The Big Bang Is Hard Science. It Is Also a Creation Story.

In some ways, the history of science is the history of a philosophical resistance to mythical explanations of reality. In the ancient world, when we asked “Where did the world come from?” we were told creation myths. In the modern world, we are instead told a convincing scientific story: Big Bang theory, first proposed in 1927 by the Belgian Roman Catholic priest Georges Lemaître. It is based on observations that galaxies appear to be flying apart from one another, suggesting that the universe is expanding. We trace this movement back in space and time to nearly the original point of the explosion, the single original atom from which all the universe emerged 14 billion years ago.

While it is based on empirical measurement and quantitative reasoning, it is also a creation story, and therefore shares some of the traits of the stories that have come before. For one thing, it resonates with the ethos of the modern age—this is the era of big explosions, like those in White Sands and over Nagasaki. Also, like all creation stories, it explains in comprehensible language something which otherwise requires unobtainable categories of thought. After all, we cannot really know what the world was like before its creation. But we do see how things around us change, grow, are born, and die. And, like the ancients, we fashion these observations into the story of our creation.

this is what is wrong with people who dont actually read and believe the Bible.

As long as you make it poetry, you never know when to stop making it poetry

that means you have no idea when something is real or not

how long was a day in creation?
How long was a day when Jesus was in the tomb?
How long was a day when Joshua marched around Jericho?
Why are people obsessed with the days of creation but dont even blink to listen to how long a day was anywhere else in the Bible?

Eisegesis? Ken Ham gets to the heart of the debate about the six days of creation. If we read from what the biblical text says (exegesis), it allows only one interpretation-six 24-hour days of Creation. Any other interpretation is eisegesis (when people”read into” the Bible).

not at all

the big bang covers everything, including the formation of stars and planets and Earth

What day was the Earth Created?
According to the big bang, it took 4 billion years...depending on who you ask...

.
.
Gen 1:1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.
Gen 1:2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness [was] upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.
Gen 1:3 And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.
Gen 1:4 And God saw the light, that [it was] good: and God divided the light from the darkness.
Gen 1:5 And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.
Gen 1:6 And God said, Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters.
Gen 1:7 And God made the firmament, and divided the waters which [were] under the firmament from the waters which [were] above the firmament: and it was so.
Gen 1:8 And God called the firmament Heaven. And the evening and the morning were the second day.
Gen 1:9 And God said, Let the waters under the heaven be gathered together unto one place, and let the dry [land] appear: and it was so.
Gen 1:10 And God called the dry [land] Earth; and the gathering together of the waters called he Seas: and God saw that [it was] good.
Gen 1:11 And God said, Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb yielding seed, [and] the fruit tree yielding fruit after his kind, whose seed [is] in itself, upon the earth: and it was so.
Gen 1:12 And the earth brought forth grass, [and] herb yielding seed after his kind, and the tree yielding fruit, whose seed [was] in itself, after his kind: and God saw that [it was] good.
Gen 1:13 And the evening and the morning were the third day.
Gen 1:14 And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years:
Gen 1:15 And let them be for lights in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth: and it was so.
Gen 1:16 And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: [he made] the stars also.
Gen 1:17 And God set them in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth,
Gen 1:18 And to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness: and God saw that [it was] good.
Gen 1:19 And the evening and the morning were the fourth day.
Gen 1:20 And God said, Let the waters bring forth abundantly the moving creature that hath life, and fowl [that] may fly above the earth in the open firmament of heaven.
Gen 1:21 And God created great whales, and every living creature that moveth, which the waters brought forth abundantly, after their kind, and every winged fowl after his kind: and God saw that [it was] good.
Gen 1:22 And God blessed them, saying, Be fruitful, and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let fowl multiply in the earth.
Gen 1:23 And the evening and the morning were the fifth day.
Gen 1:24 And God said, Let the earth bring forth the living creature after his kind, cattle, and creeping thing, and beast of the earth after his kind: and it was so.
Gen 1:25 And God made the beast of the earth after his kind, and cattle after their kind, and every thing that creepeth upon the earth after his kind: and God saw that [it was] good.
Gen 1:26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.
Gen 1:27 So God created man in his [own] image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.
Gen 1:28 And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.
Gen 1:29 And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which [is] upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which [is] the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat.
Gen 1:30 And to every beast of the earth, and to every fowl of the air, and to every thing that creepeth upon the earth, wherein [there is] life, [I have given] every green herb for meat: and it was so.
Gen 1:31 And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, [it was] very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day.

