Is it a good thing for lawyers to be totally running the country?
cowboyway | December 28, 2008 | cowboyway

Posted on 12/28/2008 7:43:38 AM PST by cowboyway

I started thinking about this glut of lawyers at the top of the federal government and realized that the next four years is going to be even worse that I originally thought.

President - lawyer
Vice President - lawyer
First Lady - lawyer
Sec State - lawyer
Attorney General - lawyer (of course)
Sec Interior - lawyer
Agriculture - lawyer
Homeland Security - lawyer
Trade Representative - lawyer
Senate Majority Leader - lawyer

Plus the other ~ 60 lawyers in the senate and the ~ 130 lawyers in the House.

And then there are all the lawyers that are on the staffs of these people.

This country is being lawyered to hell..................

I suspect it's a bad idea - I'll have to check with my attorney to be sure...

Of course it's a lousy idea, the whole notion that the Obama administration won't allow 'business as usual' to continue is laughable. The Obama administration is (business as usual)3.

During election season I'd switched my tagline from my usual delphic quotation from Slobodan Milosevic to "For real change, stop electing lawyers, Fighter Pilot/Hockey Mom '08".

Lawyers were never meant to be in the Executive and Legislative branches. They are officers of the court, part of the judicial branch. It is one of the biggest sources of problems we have.

NEVER vote for a lawyer!

Yep. That was the one fault of Duncan Hunter as well, even though he did escape the Ivy League Lawyering.

True. If you want to know what is wrong with America, pick up any Yellow Pages phone book and find the section listing "Doctors" (or in some books: "Physicians"). Find the beginning and end of the section and measure the results between your thumb and forefinger.

Now, do the same for "Lawyers". If you wish, you may use another finger to gauge the results. You'll probably want to. Then, look at the back cover and see what type of business is advertised there. Injured? Of course you are...

Lawyers are lucky. They have the LAW to guide their activities. The rest of us have to depend on common sense, fair play and a notion of right and wrong.

I don't think any lawyer should be permitted to hold any legislative office at any level of government. It's a conflict of interest. They write the laws in such a way as to cement their power and to help themselves fleece billions of dollars from the rest of us.

Regarding the executive offices under the Presidency, he should be allowed to appoint whomever he wants. I think it's a grave mistake to appoint so many lawyers, but so be it.

And with all these lawyers do we believe that the Supreme Court is going to defend and uphold the Constitution?

Why are judges so immune from the consequences of mistakes?

Why don’t they want cameras in the courtrooms more than they do?

Is the practice of “bar politics” that gave us a nominee like Harriet Myers good for the country?

Just asking.

“What happened to that Amendment to the Constitution that kept lawyers out of government?/ Lost??”

There was a state forming before the revolution called the State of Franklin near Georgia/Tennessee. A couple ancestors records show their birthplace as ‘the state of Franklin’. In their constitution no lawyer could be elected. They included preachers and teachers as well, IIRC.

Abso-friggin'-lutely.

When this mess collapses, I am going to make sure that the next Republic excludes lawyers from not only holding office, but from being citizens. They will, at best, have the rights of feral dogs and furniture. They have ruined America, and humanity.

Well, there is always an exception. :<)

If there was only one thing I could teach the public about voting it would be ‘never vote for a lawyer’. Their over representation in our government is one of our biggest problems.

Mind you, none of them practised very long, which I think is what ruins them.

And what is good in business may not be good for a country.

Under this same logic, you cede the ground to lefty nuts like Feminists.

All of these people ranging from incompetent and corrupt types to murderous dictators were all men. Therefor we should never elect men to powerful positions ever again.

See how crazy that is.

How about instead of just blanketly banning people because they are a lawyer, we just vote for people we believe are able to fulfill the duties of their office regardless of what legal profession they preform?

Radical idea I know.

Provide a list of lawyers currently serving in any office who are champions of individual freedom. It doesn't even need to be a long list. Hell, I'll settle for *three*.

My point is that there are a LOT of lawyers, many of them of the ambulance-chasing variety, and they are a pestilence on the body public. I know there are some honest attorneys out there. The law of averages alone makes that likely.

You probably have to have a bunch of lawyers running you businesses because so many lawyers in government have made so many damn laws that only a lawyer can run a business and be within the law.

I put computer monitoring systems in nuke plants and we sometimes joke around that the primary function of the power plant is to power our computer systems and anything that's left over can be sold to the general public.

I suspect that lawyers sincerely think that the purpose of business is to provide them with a lucrative vocation.
