CT scans and the use of infra-red technology on the naturally mummified remains of a woman who lived in in a Christian community in the Sudan 1,300 years ago have revealed a tattoo on her inner thigh. The tattoo is a symbol of the Archangel Michael, assembled from ancient Greek letters. “She is the first evidence of a tattoo from the period. This is a very rare find,” Daniel Antoin, curator of physical anthropology at the British Museum, told The Telegraph. The woman’s remains are part of a special exhibition of eight mummies and what technology has revealed about their lives.

A lot of people don’t realize that Edgar Allen Poe’s poem “To Helen” wasn’t about Helen of Troy, but rather about a woman he had dated, I think her last name was Back.

You’d kind of think the letters would relate to St. Peter, being they’re near heaven’s gate.

It’s a Greek symbol for the Archangel Michael, must have been a risky thing to wear in the open in the 7th c. :’)

“To Helen” wasn’t about Helen of Troy, but rather about a woman he had dated,...

The first reference I came across stated that Helen was the mother of his boyhood chum.

While Poe was always a bit strange, having a crush on an older woman as a teenager isn't all that atypical, especially given Poe's chaotic upbringing.

a tattoo on her inner thigh

Speaking of which, Bonnie Parker had her husband's first name, Roy, tattooed on her thigh.

I wonder what Clyde thought of it.?
