Sexual economics: Women more sexually promiscuous as "price of sex" declines
ABC Action News ^ | 10/6/11 | Kristal Roberts

There was a time when having sex with a woman meant a wedding ring, a court ship or at the very least, dinner. But social psychologists say those days are quickly coming to an end as women become more promiscuous, Yahoo Shine reports.

-snip-

Other things that are said to have contributed to these changes include gender equality, birth control and internet porn.

“The big difference is that young people are much more promiscuous. Whereas members of my generation might have married with a couple dozen partners between them, college kids regularly report approaching 3 digit numbers.”

Good Lord! I have dated 7 women in my life and I married two of them. Times have really changed. I just thought that people were bragging about their conquests rather than remaining discreet.

Sorry, it is true.
I lived the 60’s, my grandmother who was a flapper, thought the whole issue on free love was funny.
She said the 60’s were child’s play compared to the 20’s.
Sexual promiscuity has always been around, now everyone talks about and exaggerates it.
There are may studies that demonstrate that people are not nearly as promiscuous as they pretend/claim to be.

Marriage is an *institution* to which you must be committed...sort of like an insane asylum.

“BS. The only difference between now and before is people talk about sex more now.”

Bingo.

The more I listen to the stories of my parents and grandparents and of ancestors of others, the more I realize they were just as promiscuous as today’s “youts.”

They never told me about it. I learned about it from other family members after they had died. They were having a great time as far back as I can follow my ancestry.

Had an ex get really pissed off when I told her a few things.

One way or the other, the man ALWAYS pays for sex in some way. It may be cash (for a hooker), dinner (for a sport f#$% date), time for a relationship and/ or emotional commitments, and little labors of love.

She thought that was completely cynical and wrong to even say. That's just realism in action.

The second part of the conversation really killed her when I said that a woman should calculate her "bill rate".

Essentially it boils down to this. Get a spreadsheet. Take ALL of the $$ that he pays to support you (bills, etc), all the $$ he spends dating you, and then assign dollar values to the other things (like hours he spends with you [use his salary / 2000], little things that make you all warm and happy (coffee on the nightstand, roses, cards, the little things that make love work [you as a woman decide the equivalent dollar value]) .... do that for a total of a month and come up with a number. Now subract all the hard dollars and time equivalents you spend on HIM.

THEN take the number of times you have sex with him and use that as the divisor. So ($$$ spent[him] - $$$ spent [you])/# of times = a woman's bill rate.

Most women in marginal relationships would be shocked at how low their number compares to a professional.

Yes it sounds cynical, yes it is a little cheapening to even consider, but wow does it put the sexual revolution into perspective.

Women's lib was the worst thing that ever happened to women's relationships ever.

It doesn’t sound very realistic to me. Women like sex, and women need sex in much the same way as men. More importantly, women invest time, commitment and as you said it, labors of love on relationships as well as men. Speaking as a man who’s been married for 20 years, if you both aren’t investing in the marriage, it won’t work.

The problem with theories like yours, and there are plenty from Lykiss to Hefner, is that they’re predicated on the idea that sex is a favor that women do for men.

Listening to the bulk of women under 35 (and I meet a lot of them lately) ... that's how most of them think.

Makes me glad I’m 66. The women in my generation are still women, not objects d’art.
