining marriage into simply a license to f#@k.

No, his relationship is not honorable. It mocks both the purpose and the institution.

There are some words that are ‘triggering’ to the conservative moderators and result in a snowflake reaction.

Or it might be your post was from a source that would corrupt the tender sensibilities or religious views or even the ability of Freepers to read, think, and protect themselves from impure thoughts that don’t agree with ‘the approved Freeper dicta.”

Or you might post an article from a subversive source like Archeology Today. I had a post of some article about an archeological dig somewhere get pulled.

It used to be more prevalent. Perhaps you just got a newly appointed Mod who wanted to exercise some power.

Just get used to it and keep your head down. Never question a decision of the Mods. Sounds a little creepy doesn’t it.

Quite right! Once candidate DJT was on the campaign trail, they allowed only a small number of articles posted daily regarding DJT.

Now they have their new deterrent, the endless avalanche of pop-ups, causing problems for posters and for TPTB.

While it is true that human civ has been based on monogamous heterosexuality for thousands of years, and the kindness our religions and cultures have ingrained in us lately has helped minority groups achieve equal status in societies now, the toothpaste is out of the tube.

People who are different are now considered equal in value to anyone else, and homosexuality is now an accepted sexual orientation.

We can take human history for what it was, and accept changes that have happened whether we like them or not. I really don’t see the tube of toothpaste stuffing the escaped gel back in, no matter how much you might wish it would.

Freedoms for masses of humans, as the constitution attempted quite well to achieve, mean all freedoms, not just the ones you like.

No one is limiting freedom.
It is at best disingenuous and more likely dishonest to bring up an unrelated topic in a non-rebuttal while attempting to maintain a semblance of a dishonest point.

Marriage, whether monogamous or polygamous is still an institution designed to provide a stable social and economic unit in which to conceive and have those children raised by their two genetic parents.

It’s not about religion, it’s not about the worth of the person.

Its about responsible procreation and parenting. That is the historical definition and purpose.

And there is nothing honest, nothing ethical, and nothing moral about trying to change that definition and then disparaging people who don’t accept your changed definition as if they were maligning some one.

Marriage isn’t perfect, but it is by far the best way to provide love, nurture, and provision for children.

Anything between people that leaves conceiving and raising children out isn’t marriage.

Apples and oranges.

You choose which section of the Forum your post belongs in when you post the article. The posting prompts give you choices and if you have read the introductory pages to FR (click on "FreeRepublic" in bold on the very top left of the page to open those pages), you will see Jim Robinson's rules and guidelines. They will indicate that users should not post general interest "magazine" articles in the "News" sections. And no vanities or personal threads, cartoons, puzzles, etc either.

As to what you see when you open FR, that is determined by how you set your Preferences for your FR account.

If you set your FR preferences to "Everything", you will see every article from all sections in chronological order when you open FR, including news, chat, religion, blogs, etc. But it's possible to set your preferences so that you only see News/Activism, Front Page, Breaking News. Then when you open FR, you will not see the quotefall puzzle, the toons, the blogs, the prayer requests, etc.

To set your FR Preferences, go to the top of the Forum page and click on "Account." Scroll down to "My Preferences." From there you can choose what you want to see when you open FR.

You can customize several other features from the "Account" page also.

the preferences I can choose are...

How many posts per page,
and how to handle browser pages.

I would love to be able to not have
to see certain forums, but that page
doesn’t seem to address the issue.
Do I need new software?

Threads like these get posted at least two or three times a month. Possibly more, but it’s a common ordinary question. A couple of weeks ago I got sarcastic and snarky on such a thread. I basically threatened to make a FR donation if the moderators replied. Knowing full well that they never do. As you see here, there has been no response from the staff at FR.

But lo and behold, Jim Robinson did reply to my snark. And because he did so, I sent $50 to the FReepathon.
