Is it time to dump Free Republic?
FR | January 28, 2009 | Me

Repeatedly, FR moderators have moved TOP postings related to current NEWS and calls for conservative ACTIVISM from the News and Activism section, over to "blogger's and personal" which has no traffic by comparison.

I fully understand Jim Robinson's original purpose in launching FR, to provide a community in which conservatives could get TRUTH not available in the MSM, information not available in the MSM and access to fellow conservatives so that we could work together towards a conservative agenda.

Yet time after time, FR moderators bury this information over in "blogger's and personal" and kill story after story, vital to the conservative movement.

Why?

Without a change in this policy, I am through posting to FR. The moderators on FR have less sense than the moderators on DU, where they at least work to bury the opposition, instead of themselves.

What gives? Anyone understand this self-defeating policy?

I haven’t seen that pattern. It could simply be that we are more inclined to post from Conservative sources, thus, naturally more will be moved to bloggers by numbers alone.

Here is the recent ‘bloggers’ list:

Here is the recent ‘news’ list:

Both seem to have a decent mix of MSM and non-traditional.

You even think that maybe this is your own little Rorschach test? You are very concerned about censorship of Conservative news, so you see it happening everywhere, even if it doesn’t exist? Our minds are programmed to create patterns. Remember the last new car you bought, as soon as you drove off the lot suddenly you saw the exact same model everywhere?

Maybe they posted it in the blogger section first.

OK, I'll bite, what is/was the "news" in an editorial?

And yes, I do realize the implications.

I don't think you realize the implications of YOUR stance.

The moderators of this site are not paid one thin dime.
Do you REALLY expect them to fully read each post and determine its newsworthyness?

If it came from a blog, it will normally go in bloggers and personal, not news and activism.

If you deem it "newsworthy" maybe you should help the mods out and contact them to let them know.

It ain't hard, a little ping to the admin mod, and it ain't rocket science, if you can post it surely you can let the mod know why you think it's newsworthy.

Yeah, I messed up a post...I was posting a reply and posted the entire article instead of excerpting it... I know better. The mod deleted it... I don’t blame him/her. I was embarrassed-rookie mistake. The mods must get really sick of this. I merely put it back up done the right way.

Good luck. I’m not doing so hot, either, but I can still afford beer . . . and on the bright side I don’t have a house to lose or car to be repossessed.

As has been posted here on your thread several times it doesn’t matter under which topic the article is posted if the reader has clicked the EVERYTHING...it is mine and a lot of others SOP...you are being taunted as a child and reacting like a child. And the answer to your title is..Oh hell NO!!!

Stuff published on web and chat sites, and blog sites and individual web sites gets allocated to that category.

This site has been active for over a decade. Systems and conventions have developed and evolved based on broad usage habits of the membership.

Keep in mind that we started mainly as a forum exposing the corruption of the Clinton era and a national press that was spinning to support him. During that tracking it became apparent that certain journalists needed careful tracking and that certain media changed breaking news accounts to fit a political agenda. It therefore became very important to track the history of how national stories were written — all to track and stop the Clinon corruption.

To keep that channel clear, opinion comments, vanity postings and general chat had to be relegated to seperate sub-forums as there were solid contributing members that relentlessly tracked the media.

In recent years people have seen this site as a general activism bulletin board — something that wasn’t its original base in its growth. I know because eduacational and general conservative discussion is what always interested me the most as well. I learned however that it wasn’t my site, it was Jim’s and it would hold the character he desired. People that can’t deal with its character are welcomed to create or advance other websites. Its a healthy thing for the spread of conservative activism.

Just because it doesn’t seem to function as you might prefer doesn’t mean it is not functioning as other’s are comfortable with.

Within moments, it had hundreds of hits and was fast climbing with people beginning to comment. Moments later, the traffic died instantly, and then I noticed it had been removed from News and Activism and dumped into Bloggers and Personal where all traffic has since died.

I know it seems to have died down, but just to give you a perspective and possible explanation from another FReeper, most of us read articles by displaying all recent articles, no matter if it is a news article, blogger, backroom, whatever (the link posted above with the * in it)... Let's say, for example, you post it in news and it receives 200 hits, it is then moved to bloggers and only receives 10 more hits. It may be that there are only 210 FReepers on line, they all glanced at it, but didn't reply. After those folks looked at it, they didn't go back, thus the drop off in hits.. it has nothing to do with it being moved, there just weren't any more people on line looking at articles.. How many articles in which you aren't interested in, do you keep visiting over and over? Just another view for you.

Thanks for the great comments...

I have no blog to promote, I do not represent Williams or CFP. I’m just a conservative who is fast running out of places to post conservative news and events.

The column, like most I have posted here over the years, was being read VERY well, until it was moved to Bloggers where it immediately died, like all other pieces I have seen moved from News to Bloggers.

If all conservative writers are just bloggers because the MSM won’t print their column, and nobody reads bloggers, what’s the point of posting?

Clearly, rather than answering this question, many Freepers needed an opportunity to scorch a fellow conservative today.

Glad to provide the much needed entertainment, but I have much better things to do with my time.

Regards...