The Earth came before light. The big bang came before the sun and before the earth.

So, the big bang cannot fit the bible.

And, once again, when were stars created?
When the heavens were?
Day one?
Not according to the Bible, The Earth came before the stars and the sun, yet the big bang came before any of them
.
Gen 1:19 And the evening and the morning were the fourth day.
.
.
Everything about the godless evolutionary theory is against God and His word, and people who claim to be Christians or Bible believers of any kind, are clearly calling God a liar when they accept any version of evolution/the big bang.

Whether the earth and universe is 5 billion years old or 10,000 years old that's GOD's business. I see evidence that can place in in the billions of years. I can see evidence that continents changed locations were covered by water then mountains then water again etc.

Everything must have a Creator. Time as we know it was given to man for mans use not GOD's as such for time to His eternal being is not measurable by any means we can comprehend. I believe GOD created the heavens and the earth and has all authority as to it's boundaries, laws, and it's time to end and be reborn anew as we are promised.

The Bible speaks of seven days six of which GOD created all and on the seventh rested from that work. The seventh day in my belief was when all was completed and the universe has been in the seventh day for billions of years.

We can not comprehend GOD's time. Like everything else we accept in faith GOD by His Word that He created all for His reason and purpose. Time as we know it will be no more soon enough. That is what people are basing theories on is time as they know it. Time as GOD gave man to measure his work and sleep and the seasons as well. Thank GOD I don't have to understand it all nor can I.

That is factually incorrect.

The Big Bang, according to the theory, was a point in space and an instant in time at which spacetime and matter/energy originated. The theory says nothing at all about what existed before then. In fact, the question is meaningless under the terms of the theory.

It also says nothing at all about why the BB occurred. Which means we are perfectly free to assume, in full compliance with the BBT, that it happened because God caused it to happen.

This is in full compliance with standard Christian theology by which God stands outside space and time, in Eternity.

As for Creation and its Days, here's the way I see it. YM obviously varies.

Breaking the first few verses into paragraphs may help.

In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness [was] upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.

And God said, Let there be light: and there was light. And God saw the light, that [it was] good: and God divided the light from the darkness. And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.

It then goes on, of course, through the remaining Days.

As I see it, this means God created the universe in the Beginning and let it run, possibly according to the Big Bang Theory. The earth eventually developed, but it was shrouded in darkness. God then turned his mind to making the formless and void earth a fit place for his Children.

He Spoke for the first recorded time. He caused Light to be on the Earth, then divided it into night and day.

He then goes on thru the remaining days, each Day starting with Him Speaking something into existence.

This organization of the discussion does not appear until verse 3, so to my mind this means verses 1 and 2 occurred before Day One.

We can also get into a long discussion about whether each Day refers to a literal 24 hour period, but I'll let that one just lay there.

You are, of course, entirely welcome to believe otherwise. I just find it a little annoying when someone announces that their personal interpretation of a passage not written as a scientific treatise is the only possible one. Especially when the concepts needed to write such a scientific treatise were well beyond those of the (human) author.

No, it doesn’t. “1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.”

The heavens are created first.

The bible says that the heavens were created.

science agrees that the heavens were created.

The atheists have tried to coopt the creation.

Actually, those are just the latest scientific estimates for the ages of the universe and the earth.

Those ages have changed tremendously over the years as we learned more about the creation.

Currently we believe we have identified only 4% of what our universe is composed of. The remainder being two unknown factors called dark matter (24%) and dark energy (72%).

We have a lot more to learn.

The Big Bang theory covers none of those subjects.

It just covers the initial creation of the heavens.

Again you err

the big bang covered all evolution

in fact, that is why the big bang helped promote all evolution, it provided a means to explain long time periods to explain what clearly does not happen before our eyes

in other words, it used an excuse of not being able to see it to prove it happened

It is a fable, not science, and only the foolish believe in evolution and the big bang

Hard science? But they can’t tell us what time was one second before the big bang? So really, they’re still just grabbing at straws.

Yeah. If they don't all the answers to everything then it's all bullshit. But we're not anti-science.
