There are many good handguns out in the market.
Many lawful gun owners have different perspectives on which is best. So it can be a challenge not only for the newbie but the seasoned carriers as well.
Even with handguns it does come in different sizes, such as the full standard that LEOs carry to a mini snub nose revolver.
Here are some top handgun choices to consider for compact size.
- Glock 26 Gen 3 (9MM)
This particular Glock is for concealed carry and it may be the most popular among CCW. Its small frame, short barrel makes it easy to conceal and the high magazine capacity is heaven sent with 10+1 rounds of 9mm.
One thing that stands out when compared to other compact guns is that while shooting the pistol wont jump out of your hand. This id due to the full width size, this allows a shooter to have a good hold of it. - Springfield XDs (.45 ACP)
This Sprinfield XDs is a .45ACP and considered one of the best on the market. The downside is that its a single stack which only holds 5 rounds of .45ACP.
The size is perfect for the concealed and the quality of the gun and operation is perfect. - SCCY CPX-II
The SCCY may be one of the most affordable carry gun on the market with an excellent customer service and lifetime warranty.
Its slim design, lightweight, easy to use and 9mm pistol holds 10+1 rounds of 9mm has more than enough stopping power for you. - Taurus PT111
The Taurus PT111 is not well known but its great for CCW. The compact frame and 13-round capacity makes it ideal to tuck under your shirt.
Something that stands out with this PT111 is the double-action/single-action mode. See the rest of the best concealed carry handguns here.

Oh, forgot to add that I have a .380 Ruger LCP above my sun visor. It’s velcro’d in its holster onto the visor.

Hmmm...no J-frame revolvers, no LCP. Guess I’’m stupid, but those are my go-to guns for CCW. S&W 686+ or Beretta 92 when size isn’t an issue.
If one worries about an “active shooter, need to hit at 25 yards” scenario, then a bigger gun is extremely helpful. But if you expect a close range, maybe already fighting scenario, then a 357 J-frame is darn near unbeatable as a “Belly Gun”!
Hiking tends to have me reaching for the LCP with a 7-round magazine to give it more grip. Extremely concealable, light...but 7 rounds of 380 isn’t anything like walking around unarmed.
The guns in the article aren’t particularly concealable. Not in summer, in Arizona. And none of them strike me as a match for a J-frame 357 in the Belly Gun category.

The article did qualify with “...compact...”
The more the merrier!
Try a full size anything in a Safariland GLS inside the waistband holster with two spare mags on the off side. Balances nicely, disappears under any cover garment, and gives a higher round count. Keep the pocket gun for an off side backup.
oh, practice is a great thing.

I like the XDm compact series. It's almost like 2 guns in one. Smaller mag for conceal, and larger mag for high capacity.
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
The XDm 9mm Compact is 13 round +1 with smaller mag
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
The added Xtended mag gives you 19 rounds +1, but it adds an inch to the grip.

The XDm .45 Compact is 9 round +1 with smaller mag

The added Xtension mag gives you 13 rounds +1, but it adds an inch to the grip.

“Glad to see they included at least one revolver - Ruger LCR”
Thats my current choice. I have very nice pinned/recessed S&W’s but I don’t want to give a cop or some shit eating city smelter a piece of my collection. As to a semi with “one in the pipe” deal me out. I’d rather err on the side of safety. The odds of a throwdown where you don’t have time to rack a slide or flick off a safety are extremely long.

I carry (sometimes) a Glock 23, 40 cal. It fits nicely in my hand. Concealed, not open even though I’m in Texas. I like concealed for the tactical advantage.

I do not see how people conceal carry a fuller size gun.
That means it is working just fine. ;-)

Add a Pierce grip extension to your magazines to allow the pinky finger to get a better hold. It's not a huge extension...very subtle but makes a huge difference! Well worth the money. Fits a multiple of pistols including Keltec and Kahr. Shop around for best price.

I like the reliability factor of revolvers. I don’t really see that a double action revolver is really any safer to carry than a semi-auto with one in the pipe - keep your finger away from the trigger and you should be OK in either instance. Also, use a holster that completely covers the trigger and trigger guard.

I have a full selection of Kybex holsters by L.A.G. Tactical here in Reno. They custom fit them as needed. That said, the Glock 42 is easy to conceal inside the waistband or outside, depending on what I wear. The Sig Sauer P320SC subcompact, a little less so. I have Sig Sauer P320F full size and, yep, it pulls the belt down and is very hard to conceal in any configuration. That is my question to everyone that conceal carries full size guns, how do you accomplish it?
I also have several undershirts that have pockets for guns, which work well when I am more formally dressed. Slow to access but better than being unarmed.
I have a shoulder holster, but haven't wore it out yet.
Ankle-holsters? Haven't figured them out yet.

I also live in the People’s Republic of Maryland. I cannot legally carry either, so I don’t when I am not at home, but I want to be prepared for the future. Having seen the far left’s temper tantrum when they lost in 2016, I am very concerned about our future. I wish for peace. “If you wish for peace . . .”

I know the Ruger LCII falls for short of a full-size for range shooting, but what do you think of its shooting (accuracy and comfort) for its size? Do you just like it for being small, or does it have other virtues? Does yours have a laser, or do you wish it did?
