Will Rick Perry Run a "Morning in America" Campaign?
MRC TV (Media Research Center TV) ^ | 8/12/2011 | Stephen Gutowski

As we've all heard over and over again the past week or so Rick Perry has announced his intention to announce when he will announce his presidential campaign. Thus it's fair to take any and all speeches he makes now until his official announcement as a glimpse of what his campaign will put forth. San Antonio's NBC affiliate gives us one of the first glimpses of what may be the style of Rick Perry's campaign.

Call me crazy but as short as that clip was it has all the trappings of Reagan's 1980 campaign. These are dark days but America is the greatest country on earth and it's "brightest hour is just around the corner". Take a hefty dose of condemnation for the failed policies which brought us to this dark place, combine it with immutable optimism about America and its people, stir, and apply it generously as needed.

Sure the famous "Morning in America" ad is actually from Reagan's 1984 re-elections campaign but the sentiment was there in his 1980 campaign as well. In fact just below the podium where Reagan gave his acceptance speech to the Republican National Convention were the words "Together ... A New Beginning". Reagan was essentially saying he could see a new morning in America dawning. It seems that is what Perry is saying now too.

the game plan of the ruling elites of democrats and republicans is

to block a genuine conservative such as palin, bachman, cain, etc with any of their rinos.

Of course it was, and the point of the ad was that Reagan's first four years brought us back from the Carter nightmare and it was "morning in America" again.

A 'morning in America' campaign would be a stupid first term campaign theme. It would imply that things have already turned around.

Palin’s supporters seem to be getting pretty obsessed with running down Rick Perry. Why are you afraid of Rick Perry? Isn’t Sarah Palin going to ride a massive wave of popularity into the White House anyway?

“to block a genuine conservative”

Ugh, I am so tired of people on FR blasting Gov. Perry and calling him a RINO, when there’s so many other Republicans, such as Mitt Romney, that are worthy of the title.

The RINO witch hunt has gotten way out of hand. When a hard-core, God-fearing, pro-life, pro-business conservative such as Gov. Rick Perry is called a RINO, there’s definitely something wrong here.

I’m not a Palin supporter but I am pretty tired of childish little cowards who think they can turn the truth about Perry into an attack on Palin supporters.

One good thing is that it exposes what the Perry supporters really think about anyone else.

RINOs are still bottom feeding, lying. manipulative scum, who will happily hand a race to democrats just so they can say “Told you so”.

There's a lot of truth to that.

Rick Perry’s an utter fraud.

He will plagarize Reagan stump-speeches verbatim then govern to the left of Clinton. Conservative? In a pig’s eye!

I fully expect Univision to give him all the air time they can. Maybe even a few appearances on those popular soap operas they run.

You mean like those RINO candidates Christine O’Donnell, Joe Miller and Sharon Angle? Just because somebody is a conservative doesn’t mean they’re going to win. For a conservative to win (especially high profile/national races) he/she has to have more than ideology.

Try this:

On FR RINO=Bush=Perry

Didn’t we already try a Bush Presidency? How did that work out?

“Just because somebody is a conservative doesn’t mean they’re going to win.”

EXACTLY, and they have to be on par with the current economic climate. Gov. Perry has the strongest jobs record out of all the other candidates. His state has created more jobs than all the other states combined.

This election will be about JOBS, not abortion, not gay marriage, not stem cell research or any of that. Yes, we want a candidate who shares conservative positions on those issues, but they’re not what the majority of people are the most worried about right now.

People are worried about their jobs, their homes and how they can support their families. Obama’s record on jobs is abysmal and people are looking for a candidate that has a strong record on jobs and can truly give them hope for a brighter America. Gov. Perry can do it!
